• "For anyone looking for peace and quiet, Creenagh’s Cottage is the place to go."

  It exceeded our expectations, clean, cosy and warm. Wonderful walking either from the cottage or within an easy drive, not forgetting unforgettable scenery at every turn. Having the lovely Geoff and Bev on hand to answer any query, and a cuddle with Tommy the puppy was a big bonus. Bev’s craft shop is well worth a visit with wonderful knitted items to purchase. Exmoor is definitely dog friendly, our Airedale was welcomed wherever we went. Our 4 night stay was definitely too short, hopefully we will be back.

• "Another wonderful break at Knighton."

  The perfect spot for exploring all that Exmoor has to offer. The cottage is ideal for a single traveller or a couple. Well equipped, cosy and with everything that you could need. Great walks locally and a warm welcome from the Royal Oak, Withypool. Geoff was also Mr Unflappable when my car broke down in his yard on the Friday, helping with numbers of local mechanics, makiing sure the recovery truck could get into the yard and generally keeping me from losing my marbles alongside the bearings from my wheel!

• "We had a fantastic time at the cottage, it is in a truly spectacular location."

  The cottage has a very cosy feel to it, and it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The hosts were lovely, and made sure we were looked after, bringing fresh firewood when needed, and candles when we had an unexpected power cut due to a big storm on the first night. Very dog friendly with a lovely little enclosed garden - especially for our two spaniels, who were basically loving staying a 5 minute walk from open moor land! Given where it is, (it is a little remote), some planning on getting food and supplies in is required - the closest big town being at least 30 minutes away. That doesn't detract from the cottage at all, in fact it was exactly what we were looking for. Nice and quiet, with no phone signal - just perfect! Its a great place to explore the wilds of Exmoor, highly recommended.

  Geoff and Bev made us very welcome including a gift package for us weary travellers and made sure we were well looked after. The cottage proved to be an excellent base to explore the countryside, local historic sites, towns and beaches.

• "Loved the location of the property."

  Garden although basic was private and enclosed. Disappointed with the lack of space to prepare anything in the kitchen. Only one Jay cloth thingy to clean, didn't know I had to bring dish cloths. Didn't realise the bathroom was so closely connected to the lounge. The shower although the pressure was good it was so small that when washing legs your head touched one side of the shower and your but the other side. And I'm not big. Felt that if needed a bath mat as I felt each time I got out there was a danger of slipping. The bedroom on the whole I was satisfied with, there was a lack of light for doing hair and make up in the dressing table area. I was also a bit chilly a few nights but no extra blankets. Hosts were very welcoming

• "This is a delightful little cottage set in a beautiful spot near Withypool in Exmoor."

  The cottage had everything we needed for a perfect week’s break and was very warm and very cosy. There were lots of lovely walks from the cottage for us and our Golden Retriever and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area as Exmoor is stunning. The owners were very helpful and greeted us warmly on our arrival. I love to cook and the kitchen had everything I needed to create cosy suppers! A truly lovely holiday.

• "Sykes details describing the Farm, Directions to the Farm and Proximity to the Village/Amenities are not accurate and misleading."

  THESE DETAILS NEED TO BE AMENDED. The Farm is not a working Farm. It is a holiday let business with several Alpacas in a field. There is no walking route to the village of Withypool and the drive to the village is 1.9 miles via the private road and B road neither of which have a path to walk upon. The Private road (not a driveway) contains many potholes and is problematic for a standard car to navigate. The cottage has NO mobile phone reception. Description of "limited" mobile phone reception is incorrect. Cleanliness throughout needs to be improved. Removal of numerous spiders webs and dead spiders is needed. The Kitchen area needs a good clean and degrease. The spices and herbs in the Kitchen cupboard were out of date. The Microwave is dirty and rusty. The Toaster is dirty and old. The frying pans were all dirty and scratched with coating peeling off. All these items need to be replaced. There was no roasting tray of reasonable size to use. We had to buy one to cook a roast diner for two. The bathroom has very little storage. The space under the basin should contain a small cupboard or shelving to improve storage in the area. Decoration throughout the cottage is very tired and in desperate need of a refresh. These points are my observations and recommendations for improvement. Positive points is that the heating and shower worked well. The area within which the farm and cottage is located is beautiful and the owners were friendly and helpful. Would recommend Sykes work with the owners to address the items listed for improvement.

