June 2024
We very, very rarely leave a negative review, however, we wish we had read between the lines of reviews on this and the booking sites, and noted the dates (often 8-10 years ago with few recent reviews), before booking the Island Yurt in Beckford. We have stayed in yurts before and each time experienced a wonderfully relaxing break in a beautifully furnished yurt, clean, cosy and welcoming, set in idyllic countryside. There are four yurts in Beckford, erected over 10 years ago in 2014 and they have evidently never been dismantled or refreshed. The photos online appear idyllic, however, sadly do not reflect our experience. Fishing from the tired decking and landing a larger fish would have been extremely difficult given the old gas BBQ, overhead construction and hot tub in the way. The surrounding water was inaccessible, very overgrown and smelt stagnant. Several reviews reflect the reality as politely as possible and mirror the need for a deep clean and refurbishment, items that require attention or replacement, ageing woodwork and decking and old fake grass matting are your first impression, fly and grime-covered light bulb, rusty BBQ, ancient spider webs, vegetation overgrowth and the acrid stagnant smell that permeates the yurt and surrounding area. The owners appear friendly and offered to call someone out to fix the hob that wasn't working. The yurt had been cleaned inside and clean bedding, towels and robes are provided by a professional company but the whole place is underwhelming and tired. For a neutropenic cancer patient approaching more surgery the risk of infection was too great for my husband, so we didn't even unpack the car and sadly returned home. Extremely disappointing and no refund forthcoming on the basis that 'the owners couldn't smell anything'. This place could be so much better with some dedicated TLC and investment in the guests' holiday surroundings and experience.

The facilities at the yurt were great - hot tub, BBQ, fire pit and all over looking the lake.. Loved the projector and sauna too!

Second visit to different yurt just lovely.. May not suit everyone, pretty basic very in touch with nature(many varieties of spider) my partner fished but sadly didn’t catch the big carp he was after not for want of trying . Lucky with the weather even had to ask to turn the hot tub down

The solitude of the location, really complements the type of holiday getaway that my wife and I needed to unwind and enjoy our silver anniversary.. The Yurt was warm and well equipped, and the views over the lake were most welcome in the early morning light. Soaking in the hot tub at the lakeside watching the waterfowl was just sublime. There were however two minor issues that have to be addressed. 1. The bathroom / toilet window requires a frosted panel installing. 2. The shower tray overflows when in use, the water spilled out into the toilet area as the drainage was not adequate enough to cope with the deluge of water from the shower unit.

The property was as expected.. It is secluded, the setting is fantastic with a lake. 2 great pubs within walking distance serving fantastic food. Ideal for those who like wildlife, country air, and pergect for romance.

It was utterly brilliant! We loved every second, the setting is beautiful and the yurt itself is gorgeous, just what we wanted! Couldn’t fault a thing! And the ducks/geese/swans were super friendly and sociable!

Literally an english version on the Maldives.. So worth booking. Hottub and sauna was beautiful especially when its cold outside makes it so cosy. Looking out to the lake and the electric boat was so nice and feeding the ducks and swans and drinking red wine by the bon fire. So beautiful, so grateful for the owners who created this xx

This holiday is ideal if you want to stay somewhere different.. The lakeside position is great. Your only visitors are the ducks. It is so quiet and peaceful and you only see other people if you venture into the village or further afield. The addition of a boat to go out on the lake in is ideal. The area around the Yurt is left unspoilt - overgrown and natural which encourages wild life. Not for you if you are looking for 5 star accommodation and pristine surroundings but we loved every minute and will definitely be going back.

Absolutely stunning views from morning until night.. The entertainment on the lake from the geese, swans, herons and ducks was spectacular so no need to use the cinema screen that was available. Such an amazing private haven to unwind, relax and charge your batteries: just what the DR ordered. We relaxed in the sauna and hot tub most evenings just watching the wildlife on the lake.. we ate of the bbq each night and made great use of the fire pit, keeping us warm until the sun went down. Ideal location if you want to venture out. I would recommend a spring clean as there were quite a few cobwebs and spiders and freshen up as it looked a little dated, however that did not put us off as the beauty and tranquility is what we were looking for.

