With the ancient streets of Catania right on your doorstep, and a great view over the port to the sea, this two-bedroom apartment is a brilliant base for exploring the island’s second-biggest city. Start your day with breakfast on the balcony, before heading out to discover Baroque architecture, bustling pavement cafes, and volcano views (moody Mount Etna looms large over the city). If six of you are staying, two will be sleeping on the sofa bed, so it might be a little cosy. And the nearby train line might make things noisy from time to time. On the plus side, that puts you walking distance from the station, so you can easily see more of Sicily’s sights.