• "We adore remote places and and beautiful scenery and that’s what Creenagh’s Cottage offers."

  It is not luxury but it provides everything you need and is a wonderful base for walkers or for anyone wishing to explore Exmoor. There is a cosy sitting room, a spacious bedroom, a well equipped kitchen with an excellent oven & hob and a sweet and very sunny little private garden which was lovely to sit and have a beer in after a hard day walking! Our hosts Geoff and Bev the farm owners were lovely people, and kindly provided some bread, butter, biscuits, milk and wine to arrive to which we much appreciated. We met the 3 Alpacas one day who seem characters! In the garden we were deafened by the sound of the birds and bees but nothing else. Heaven! Wonderful to hear the owls at night too. We are lucky to have been blessed with amazing weather for our stay and have much enjoyed it. I recommend popping in some insect repellent as we encountered few pockets of horseflies but only when out walking. For people to whom location is important in terms of using the village shop or pub, please note that the location of the cottage on the Sykes website map plus some of the information they give about its location is incorrect. Find Knighton Farm on the OS map and that is where it is (NOT Waterhouse Farm which is much closer to the village of Withypool and where it is incorrectly positioned). Strolling to the pub in the evening is not an option. Knighton Farm lies across a valley about a mile to the west. It's a shame that visitors arrive at this beautiful spot are disappointed to realise it's not where they thought it would be! If you take your own provisions as we always do, it is an ideal and beautiful location and we had a fabulous time. Thank you Geoff and Bev. (There is Wifi at the cottage but no mobile signal so we made our necessary calls using Whatsapp which worked fine.)

• "1. The directions to the property need to be more specific - they give the impression that the property is located just outside Withypool when in fact it is a long drive out of town before you take the 'sharp turn right' and find the start of the very long driveway."

  It then says 'follow the drive down to the property' - this should be more specific - it is a very long driveway - a mile long and it should say this! On the Sykes website this drive is described as 'a well-kept mile long track'. (& you only get this information AFTER you book the property). I'm sorry to tell you but this is the opposite of a well-kept track - it is severely pot holed and has to be taken at a very low speed to avoid any damage to the car. 2. The property fell below our standards of cleanliness - there were huge/old cobwebs/tissues behind the bed head and bedroom cupboard and the windows looked like they had never ever been cleaned. 3. The bed was like lying on a slab of stone (I ended up sleeping on 4 pillows!). 4. The shower was so loud that you couldn't hear the television even when at full volume. 5. The fridge has no shelves! This was very inconvenient meaning you had to take everything out of the fridge every time you needed something. 6. The oven took an hour to reach 150 degrees temperature! 7. On Sykes website it says 'shop & pub 20 mins' - well we tried walking several routes from the cottage and couldn't get to the pub or shop in under 40 minutes - so this is misleading! 8. On the Sykes website it says 'mobile reception is very limited' when in fact there is NO mobile reception! So this is misleading! 9. You need to ask for the BBQ as there is not one at the property. Again on the Sykes website it says there is one so this is misleading. 10. On the Sykes website the cottage is described as 'a beautifully refurbished annexe'. This is misleading...this property has not be refurbished for years! 11. In the Sykes website it says 1 bedroom - 1 x king size.'. This is VERY misleading - yes its a king size room (if one can describe a room in this way!) but, it is certainly NOT a king size bed! This is misleading! 12. If you are planning on leaving your car and walking from this property to one of the many walk routes on the Moors or to Tarr Steps then you need to add 2 miles to your journey time as the property is quite remote and not immediately withing walking distance of more than one public footpath (this path brings you to Lanacre or to Withypool in the other direction). Even this footpath is only accessible from the cottage along a private road and into a field (which is not part of the public footpath). 13. On the Sykes website it says 'Pub/shop <1 mile . This is misleading - it might have been less than 1 mile when the footpath was open from the cottage but it certainly has not been open for a very long time and we tried and failed to get to the pub in under 40 minutes! As the crow flies it might be <1 mile!!! 14. We did not see a single pig, alpaca, goat, geese or chickens 'roaming the working farmland' as described on the Sykes website and I suspect these animals have not been anywhere near this property for a very long time so it is misleading to describe them at all on the Sykes website as some people may book this property based on this information. We did see two cats! 15. Its a shame that the listing for this property isn't more honest because for a lot of people i'm sure that its remoteness and distance from Withypool would not be an issue. We booked the property, as seasoned walkers, but even for us we had to take into consideration that to get onto a public footpath from the property added at least an extra 2 miles to our overall planned journey time. 16. Having said all this, the property has a lovely little garden which I'm sure is perfect for dog owners and we did see rabbits and birds in it and the owners did allow us to enter the property an hour earlier. We did miss a pair of scissors but otherwise the property was well provided for. The shower, although sounding like it was going to explode, was actually very effective! Despite the owners giving us replacement TV remote control batteries, the remote still only worked intermittently!

