We had no issues with the heating and boiler as mentioned in previous reviews.Comfy and well equipped. Perfectly situated to enjoy all that Somerset has to offer. Hopefully return in the warmer months to enjoy the lovely garden and brook and the walks from the door.

"We really enjoyed our stay but there are a few improvements that can be made to make this better."
More information on the listing would be helpful particularly for those bringing dogs as we had to rely on other reviews for information. The beds/mattresses need replacing as the double has a cheap and old piece of foam on the top rather than a specific topper. Also, almost all properties we have stayed in have essentials in the property, such as tea or coffee. I appreciate that this isn’t a requirement but information such as this would also be helpful so that people know what they need to purchase or bring with them in advance. The tv is also incredibly small and can hardly be seen from some angles.
The local walks and amenities are lovely and the living room very cosy.

"First impressions sadly weren't good as the garden was neglected and the decor inside was sad and scruffy in parts."
We met some locals when out walking one morning who had had relatives staying at Field Cottage and they corroborated this so we felt it wasn't just us being picky.
The bed was v comfy with good quality linen but the en suite (which we ended up not using) was tired looking with access v tricky with the way the door was hung. The bathroom was fine with a lovely deep bath.
We've stayed in lots of cottages and have never not found a welcome pack on arrival. Maybe just milk in the fridge but wine and cake have also been involved which goes a long way to help the experience.
The directions were a bit sketchy and I'm sure a lot of people have hesitated outside the first property in Brewers Lane with a no 3 outside. Clearer details about the actual location and where to park would be good as well as where exactly the key safe is (especially if the hedge is overgrown).
The issue with the central heating didn't help and there were several visits from British Gas until it was fixed. The owners were very quick to provide extra logs and heaters and we still had hot water.
But the loss of privacy and repeated visits was annoying. There was a known, pre-existing issue with the boiler.
We did light the open fire but it made the room very smokey and didn't provide much heat unfortunately.

"A beautiful holiday home with absolutely everything needed to relax and enjoy a holiday."
The only downside was having to pack up and come home! Pleasantly situated adjacent to a babbling stream, lovely view from the kitchen window. Kitchen fully equipped, comfortable beds, lovely lounge area to relax and the cottage has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Short walk in to tow, just perfect

"Our main issue was the shower, on our 3rd day we found that by turning it on 30 mins before needed you just might have the water hot enough to shower that is if you had any pressure which was doubtful."

"I felt the pictures didn't actually do this cottage justice, it was beautiful & I was surprised at how easy it was to find considering I have absolutely no sense of direction!"
The location was perfect for us to visit family & it was so quiet, the only noise in the evening was the occasional owl.
The girls & I had a wonderful, comfortable week here & would happily stay again.
I would say though, if you have a large vehicle like we did, you would struggle to get 2 cars parked due to the low walls.

"The hive unit went of line so unable to boost the boiler for hot water, other than that beautiful cottage in quite picturesque surroundings."
Very comfy, contained everything we needed, well equipped kitchen, could have done with spare pillows.
The garden is not contained and for dogs that wander this would be an issue, our dog dosent stray so was not an issue for us.
Two good pubs within walking distance and ideal base for exploring
Loved the stream at side of the property and the great dog walks.
Had an excellent holiday, just loved the cottage and didn't want to leave.

"Our break coincided with noisy building work being done near the property, this was out of the owners control though."
Being a dog owner it would have been helpful to know that the gardens weren’t dog secure. It’s a lovely cottage in a secluded lane and within reach of a lot of destinations in Somerset. Excellent!

The location was great , cottage comfortable, but a bit dated could do with a makeover, had a good stay overall which was spoiled by the boiler breaking down, so had no heating, or hot water had to buy logs for the fire at a cost to ourselves of £70 , owner came and put immersion heater on so then at least then had hot water tried to blame us which was very unprofessional, was finally fixed after 5 days boiler is antiquated , would have really enjoyed it without this problem

"Very noisy boiler and one minute the radiators upstairs were pumping out excessive heat and then stopped altogether so it became quite chilly - not helped by the windows being single glazed."
Proper shower over the bath with a screen would have been good too.
Also warning before arrival on the hazards in the drive re wall and metal post sticking up which of course I drove into and have seriously damaged my car door/wing. In the dark with car queuing up behind it was impossible to see this! Some helpful tips on good pubs & places to eat and visit - perhaps some walk guides too. Welcome pack a bit insignificant as we don't drink cider - perhaps a bottle of wine instead!

"Big range cooker, didn't work kept tripping the electric."
We had bought food to cook in oven. Owner did attend couldn't fix it, didn't seem to be on a proper electrical cooker box. He did cook one meal for one guest and then brought us a tiny air fryer. We were there for a wedding we spent the whole morning prior to the wedding cooking breakfast pastries 1 or 2 at a time it took over 2 hours. I've complained to Sykes and they've said they will call me today but so far they have not. This cottage is tired, it could be nice with a little tlc but as well aa the cooker the shower was mouldy and there was only one bedside table so I had to put my drink on the floor and also risk the safety of my glasses on which I am reliant by also putting them on the floor. Also no real fire notice saying chimney was blocked with sticks from jackdaws. Shame really because we are looking for a place to stay regularly as we have family in the area. I wouldn't go there again and if Sykes don't call as promised I won't use them again either

"Had a good week, apart from too much rain!"
Cottage was large and roomy, with good broadband speed. Heating was sadly needed due to the weather, but the heating worked well, although the boiler was a bit noisy & occasionally banged unexpectedly. Good location for the town and for walks.

"The parking space was too small for two cars."
The ensuite shower room was ridiculously tiny and the shower tray did not drain. Almost flooded the floor on several occasions. The tiles in the shower cubicle have a lot of black mould. The hot water supply automatically heats the two bedrooms and makes it unbearably hot. A chest of drawers and a mirror should be provided in the double room, a bookcase is unnecessary, but clothes storage is essential. One of the kitchen cupboards smelt very mouldy and this affected the pans and utensils in it.

"Field cottage is in a lovely spot, ideal for dog walking & lots of amenities within walking distance."
The cottage was very clean & beautiful but it does have a few problems. The double bed room has nowhere to store anything or even a mirror to dry your hair. The ensuite is tiny with a very noisy shower. If a tap is run while the shower is on it sounds like its about to blow up. The door opening inwards doesn't help. As for the kitchen door lock, everyone in our party struggled to open & lock with the key. We took to locking it from the outside as it was too difficult to lock from the inside. The front door lock is better but both in need of changing for safety reasons.

Ideal location for us to visit friends in Clarkes Meadow just 3mins drive away.
Convenient fields right next to cottage for our dog to enjoy. Wifi was a bonus as was the smart tv.

Location is great for exploring the area and the nearby pub was excellent. The only negative is that the double bedroom and bed is very small and doesn't have storage so may not suit two couples.
Thanks for your feedback. There is a large walk in cupboard with hanging space on the upstairs landing for use by the occupants of the double bedroom and the the twin room has a large wardrobe.

Shepton Mallet is set in the Mendip foothills, and is at the geographical heart of the Mendip District, between the villages of Evercreech and Doulting. This is a beautiful landscape, with unique places to visit and activities for everyone. Shepton Mallet is home to the Royal Bath and West Showground; one of Britain's major agricultural shows is held here annually in May/June, and many other events are staged throughout the year. The town is positioned close to Wells, Glastonbury and Bath, and many family attractions including Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves and East Somerset Railway are all within a 45-minute drive.