One of the best experiences we ever had.. The yurt was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed. The lake and wildlife was spectacular and the fishing was brilliant. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful and we hated leaving, and hope to return soon.

September 2018
This was our third stay - the peace and privacy at this property is unique, even though the place is beginning to look a bit jaded.. Stay away if you don't like spiders, cobwebs and have expectations of thorough cleanliness. However, there's nowhere like it (at an affordable price anyway), to detox from technology and the daily grind. Watching and feeding the waterfowl is always therapeutic, as is lounging in the hot tub. The rainfall shower may not look much, but gives you a truly refreshing shower. More coffee/tea mugs are needed - we had to keep washing by hand instead of using the dishwasher. There's a home cinema for DVDs, but the sound was a bit low at this time. Not for those who can't live without internet and/or TV , but phone signal is good. A fabulous place for getting away from it all without breaking the bank.

August 2018
We arrived at the Yurt for a 7 night visit but unfortunately we had to leave 2 nights short.. Upon arrival we were really happy with the setting absolutely beautiful surroundings however that’s as far as it goes. Upon reading past reviews we had high expectations of a romantic luxury break but we were pretty disappointed to find the yurt very dated, the outside area absolutely covered in cobwebs/dirt. The stargazing skylight was so scratched and dirty you couldn’t see out of it in the daylight. Water in the hot tub very murky as if it had never been cleaned out prior to arrival. I then went to use the bbq however only one side would light. Drinking glasses all chipped pretty much all crockery very dated. Nothing matches!! We were absolutely plagued by flys the entire time we were there. So generally a pretty disappointing time! Wildlife however on another league you could spend hours just watching all different species of birds and the fishing was great! We personally will not be returning in the future.
Ms Monahan
August 2018
We have found a 'hidden gem' here! Don't expect five star accommodation, the yurt is very comfortable and very well equipped, it could just do with little spring clean, although this definitely wouldn't stop us from returning again. But do expect the most beautiful and tranquil setting, with privacy needed when you want to get away from it all. Spending time relaxing in the hot tub everyday looking out onto the lake and nature perfect! Cooking in the evenings on the fire pit was so good! My partner and myself caught lots of perch and roach, plus to top it off we also caught three beautiful carp, 15lb, 21lb and 25lb all returned safely to the water. We didn't venture far from the yurt the whole week that we were there, there was really no need once you had your provisions, it was the most beautiful place to spend time together. We loved every minute and will definitely be returning in the near future.

We’ve enjoyed every minute of our holiday at Island Yurt, the booking and payment procedure through Sykes was quick and easy so stress free from start to finish, the Yurt was amazing, we didn’t want to come home!

June 2018
Very disappointed -looking forward to it all year.. Arrived and the setting was idyllic. All the outside area was very dirty things looked as though they hadn't been wiped down for months. the dirt in the furniture was ground in, this also went for the sofa inside the yurt. the BBQ was too dirty to use this put off any idea of using the the hot tub unsure if this would of been cleaned. To top it off we were visited in daylight by Rats running along the decking and just sitting by the door and window. They seemed to be coming from under the hot tub. With that we were out of there only spent one night under duress most expensive night we have spent anywhere had to book in a pub a few miles up the road.
Mr Dupree
May 2018
Almost like being on your own little island! Lots of wildlife - daily visits from geese and goslings, ducks and family of eight ducklings and three black swans. Herons in the tree opposite. Loved the hot tub and watching the comings and goings on the lake. We enjoyed BBQs in sun and rain! Every night we had a DVD on the projector. Very comfy bed. We're already saving for a return visit!

We went for a long weekend away for our 1 Year Wedding Anniversary.. The Yurt's location is beyond anything we could have hoped for, so peaceful and surrounded by nature. The hot-tub overlooking the lake was lovely. The only thing that let it down is the bathroom, all works perfectly, but could do with a freshen up!