• "Really enjoyable quiet stay, for us and our 2 dogs."

  The perfect base to explore Exmoor. Lovely cottage, well stocked with everything we required. We loved the peace of the countryside, waking up to the dawn chorus, rabbits playing in the garden, and the sounds of owls at night. We would definitely recommend this little holiday cottage, and hope to return soon.

• "We can highly recommend this superb Exmoor location, particularly if you want tranquillity."

  You can forget using your car because there are plenty of walks out from the cottage. Geoff and Bev, the caring owners, allow you to enjoy your stay without interference but are always there if if you need help. Enjoy a gentle 30 minute walk along the River Barle to the Royal Oak (offering a sensible priced menu), pick up groceries from the Village Store and relax at the Tea Room, all in nearby Withypool. Alternatively, purchase some excellent cuts of beef and goat meat (do try it - great in either a curry or stew) from the owners.

• "This was a lovely cosy cottage in a secluded location but with relatively easy access to Exmoor as a whole."

  The owners were exceptionally supportive and friendly. Us and dogs had a great holiday and would recommend this property to would be visitors. The only issue, and nothing to do with the holiday accommodation itself, was that the directions contained in the Sykes joining instructions need to be a little more accurate. The turn off quoted for the location of the property is almost one mile further down the road from the reference point stated and needs a fuller explained. Apart from that the break was idyllic.

  Well placed for easy access to nearby places of interest yet rural. Lovely hosts with an added bonus for me of home grown alpaca wool for sale. The cottage had its own space at the rear to sit outside and is perfect for 2. It's spacious and adequately equipped. It literally sits on the moor.

• "Our hosts were wonderful."

  They were friendly, helpful and extremely accommodating. The area was stunning, with lovely walks from the farm. The cows, goats and alpacas on the farm were very well cared for and happy to see a friendly face with a camera! The cottage was perfect and we arrived to find bread, milk, butter, etc. plus a lovely bottle of wine waiting for us in the kitchen. The rear garden was very secure so our dog could enjoy it safely. Plenty of safe parking. Exmoor ponies and deer were seen close by. Local pubs excellent. Local shop very well stocked. Tea room served delicious hot and cold food. Highly recommend. The perfect place for a holiday.

  The cottage had everything we needed, and was very peaceful. The only traffic we saw was the herd of goats passing the wndow each morning and evening which was a delight. We arrived in the dark, and found the directions after Withypool could have been more precise (distances for example). We had no Satnav, and we turned back before we reached the turn off, not realising how far out of the village it was. But once we found the cottage the location was perfect. The enclosed garden was great as we didn't have to worry about letting our 2 little dogs out in the morning while we had reakfast. Bev the owner was very friendly and helpful, and just next door if we needed anything. We thoroughly recommend Creenagh's Cottage. Lovely.
