This once mid-19th-century manor house now functions as a peaceful escape for large groups after being lovingly restored. With some of the historic charm still intact, the chateau has some of the rustic features you'd identify in an older home, and though that style might not suit everyone, you can't deny there's character, comfort and space in spades. Given the sloped ceiling, the bedroom with the four single beds would be best suited to kids, whilst another double room with an adjacent kid's bed is perfect for little ones not brave enough to venture out on their own yet. The garden is picture-perfect for alfresco dining, especially after sourcing produce at the weekly market in Carmaux.
Home truths: *The bedrooms are found on the first and second floors. As there is no internal lift, it may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility. One bedroom's bathroom can only be accessed via a second bedroom, which might not feel too private. The bedroom with four single beds has sloping ceilings and may be best suited to kids.
*We suggest hiring a car for ease – there's free parking available here.
*The swimming pool isn't fenced. If you're bringing little ones, they'll need to be supervised.
*Though there's no air-conditioning, there are fans for warmer nights.
*If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a high chair for free. You'll need to request them in advance.
*The television only has local channels.
