The house was very well presented with nice bedding and towels.. The kitchen had plenty of cooking utensils/pans etc and had more than enough crockery for the 8 of us.
The property is a large 4 bedroom with plenty of space! Walks from the house were beautiful, in the knowledge we can come home to a warm open fire!

Was such a lovely cottage in a really good location.. Only a 10 minute drive from the Roaches and loads of local pubs really close by. The only thing I didn’t realise when booking was that there was no WiFi but there are tv’s, speakers, cards and loads of board games to keep everyone entertained.

It's in a beautiful setting, the views surrounding the property were excellent and we had a very enjoyable stay.. Beds are comfy, everywhere was clean and the place was well equipped. We were travelling with a newborn and toddler and it was great having access to a cot, high chair and some toys. Would definitely recommend to others and hope that we can return in the future.

We had a lovely time.. The cottage was slightly tired in places (pen on a cupboard, cracks in the wall) but it was so nice overall these things were barely noticeable. The Sykes experience was very good and I would use their website again. We noticed that the info for our cottage needed updating & I wonder if Sykes prompt owners well enough to do up dates? Thanks

Gun End Cottage is charming and a wonderful place to stay in this beautiful area of the Peak District.. It was wonderful having breakfast in the conservatory with a view of sheep grazing in the field at the back of the property. We stayed at Gun End Cottage in the lead up to our son's wedding at Heaton House Farm. It was the perfect place for relaxation and calm. We would highly recommend a stay here. We enjoyed coffee and lunch at the nearby Three Horseshoes, Blackshaw Moor and dinner at the Rose and Crown, Allgreave.

Great customer service from the owners as they decorated the cottage for Christmas and bought candles when there was a power failure in the area due to the extreme weather conditions! The location was amazing, the house was incredibly warm with everything you could possibly need at your disposal. Great value for money for a big family Christmas. The only down side was the matresses were a little too soft for our liking!

We had such a lovely time in Gun End Cottage, the house was so well equipped, we could ask for no more. The views were beautiful, the area was peaceful and we thoroughly enjoyed our family short break. Attractions around the area were brilliant. It was such a fantastic base to explore a wonderful part of the world. Thanks so much for the opportunity of experiencing this beautiful house. Hope to visit again.

April 2015
We have just returned from a great weekend away with our family at this cottage. It is in a very peaceful area with lambs outside in the fields, which our grand-children loved to watch from the sun lounge. The house is really spacious and we loved all sitting round the large kitchen table having our meals. The cottage is exceptionally well equipped with everything you could need and more. The bedrooms were large, beds and pillows very comfortable. Parking for two cars was fine but three would be very tight.
We spent Saturday at Alton Towers and on the Sunday drove into Stoke to visit Waterworld, an indoor swimming complex with lots of slides and flumes.
Would definitely recommended to family and friends.

We used the cottage as it promised to be ideal for four couples celebrating twin brothers' 65th birthday. It was all we hoped it would be. Warm, roomy, full of character. The kitchen was spacious and we lingered long in it. The conservatory was perfect for storing food and drink and logs. The fire was a treat in early winter. Lovely walks around nearby reservoirs. Leek easy to get to you. The cottage was not easy to find even with sat nav but we loved the isolation. The ship inn was a joy discovered late with exceptional food and ale though we were so comfortable in the cottage we ate in most nights.

The house was perfect for our party of 8, including 3 children, there was nothing that we could honestly say that we needed that wasn't there. The owners have been very thoughtful to peoples' needs. The house itself is very comfortable, warm and beautifully done out. It's situated on a very quite lane, and a great location to explore. We truly had a brilliant time there, and would highly recommend. The owners are very easy to talk to, and are very helpful. Top marks from us!

January 2015
This cottage is lovely, with many original features, in a quiet rural location perfect for hiking.
The house is very well equipped in the kitchen, and providing for small children. And we had a fabulous New Year's Eve stay there.
Only minor points we had were that the living room was smaller than expected, if the kids had been a bi bigger I could imagine this being a bit more of a problem in the winter months if you can't get outside.
No wifi - with no 3G coverage in the district it seems, wifi would have been useful for planning our days.

The house was warm and comfortable. The location of the cottage was excellent - both in terms of the immediate environment - very quiet with beautiful walks right on the doorstep, and in relation to Peak District attractions - lovely walking country and pleasant market towns. The whole family agreed that we would like to return here for a holiday next year or the year after!

Gun End Cottage is a lovely comfortable house set in pretty countryside. Spacious enough for 8 people plus toddler.
The only slight drawback we found was the distance to the downstairs bathroom from the ground floor bedroom but only because my husband is disabled and needs assistance when walking. It wouldn't really be a problem for somebody with mild mobility problems.
However we managed and still enjoyed our week there very much.

