This popular spot offers fine golden sand and dazzling blue waters backed by a small selection of bars and restaurants, where you can dine on fresh Sicilian seafood as you look out over the ocean.

When you've had enough of topping up your tan for the day, why not drive the 16km to the historic city of Syracuse, known for its ancient ruins and the lovely island of Ortigia. In addition to the history, you'll uncover a spectacular selection of lively bars, traditional restaurants and plenty of shops to pick up a holiday memento or two.

An hour or so south, the charming Baroque towns of Noto, Modica and Ragusa make for fascinating day trips. In addition, we'd recommend stepping back in time on a visit to the former fishing village of Marzamemi on Sicily's southern tip.
