Oolong has several elements that keep it interesting and cosy, despite the simple design. We particularly liked the collection of antique teapots, an unexpected addition that brought a bit of character to proceedings. Unfortunately there was a storm when we visited, so we couldn’t see the garden in its best state, but it was still a cute area, and a bit of sun would do wonders. San Saba isn’t the most central area – it’s a bit of a trek to the Spanish Steps, for example – but there’s good transport in, and the neighbourhood itself has plenty going for it and few tourists.
Home truths: *Even though there's space for six people, there's only one bathroom so we reckon four is enough
*The mezzanine doesn't have a handrail, and is only reachable via a ladder
*When we visited, there was some cosmetic damage to the door of the second bedroom. It's being fixed up but something to know about in the meantime
