June 2023
We arrived on Saturday 17th June at 3.15pm for 7 nights at Sunshine Lodge, Stogursey, Somerset which is a Sykes lodge. We were meant to stay for 7 nights however my wife wanted to go home after 1 night. We finally decided to leave at 10am today Wednesday 21st June. Safe to say the place could do with a decent clean. Never have we stayed somewhere so dirty. Not only that but hearing the lodge owners dogs barking every morning between 6am and 7am isn't acceptable. Staying so far from shops and the nearest supermarket you expect to have a decent size fridge and freezer. The freezer barely fitted 2 microwave meals and an ice pack. Glasses covered in grease, radiator in the bathroom filthy, a mouldy shower mat, hairs on the bathroom walls, the double bed mattress just falling apart, cheap wardrobes barely worth having with no doors, a review 2 weeks ago stated a disgusting mop covered in bits outside which was still there, oven hob disgusting, grease on kitchen doors, several left food items well out of date (Dec 2021 on the pasta ), air fresheners left plugged in and on with nothing in them, bathroom shelf barely hanging on the wall, toaster was disgusting and doesn't work properly, fridge freezer pointless. Oh and we found a frying pan in the drawer just disgusting with grease/oil And rust on the shower rail that I believe someone left a review about in August 2020 Sykes have said they won't be doing anything about it. Not surprisingly really. They received their payment and couldn't care less.

Just got back from a weeks stay, ideal for us 3 adults and 4 dogs. Very rural but suited us, plenty of places to visit within a short drive. Visited minehead, wells and Bristol, great secure garden for the dogs. Comfortable beds. Already booked again next year, only things that stopped this being a 5 star is no Wi-Fi, dishwasher and washing machine

Lovely peaceful cottage with good facilities.. Can be a little hard to find but I’d done my research so knew where to find it. Our dogs loved it although the fussy so and so’s didn’t want the homemade dog treats the owner made for them but they didn’t want the ones we made either. Lots of dvds to watch in the evening if we couldn’t find anything to watch on tv.

I have a dog and my Auntie had a dog, but the overwhelming smell of dogs hit you as soon as you walk in the inner door.. The carpet in the Lounge had all bumps in it which was a trip hazard. The hob was dirty and greasy, when you took dishes out of cupboards the cupboards looked and smelled like it hadn’t been cleaned for a while. The double bed was not comfortable, the pillows did not smell nice. I slept out in our car from Saturday when we arrived until the Wednesday when we went home, because the weather was on the change and quite simply I had enough. If it wasn’t for the fact my Auntie had been shielded and was SO looking forward to the week away, we would of walked out on the first day. IN COVID TIMES I EXPECTED A LOT MORE, The place was full with books, dvd’s, maps, etc The curtain rail in the bathroom was rusty, there where no aids to help you in or out of the bath. The whole place was Very disappointing and not clean.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sunshine Lodge.. Pam the owner made our stay very welcoming with chocolate and biscuits left for all us, including homemde one for our dog. Definitely a place to stay with your dog. The only thing I would suggest that you do an online shopping order as the nearest shop is about 20 minutes away but we knew this before so not a problem. Also remember that there is no WiFi but was not a problem for us. Definitely will be hopefully going back in the future. Thank you Pam making our stay so relaxing and enjoyable.

This property has a rat infestation. There are rats nests in the garden and a rat runway between this property and the one next door. There are rats in the loft and although the owner has thrown poison up there they are still there. I heard them scratching at night. Please be careful especially with children going there and any pets staying I found wrappers from the poison thrown in the loft in the garden. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO SYKES COTTAGES BUT THEY DON@T SEEM VERY INTERESTED!

We have recently spent a great Christmas at Sunshine Lodge.. Our 3 big dogs absolutely loved it. Both the front & back gardens were totally secure for them & Pam, the owner spoilt both them & us. Tea, coffee, milk & sugar, as well as mince pies, chocolates, and a tin of biscuits, were there to welcome us when we arrived. Our dogs had a big box of toys & home made doggy biscuits. Pam herself, came out in the torrential rain to make sure we had everything we needed. Later in the week, she let our dogs play in a big secure agility/ obstacle field, she had built herself, for her 4 dogs, & made us coffee whilst all the dogs played together. She clearly loves dogs as much as we do. We have already booked for Christmas 2021 (as Christmas 2020 is booked up) An amazing holiday, & an amazing lady.

Lovely peaceful cottage and great enclosed garden to front and rear for the dog knowing she could not escape! ! lovely treats left for us by the owner and also lovely homemade doggy biscuits which were all very welcome. Great location for touring Somerset and beach not far away for the dog. I would avoid the walk to Stolford beach though as very muddy and my springer need a big bath on returning!! The weather was great so were out and about - Kilve beach good at high tide as very pebbly but there is a small lagoon bit if tide out for the dog to swim. Minehead and Watchet nice places and good fish and chips in Minehead. willows and wetlands centre near Yeovil great place on Somerset levels also very dog friendly. All in all a lovely two weeks spent at Sunshine Lodge. Only downside was no WIFI to check postcodes for places to visit and details of places and my data was limited!!

