The cottage is in a lovely position with beautiful views. We had a very enjoyable time in this well kept and cosy cottage and although the mornings were quite cold with frost on the ground we were never cold at all. The hot tub was a very enjoyable bonus as were the televisions in every room. The only small quibble I have is that we could have done with a proper freezer, not just a small part of the fridge, but we managed and we were there for nearly two weeks.

The cottage was in an excellent location for sightseeing in Somerset and beyond.. Plenty of good pubs locally to eat out. Hot tub was a real hit.

Had a week away at the end of November to spend some time walking along the coast and exploring Exmoor.. The location of the site was ideal for this being a short drive from Dunster and the coast. Accommodation was excellent as it was warm and comfortable with everything we needed. The site was lovely and quiet. The hot tub was ideal for relaxing after many hours of walking and it was checked and maintained each day by Dan or by Louis the site owner. We had a really pleasant and relaxing stay.

The site was lovely and clean.. All cottages were sited to be very private. Cottage was exceptionally clean with lovely facilities. The hot tub was a bonus. It was cleaned every morning. It would be nice if the garden was fenced so you could let your dog out whilst you sat in the sun.

Cottage was beautiful and kept in lovely grounds.. Although several cottages together it felt private. Lloyd kept the hot tub clean. They even provided you with 4 sun loungers. Overall it was a lovely holiday in a beautiful location

We felt for the price and in a house sleeping four adults one single roll of toilet paper was not enough.. We had to ask for a second which was embarrassing! Also in a cottage with a hot tub more than one towel per adult was definitely needed. Or we ought to be advised to bring our own. There was a washing machine but no dryer so couldn't even wash them. On arrival we had no light... Which was quickly sorted but still not a good first impression. Then shortly after we lost water too. The site manager came in to fix this issue but we were sat having dinner and he worked around us in quite a small space, climbing a ladder millimetres away from my plate. Not good!

The comfort of the cottage was great.. The hot tub was amazing and lovely and private. The kitchen was well equipped but lacked a decent dinner plate, we had to go out and buy four plates to serve our dinner on. Other than that, couldn't fault it.

A lovely quiet spot.. Clean and cosy cottage. Could hear the peacocks and monkeys from the nearby zoo in the morning. Hot tub particularly welcome after long days spent walking. Gemma was welcoming and helpful. Garden might be improved by enclosed fencing for those visitors like us who have a dog. A great base in which you can explore the local area and we left feeling relaxed and rejuvinated !

We had a great relaxed holiday in our home away from home.. It had a huge welcoming feel from when you pull into the driveway. We were given a warm welcome from the start. The cottage and hot tub were very clean. I would recommend this place to everyone and hope to visit again ourselves.

August 2018
The position of the cottage is perfectly private and we felt at ease about our two excited boys playing outside without upsetting people in nearby cottages.. The facilities within the cottage were outstanding, even down to pegs for the washing line, washing up liquid, every type of utensil, pot and pan so that if you wanted to make a full dinner you had the means to do so. I was very pleased to see mattress and pillow protectors on all beds (although I did bring my own waterproof one for my youngest who occasionally gets caught short at night). As well as the standard dustpan and brush, there was a vacuum cleaner and mop and bucket. We even had boxes of games to play as a family. We all enjoyed having underfloor heating in the wet room along with a heated towel rail. Quite simply, it's the most well equip cottage we have ever stayed in. The location of the cottage is great, and very accessible to the main routes around the South West, so day trips were trouble free, and there is a lot to see and do in the area. We found the owners friendly and helpful, and there if you needed them. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again if we chose to holiday in the area again.

The owner was happy to help with anything we wanted, he was on hand if we needed help.. The cottage was spotless and we and our dogs were made to feel welcome. The location was excellent and we enjoyed trips out to the local amenities. We enjoyed a visit to the coast and also Taunton. The cottage was all on one level which was great for my mum and our dogs. Lovely restful week and would visit again.

A little worn in general with furniture but comfortable.. A small welcome pack or at least a cleaning product would be nice. Garden chairs need replacing. Windows needed cleaning. Hot tub fabulous. Gemma brilliant. Nothing too much trouble. A credit to the team at Shells Cottages.

