We stayed in June for a 40th Birthday as a family. It was lovely, clean, tidy & the kitchen was very well equipped. The movie room was a bonus. Andrea and Casey were very responsive and accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Great locations, lovely spacious rooms. We loved the welcome hamper and Andrea was a great host. We would have preferred an ensuite in the main bedroom instead of a walk in closet, but it certainly didn't spoil our weekend.

Awful property and owners. Don’t believe the reviews on Sykes cottage website.
Countless issues with the property, owners are neglectful and unhelpful. Fridge is broken, hot water keeps running out. Downstairs basement/ bathroom reeks of urine. Basement full of spiders and attic windows are filled with red ants that came onto the beds all weekend. Cinema room has no sound, and the house was full of dust. Upon pointing out these issues to Andrea, she then accused us of damaging the property after we left which was a complete lie. Also accusing us of making too much noise when it was just a girls weekend and none of us even drink alcohol.
She also accused us of not leaving the property clean, when we’d cleaned all weekend and the house was more clean when we left. We had to hoover the spiders, cobwebs and dust all weekend. Not happy at all about being accused of something we’ve not done.
awful scare tactics from the owners to try to scare us into not taking the complaint further, rather than try to address the issues & take responsibility.
Neither Andre or Casey were available all weekend when needed, phones kept going to voicemail or getting back to use hours later. So unprofessional and unhelpful

This place was an absolute disgrace my mum booked it for the family to have Christmas together but she sadly passed away in November but wanted us all still to go. My dad suffers from dementia so we brought him to stay from his care home and he fell downstairs due to the way the carpet was laid around the staircase. The driveway was thick with leaves and my brother tripped and fell down a grate as he couldn’t see due to the leaves. The house was damp, the room in the basement had a broken window and rained in leaving guests clothing wet through. The internet didn’t work, there were no instructions for the cooker or coffee machine , the door handle came off as my nephew opened the door to walk up the stairs and he fell backwards. Sink didn’t work in the downstairs toilet it was generally dirty and in complete disrepair. The curtains were ripped, towel rail was hanging off the wall the house was meant to be dressed for Christmas and there was a little treat and nothing else. My mum paid £4,500 for a week and we all left early because it was so disgusting. We contacted Sykes the letting agent in January and they said it’s nothing to do with them and said the owners would deal with it through their public liability insurance. We still haven’t heard anything therefore I though it was about time I left a review as I don’t believe they are going to do anything at this late stage ***do not book you’ll be very disappointed ***

After a very sad time after a family bereavement a Christmas get together was what we all needed, although we weren’t ready to celebrate but even explaining to Sykes about what had happened they wouldn’t let us cancel and get the money back so we decided to go ahead.
The house looked lovely on the website but as we all know appearances can be deceiving and they certainly were, on arrival there were lots of dead leaves on the drive which was quite slippery and they were all around the front entrance obviously never been swept up for a few months. The house was supposed to be decorated for Christmas but all there was a small tree and two Christmas stockings hung on the fireplace and a small wreath on the front door that was the total sum of Christmas cheer.
The lounge area is quite small for the amount of people the
house is supposed to cater for and the furniture very shabby one of chairs had a large tear in the arm and was covered with a throw perhaps they thought we wouldn’t notice.
The curtains in the large room we were staying in were all ripped, there was damp around the window and plug socket in the large bedroom downstairs. The door handle was hanging off on the door down to the tv room and nearly caused my nephew to fall back down the stairs, the downstairs toilet was dirty no hand soap provided. The room in the basement had a broken window and allowed the rain to come in leaving the room damp and clothes wet. The house in general was quite unclean, the internet was not working properly, a towel rail was hanging off the wall and at the top of the stairs there is a small step which is quite invisible due to the colour of the carpet and caused my brother to have a fall it should be marked in some way so people are aware.
Considering the cost for the week it was a very bad experience and we all left early. Sykes were contacted in early January and they of course were not interested and passed it on to the owners with photographic evidence but surprisingly we haven’t heard anything back from them and considering it has been three months that should now be enough time to at least reply and acknowledge the fact that we were sold something that was not up to standard but they have had their money so most probably don’t care and to be honest giving one star is one too many
Definitely would not recommend booking this house or even using Sykes again as they wouldn’t or couldn’t help.
