  • "Just come back from a lovely stay in the Cow shed."

    Everything we needed to make the stay feel like home from home was available. A nice welcome pack to help us get settled after our journey. Plenty of walks near by to keep us active and we took advantage of a nice pub literally at the end of the path. Would highly recommend staying here, we would certainly come back :)

The property

Surrounded by local reservoirs and spectacular Peak Park landscapes, the Cow Shed, with generous gated off-road parking, is an extraordinary ground-floor barn conversion. Nestled in the historic village of Holme, opposite a gastro pub serving excellent food, the Cow Shed sleeps two and can be hired alongside The Hayloft (our ref: 1013614) and The Shearer's Hut (our ref. 1148316) allowing luxury accommodation for up to 6 people. The surrounding area is popular with walkers, hikers, cyclists and nature enthusiasts, making this an ideal retreat for those wanting to explore this beautiful part of Yorkshire and the Dark Peak.

Located just outside of Holmfirth and the infamous Picturedrome music venue, the Cow Shed is also an ideal location for exploring National Trust treasures such as Chatsworth House, Quarry Bank Mill and Lyme Park. The property has a small garden with picnic bench and chimenea overlooking the local reservoir and surrounding hillside - ideal for morning coffee, a picnic lunch or evening drinks.

The property has a stunning Yorkshire stone flagged floor and boasts underfloor heating throughout, keeping you cool in the summer and welcoming you with a cosy warmth during the colder months. The stylish kitchen/diner boasts views across the National Park,along with granite worktops and a range of quality integrated appliances. Relax in the sitting room on one of the two leather sofas,choosing a good film to watch on the Smart TV as the warmth from the wood burning stove heats up the space and adds to the cosy ambiance.

The generously sized king-size double bedroom is served by anen-suite shower room with walk-in shower.

The comfort height toilet is a welcome addition for anyone with mobility issues and a shower stool is available on request. Holme Village is surrounded by hiking tracks and trails which are perfect for spotting a wide range of local wildlife.

Set amongst the reservoirs of Ramsden, Riding Wood, Bilberry and Digley there is a wealth of long and short walks right on the doorstep.

Using the car you can easily access the Hope Valley via the Woodhead Pass for walks that include Winnats Pass, Mam Tor and the Great Ridge.

Other must see attractions such as the Blue John Mines and the Yorkshire Sculpture park are easily accessible and brilliant days out.

The cities of Leeds,Sheffield and Manchester are nearby and can be reached by local bus and train services. Two great pubs, serving fabulous food, are within walking distance of the Cow Shed (one directly across the road).

The nearby market town of Holmfirth, which can be reached easily on local bus, offers a wider selection of amenities such as pubs with on-site breweries, artisan bakers, great cafes and restaurants plus attractions such as the Picturedrome, Ashley Jackson's Gallery, the Holmfirth Vineyard and of course Sids Cafe (made famous by the series Last of the Summer Wine).

Annual festivals such as the September food and drink festival, the May folk festival, the June Arts festival, the July Motor sport festival and regular music and film festivals ensure that there is something for everyone. The property may suit those who have mobility issues as there are just three steps throughout the property and there is wheelchair access directly from the driveway. This beautiful, rural village rests at the top of the Holme Valley on the boundary of the Peak District National Park. On the outskirts of the market town of Holmfirth it is in easy reach of the cities of Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester. Sitting amid the local reservoirs of Digley, Bilberry, Ramsden and Riding Wood, the village is popular with walkers, cyclists and wildlife lovers alike with tracks and trails on the immediate doorstep. This area offers walks to suit all ages and abilities, including Winnats Pass, Mam Tor and the Great Ridge, and attractions such as the Blue John Mines, offering something for every kind of adventurer. The village has a thriving local community and at its heart is the Fleece Inn - a fabulous traditional pub serving great local beers and delicious, locally sourced, home-cooked food. Attached to the pub is a village shop which sells all sorts of goodies and is famous for its big breakfast sandwiches. The market towns of Holmfirth, Slaithwaite and Marsden are all close by and offer a diverse and exciting range of shops, entertainment and artisan foods. There are many, many local festivals including those for food and drink, Arts, Motor Sports, Music and Film as well as Folk Festivals and the amazing Moon rakers festival. The village is served with an hourly bus service with easy access to trains with stations in nearby Greenfield, Slaithwaite, Honley and Huddersfield.
