This medieval house is one of the oldest in Stratford-upon-Avon, but the way the host has decorated it marries the new interiors perfectly with the original structure. The slanted walls, wooden panels, and beautiful tiles wouldn’t seem out of place in a Lewis Carroll novel, which for a house with as much history as this, feels pretty apt. It doesn't surprise us that the unique home was chosen as a filming spot for the BBC One show Shakespeare & Hathaway.
We can't decide on a favourite feature – torn between the beam-ceilinged bedrooms, the boutique-style bathrooms, the wall painting from the 1600s, and the location in the very middle of this historic town. The high street, with its Shakespeare museums and old-timely pubs, is just a five-minute walk away. There’s still plenty else for you to discover yourself, as in a house like this there's no shortage of nooks and crannies.
Home truths: *The age and character of the house are part of its charm, but it does mean that there are some low ceilings, small doorways, and uneven floors
*In addition to the large private garden, there's a historic courtyard shared with three other homes in the medieval hall
*As the home is very close to the centre of town, you get a bit of noise, and there's a police station just behind it
*There is free private parking for one car on the drive and a free on-street parking permit for a second car
*Your host asks that you please respect the neighbours and keep noise to a minimum after 11pm
*Candles are not permitted in this home due to its tinder frame