We had a wonderful family holiday at Gun End Cottage, plenty of lovely walks near to a number of National Trust properties and the wonderful views from the conservatory were second to none.
The cottage had every thing one required for eight of us, comfortable beds, a lovely sitting room where we were able to enjoy a log fire when the evening chilled although the central heating was more than adequate.
We are certainly going to put it on the list for a return stay. Thanks ladies for the careful renovation it was really appreciated.

We stayed here as a family group and found we had everything we needed. It was a little bit difficult to find - 2 of the 3 groups of us got lost on the way there. The parking for 3 cars was a bit of a squeeze but we managed. It's a lovely house with an interesting history and it's fun to see the 'Homes under the Hammer' video. There is some lovely countryside nearby and we enjoyed a walk to Lud's Church and The Roaches.

The house provided excellent accommodation for 3 branches of the same family. The beds were very comfortable. It was really interesting to see the Homes under the Hammer DVD. The location was very peaceful and the field at the back with the sheep was wonderful! The information pack was useful and interesting.

April 2013
This is a beautiful house in idyllic surroundings, presented to a very high standard. It was a delight to be able to sit in the lean-to conservatory and watch the lambs in the field no more than a few feet away. It was quite surreal to sit in the lounge and watch an episode of 'Homes under the Hammer' filmed in the same room!
A perfect location for exploring the Peak District and destinations such as Buxton, Bakewell and the Heights of Abraham. An added bonus was the discovery of the Wincle Brewery in a Farmyard just over a mile along the lane! The Ship Inn at Wincle is also highly recommended, especially for its food.

We travelled with our two children and their Grandad and Auntie. We chose this cottage, partly because of it's location and also as we had seen it on the 'Homes Under the Hammer' programme and liked what we saw. We were not disappointed. Located in an idylic setting, the cottage is lovingly and beautifully decorated and a joy to stay in. It has a lovely garden which our children enjoyed playing in (there are a selection of outdoor toys in the shed) as well as the use of a playground and football field in the community centre directly opposite. We had a very useful welcome pack waiting for us from the owners and the neighbours were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was ideally situated to gain access to all that is on offer in the Peak District and surrounding area. Alton Towers, Buxton, Bakewell, Trentham Monkey Forest and Manifold Valley Cycle Track to name but a few. We were busy everyday and it was great to come back to some peace and quiet at the cottage. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing this wonderful house with us!!

A comfortable house in a wonderfully peaceful location with sheep grazing right outside. It was very interesting watching the DVD about the property as it featured in Homes Under the Hammer - it really made the house feel like a home when you learned the history. There were plenty of great pubs to chose from for meals out and great scenery everywhere.

July 2012
The cottage is in a beautiful, unspoilt rural area and we loved the view from the garden and being able to watch the sheep in the field. We had a lovely Sunday afternoon tea in the garden with our family to celebrate our golden wedding. Lots of information in the cottage regarding local pubs and places to eat and visit. An excellent base from which to explore the countryside and towns of Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. When it poured with rain (which it did quite a lot!), we turned on the heating and watched the television and were perfectly happy.

We took advantage of the extra long weekend and stayed at Gun End Cottage for Jubilee week. With 3 double bedrooms and 1 twin it was perfect for our family - 6 adults, a 2-year old and a 12-week old. It's charmingly old-fashioned with leaded windows and feature fireplaces, but has all the mod cons such as power showers, washer, dryer, TV and DVD.
It's literally in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by sheep and a handful of other cottages. You'll find the nearest shops in Leek, about 5 miles away, and the nearest pub about a mile and a half down the road in Wincle.
We'd recommend Gun End to anyone looking for a chilled out base to explore the peaks.

We can't speak highly enough of this cottage. Wonderful location and the owners had gone out of their way to provide essentials for our arrival, which was very welcome. A lovely pub 'The Ship Inn' about a mile away served super food. Everything about Gun End Cottage was superb. Would thoroughly recommend, hope to return again!

We took our three children (ages 4-6) for a two week family holiday. Blessed by good weather, which helped. They (and we) had a fantastic time and they never stop talking about the things they did there - both the location itself and the surrounding area of the Peaks. Although on the edges of the Peaks, the house is very close to the Roaches area which has to rank as some of the most outstanding countryside in the UK, IMO. The house was well equipped, though the DVD player didn't work properly which seems to have been noted by previous guests and not rectified. We also had a problem with the heating, which took the owners a few days to sort out, though they did make every effort to resolve it. Beautiful quiet situation. We tried to book it for the following year but left it too late and it was booked out! :-(

We enjoyed the tranquility of the location and being able to walk from the house. The Ship Inn is within easy walking distance and offers excellent food. This was our second visit to the house and I wondered if the high standard would be the same the second time around, and it was. Thank you to the owners once again.