This is the 2nd year we have visited Sunshine Lodge but for 2 weeks this time We love this place and booked again for next year Found more dog friendly places and stumbled upon a woodland walk with a running stream.. . dogs had a little paddle We have been lucky with the weather too it's been glorious Pam the owner is so kind and is always available if we need anything

Lovely open planned living area.. very dog friendly, rear garden is completely dog proof, front garden is dog proof except for the very smallest of dogs (5kg and under) On a quiet road but only 2 minutes from the A39. A few good walks from the cottage doorstep and loads more within 20mins drive

March 2019
This was the most dog friendly cottage I have ever stayed in: paw drying towels in the porch, home made doggie biscuits on arrival, poo bags by back door and a box full of toys to play with in the completely secure garden (even for two large lively hounds).. The human welcome was also excellent.. I returned home yesterday lunchtime and booked sunshine lodge again yesterday evening.. If you have an awards scheme then Pam deserves one. A very satisfied customer Marie Whitehouse plus Milo & Tara

The holiday lodge was very comfortable and well exquiped.. It is a quiet and peaceful spot. But most importantly to us the garden was dog friendly so we had no worries about letting our dog roam around outside in the back garden. And yes we would go back there again.

Sunshine lodge lives up to its name.. The moment we entered this property we felt at home it was better than we expected the owner made us very welcome with treats for the dogs and us humans. Every little detail had been thought about to help us relax and enjoy our time in Somerset .Thank you and well done to all concerned.

October 2018
The welcome pack was lovely, thank you.. The owner made it very friendly for the dogs, and the dog toys and towels that were left were a fab idea, thank you. The bed was uncomfortable and was a cheap framed bed that was wobbly, did not feel safe sleeping in the bed so slept in the recliner chair in the lounge, which was the only comfy chair in the house. The sofas were uncomfy as no head or upper back support. Might was to get a better feather duster to reach those cob webs too. The hoover was not fit for purpose, the carpet looked worse after I hoovered. I have a long estate car so the gates on the drive would not close, therefore the front garden was not dog friendly. Could not park outside due to blocking field entrance. Could not park on road as single track road, and used by large lorries carry goods to build sea defences.

We have now stayed at Sunshine Lodge 3 times .. A lovely comfortable place to stay in a very quiet location . The main factor for us is the secure gardens even our adventurous Westies are safe . There wonderful places to visit , take insect repellent if you go to Steart !

The owner was very thoughtful, in that she contacted us on Friday afternoon, the day before our departure.. We had expressed concerns over the very busy traffic that weekend. She offered to prepare the cottage for our use, for 8 a.m. on the Saturday morning. We set off early and arrived about 9 a.m., so gaining, instead of losing a day of holiday. It was much appreciated. The cottage garden is very secure for pets, so we could leave the doors open, without worrying (Weather is/was very HOT!). The inside suitable for dogs too, so no worries there either. It is clean, comfortable and homely. A little out of the way, but that is what we wanted: quiet and peaceful.

If using Sat Nav co-orordinates be aware you are told you have reached your destination after a short distance into the lane where the property is situated.. You will need to follow more closely the directions given by the owner and count off the cottages found on your right on the right hand side of the lane until you reach Sunshine Lodge. The lane is very narrow so take it slowly.

November 2017
What a wonderful surprise this comfortable cottage is.. Really dog friendly and caters for all doggy needs, which made our holiday really relaxing with our 4 dogs. A very secure garden, front and back, even for small dogs. The cottage is about a mile from Hinkley Power Station, along a very quiet lane in countryside, which was initially a bit of a shock, but drive out 15 minutes and the Quantock Hills and surrounding area are fantastic and well worth a visit. Amazing walks and quaint little villages nearby. So a great place as a base, with your dogs, to enjoy the Quantock National Park and nearby area.

The property is in a very rural setting and far from any shops or Inns.. It is very much geared to dog owners which suited us as we have two Labradors. Walking them off lead was very difficult however as the local beaches are very muddy and basically marshland .

We absolutely loved this property. We loved the living area as it is all open planned and enough space for our three large dogs. The garden was also a massive positive as it was so secure and it meant we didn't need to worry about the dogs being outside. Although this property is out in the sticks, you're still close to some life with a short drive away. The owner is also very lovely! This is a fabulous place!

This was advertised as a dog friendly cottage and it was certainly that. The conversion had been done by someone that understands dogs, yet the quality was very high, much better than an average cottage. The garden is dog proof and floodlit.
