The quantity of blue on display in Neptune isn’t for the faint-hearted. In all seriousness, it’s this theme that actually elevates the place and makes it unique. It’s certainly small – the lack of a living room isn’t ideal, it’s true – but the decorations, largely inspired by the hosts travels, are all rather tasteful, and contribute to the individuality of the place. The location’s also worth mentioning – it’s not particularly central, but the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano is right there, as is the Egyptian obelisk, which is the largest in the world.
Home truths: *There's no living room – the only communal space is the kitchen
*Air conditioning is only available in the bedrooms
*If you're staying on May Day, be aware that the square is the centre of the festivities in the cities