Walnut cottage was really nice. Site manager Gemma was fabulous - great host and always available. Hot tub was the real selling point to this cottage, well maintained and a very wise investment. Cottage was mostly clean and well equipped. However there are one or two things to note. The garden is not enclosed so dog owners be wary that the 'quick wee' at night requires a lead for roaming pups. The grey gravel surrounding the cottages and parking areas is very dusty and makes a bit of a mess inside. In terms of size, although this is a four person, two bedroom holiday cottage the beds in the second bedroom are bunks and they are small. Probably suitable for a family with little children. The bed in the main bedroom is a double divan with no head board and felt particularly small. It's also on wheels. So if you like to sit up and read in bed you will probably scoot across the room like we did! Completely understand selling a cottage on a website with nice photos but the little touches weren't evident. No cushions on the bed, just the 'no dogs on sofa' cushion, no throws, no little touches in the bathroom as per photos etc. As for cleanliness it was all pretty nice and clean but we did notice huge cobwebs on the skylights that had clearly been there for some time, the coffee table was sticky. Just little things really and nothing so significant it spoilt our holiday but maybe just not quite meeting expectation of a 'luxury' cottage. It is well located for things to do, most of which are at least partially dog friendly. Dunster Castle gardens was a favourite and the Torre cider farm. All in all a nice relaxing break.

The whole experience was a pleasure, from the moment we arrived till the moment we left.. Gemma the site manager made us welcome and was helpful and available for advice and information on the local area. My wife and I would have no hesitation in recommending Shell Cottages to anyone.

May 2018
We had a great week.. Greeted by Gemma on arrival, showed us around, how things worked, very friendly welcome The property is even better in real life than the pictures. Even having properties around you does not affect your privacy or the peacefulness of this lovely location. Fed the local birds, and watched them feed on the bird table from the lounge. The hot tub is cared for daily which is reassuring for all. The local area has lots to do (some of which will be waiting for our 2nd visit!) We have a dog, and this was great for her, however, if you need a totally secure garden - this garden is in no way secure, its open, with open fences. Comfy beds, clean linen provided.

Recently stayed in this charming little cottage whilst on a short family holiday to escape ongoing building work at home. The cottage is lovely. Very well equipped and has everything that you would realistically need for a short break away! Hot tub is brilliant and extremely well maintained. There is plenty to do in the local area and cottage is perfect for quiet nights in when the weather turns in! The site is extremely well maintained by manager Gemma, she provided us with a warm welcome and ensured that we had a pleasant stay whilst we were here with nothing being too much trouble. Excellent all round! Will return again

November 2016
Lovely little cottage in a great location.. Very clean, cosy & private and the hot tub is lovely. Although dog friendly, the private garden is not secure and having to keep them on a lead to wee wasn't ideal and would be the main reason we wouldn't book again.

August 2016
Superb location and cottage, could not fault in any way.. Very clean and welcoming, had a superb stay! Only piece of feedback would actually be on the advertisement - we would strongly recommend making it very clear on the advert that children are not allowed to use the hot tub, as our little girl had been looking forward to this for months, and was obviously very disappointed when we arrived to find out that she could not use it. No other complaints at all other than this through.

This is a beautifully clean and well equipped cottage, we loved the wetroom with its underfloor heating and the recliner chairs in the lounge. We had a problem with the DVD player and this was immediately rectified when the owner was informed, he bought us a replacement. Outside there is a barbeque and a picnic table and the garden was plenty big enough for our son to enjoy running around in. The Hot tub was lovely although we were slightly disappointed when we were informed that we could not use it after 8pm on the Thursday night because it is drained and cleaned for the new occupants. It has always been part of our holiday to have a soak before bed time. The beds are very comfortable and we always slept well, the only gripe I had was that the mirror in the bedroom needed to be moved because it was too far away from the plug socket so made styling my hair difficult. On the whole though, i would highly recommend staying here. This is a lovely peaceful holiday cottage, the area is fabulous for families with kids, there is a lot to do, lots of family friendly attractions, nice pubs serving good food, real ales and beer gardens with play equipment and beautiful countryside. We had a lovely stay and we didn't want to leave.

The cottage was lovely and the hot tub not overlooked. Had own private garden for kids to play so not encroaching on other peoples holidays. Everything was well maintained, in excellent condition. The site itself was very clean and tidy. The owner was very helpful, with local information of places to go to eat and what places welcomed dogs. A lot of hard work has gone into the cottages and the up keep of them. The hot tub was brilliant, very clean and it was good to know that the water was changed for each new holiday maker, the water was checked every day to make sure it was at the correct hygiene level. Would definitely recommend.