March 2018
Completely isolated with nothing but the sound of birds. The yurt was really warm (temperatures outside were below freezing) and had all the amenities we could have hoped for and more. Everything in the yurt worked well and was good quality - loved all the little touches. It was so amazing to get away from the busyness and be in our own little paradise. Hosts were lovely and have a total respect for privacy - the whole place has clearly be designed for a complete escape. Views only of the private lake and only visitors we encountered were the birds/geese/swans. Hot tub was delightful, at a slight angle so you were looking down into the gorgeous lake and endless views of countryside. Lovely nearby villages and towns although we spent a lot of time at the yurt as it was so cosy. Projector was fab - links to a DVD player. Shower was lovely and the roaring fire was such a great touch. Recommend ear plugs if you are a light sleeper as the ducks can be loud at night and an eye mask if you are sensitive to light as the sky light in the roof doesn't have a blind. Cooking facilities were much better than we expected - we cooked at the yurt each evening. Lots of heating outside if you want to sit out in the evenings and a lovely platform you can climb for a good view. Cannot recommend highly enough - we will definitely be back!

This place is superb for getting away from it all and being totally surrounded by nature.. We did plan on going out for meals etc but the yurt is so nice we stayed in! The hot tub is brilliant as is the sauna - what more does anyone need? Overall, this was one of the best breaks we've had.

Cosy and romantic even though our stay was on the coldest weekend of the year so far, seating area/lounge is perfect to snuggle up on next to the fire while looking over the lake at local wild life. Plenty of places to visit outside of Beckford too, we went to Bourton on the water, Broadway tower and Burford which are all superb places. Hoping to definitely return in the future for another visit. Loved it.

Myself and my partner visited this yurt on the basis of wanting to get away from it all and to re-charge our batteries. We were both blown away by the yurt and the surrounding area (the pictures do not do this property justice) and its beauty. The home cinema, sauna, rowing boat and hot tub overlooking the lake made the holiday. I thoroughly recommend visiting the Beckford Inn whilst staying here, the service is exceptional and is located just up the road from the yurt itself (I would advise to book if wanting to eat here on the weekend). During our stay, we visited the likes of Broadway and did a cheeky bit of early Christmas shopping. It is hard not to fall in love with Broadway, it's beauty and it's enchanting selection of little shops and tea rooms. We also visited Sudeley Castle, another must for those wanting to explore and unravel some history. The views here are breathtaking as are the pretty gardens surrounding the castle. We both also really enjoyed feeding the ducks, swans and geese every morning over breakfast (something which us townies aren't quite used to) and spending the chilly evenings in front of the fire. Overall, I would highly recommend the yurt to anybody wanting some time out from reality and who are keen to explore. Thank you for a lovely stay, we had a cracking weekend and one we won't forget.

The Yurt would have been wonderful when first built. However, first impression was good but when downhill quickly. The Yurt was very grubby, windows dirty, cereal on floor, and the bathroom looked really grubby - the blind was not on the window (clear glass) so although a private setting still unsettling when in the shower or on the toilet. The bedding was thin and tired once again. Cobwebs adorned the dome. The was little storage (half a dozen hangers, in with the hoover!) no draws or cupboards so we lived out of the suitcase. On a positive the hot tub, fire pit were lovely. New towels and robes and ad lib logs. Setting lovely - enjoyed the atics of the ducks. Would love to have gone when it was clean and new, rather than tired and unkempt.

The Island Yurt really is a perfect escape from everything! The Yurt was amazingly well equipped; everything from the bathroom and kitchen to the sauna and hot tub was clean and working perfectly. The views out of the windows onto the lake were stunning and the local wildlife was very friendly. The setting and surroundings are ideal to unwind and take a break from the stress and rush of every day life. Although there are other Yurts on the site, the way they are positioned means that you cannot see or hear them so you really do feel secluded. The glass dome in the roof meant star gazing could be done from the comfort of the bed with the fire flickering in the background - this really sums up the overall experience of the Yurt. Considering that the water, gas etc. was included, this really was great vale for money. All of this meant that after a romantic weekend away, we both returned fully relaxed. I would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for a romantic or relaxing getaway.
