This house was absolutely ideal for our largish family party ( 9 adults, 6 children ( 2-5 years old ) and a baby ! !). . .

The Old Schoolhouse and Cottage provides lovely, spacious accommodation for large groups.. We were a family gathering with ages ranging from 94 years down to 6 months and we had plenty of room and space for the week. The dining room is quite tight to seat 17 but we managed it. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. The gardens are lovely to walk around and the lawn is big enough for a game of French Cricket. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub too. Bishops Castle is a very pleasant town with 2 small supermarkets, an excellent butchers, gift-type shops and plenty of pubs. The Three Tuns pub and brewery is just 2 minutes walk away. The property owner was very friendly and helpful. We will be back.

Lovely setting for our annual family girlie weekend away.. Best equipped kitchen ever providing more than needed supplies of crockery as opposed to the normal 1 plate per person. Excellent hot tub. Very comfortable beds. We had a fabulous time. Owner was very welcoming and on hand if we required any assistance

The short break was so enjoyable that we have booked it already for next year.. Superb location - just a shame we picked wettest weekend of the year but it did not dampen our enjoyment.

We had a fantastic holiday at the Old Schoolhouse.. We had chosen the house based on the wonderful pictures, and it still far exceeded our expectations in person! We were at full capacity (17 adults) and still found the house to be more than big enough for us all. We are able to all sit down at the dining table and enjoy dinner and, thanks to the wonderful weather, we made full use of the garden and the amazing views of the local countryside. The hot tub was another great bonus to the weekend, and it was great to arrive to it turned on and ready to be used! We were also pleasantly surprised by the ample amount of parking, as we had 7 cars and plenty of space. We also visited the Three Tuns pub, which is a few moments walk from the house, and can definitely recommend. All in all, a truly idyllic weekend - thank you so much Adrian.

What a lovely house with all the facilities needed for a party of 14 people with varying ages and mobility capabilities.. We booked a table at The Three Tuns pub round the corner for Friday night and the food and welcome were excellent. The hot tub was a lovely addition after a long day's walking and sightseeing on Saturday - Bishops Castle is a very pretty town with coffee shops and walks, Ludlow is very picturesque with a market in the square on a Saturday, so, many different levels of entertainment depending on how active members of your party wish to be. Indian and Chinese takeaways were the order of the day for Saturday night and then we were back to The Three Tuns for a Roast on Sunday. The house and cottage are extremely comfortable with a lovely big lounge in the Schoolhouse that can accommodate everyone and the logburner made it really cosy. We had a lovely weekend and would thoroughly recommend the house and surrounding area for a lovely weekend away. Hopefully we will be back on another occasion!

A lovely house for a large party and having the seperate cottage aswell was really useful . We had a nice stay celebrating a special family wedding Anniversary . We thought the house very full of character, roomy and nicely positioned however we thought it was in need of some TLC in places that let it down somewhat. On arrival the stained Lino/floor covering at the back entrance looked quite worse for wear and my heart sank a bit . It did improve though and as I said we enjoyed our stay but too numerous to mention and maybe might sound unkind but the whole house in places needs some work and tidying up, thought it was quite shabby in some areas.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable time.. This was our second time at this property and enjoyed it even more the second time. It's comfortable without being pristine. Lots of space for everyone. Seating in the dining room is a bit cramped with 14 adults but it's a matter of a different layout.

We were a group of 14 adults who went to university together.. The cottage fit us all very comfortably, and the rooms were lovely and big. The kitchen was fully equipped, and made it easy to arrange for big group meals between us. The hot tub and tennis courts were wonderful, and we were all quite happy hanging around the local area for the week we were there.

The Old Schoolhouse and cottage is perfect for big family gatherings.. We had three families and the grandparents all staying there together. It is a lovely house and very easy to feel at home staying there - the kids lovely playing Sardines in the house. The hot tub is a real treat and we enjoyed lovely walks from the house.

The property was very good and provided us with all that we needed for a party of 17 celebrating Christmas and a 50th wedding anniversary.. The rooms were very comfortable and we all had plenty of space. The oven did take some getting used to but we were still able to cook a big a Christmas dinner. The surrounding area was fantastic as were the nearby pubs which had some great local brews.

We all really enjoyed our recent 5 night stay at The Old Schoolhouse and Cottage.. There was lots of space for 15 of us to spread out with lots of seating areas. The main sitting room had nice seating with a log burner. There was a large dining room with an extendable table to get us all round at mealtimes. The kitchen was big and well stocked with utensils and had a smaller table and chairs and a window seat for smaller gatherings. There was also an AGA which took a bit of getting used to and you could not cook anything if you were in a rush but there was also microwave for ‘emergencies’. The property had 2 dishwashers which were very useful for larger families. There was a washing machine in the utility room but no tumble dryer which we found slightly problematic at times and, other than the fridges and freezer there was nowhere to store other food. The grounds surrounding the property are nice and the small children played croquet whilst the older ones played tennis. The 9 seater hot tub was a huge bonus. There was a separate cottage with 2 bedrooms (1 double bedroom and 1 single). The cottage was entirely self-sufficient with a kitchen and shower room and was only a few steps from the main house. On our arrival we were met by the owner who showed us around and how things worked etc which was useful. We had his phone number if we needed him and did not feel that it was necessary for him to keep coming back and letting himself into the house to check on us. That aside we had a wonderful time.

Such a great house, feed back from the friends I went with was really good with bed comfort high on list plus the use of such a lovely garden.. Hot tub was a hit even when the heavens opened up which thankfully was only the once. Parking was plentiful with good recommendations and information of local produce so all good on that front. Can only really think of a couple of bad points which concerned some of the group both of which were just things that will probably never arise again. So would we go back probably yes but as a group we do like to wander around the country so not for a few years. So there we have it a great base to stop at with lots of stuff to do, so what more do you want

A wonderful garden to relax in and an owner who took a real interest in our welfare, calling round regularly and asking us to report any issues to him so that they could be dealt with immediately.. What a refreshing change from other owners!

July 2018
We had a wonderful extended family holiday at the Old School House and it was perfect for our large group.. The house had plenty for room for everyone and we never felt over crowded. The beds were comfortable and clean. We were blessed with fabulous weather too and spent lots of time in the beautiful gardens and had lots of time in the hot tub. We managed to fit 15 of us in it on one occasion! Adrian, the owner and staff were also very friendly and helpful.

July 2018
We were a group of 14 aged 20-35 celebrating a 30th birthday and a 28th birthday and we all had a fantastic stay.. There were plenty or bedrooms over the schoolhouse and cottage, enough for everyone to sleep comfortably, and for all of the couples to have a kingsize bed. There were plenty of toilets and showers so minimal queuing, and the facilities in general were great. We had never used an aga cooker before but the owner gave us instructions when he took us around the house and it was easy. The living room is large and very comfortable. The grounds were beautiful; the tennis courts were great fun, the greenhouse and flowerbeds were lovely to walk around, and the lawned area was large, with a big table and chairs to sit and enjoy breakfast and BBQs alfresco. The hot tub in the garden was one of the best features which we all loved. We had a fabulous weekend and will definitely book again.

June 2018
Local amenities are good, but as a large group we found it easier to book a delivery to our holiday home from one of the larger supermarkets, which are about 40 minutes drive away.. It worked well for us and saved us a lot of time. Our accommodation was superb, would highly recommend a visit to The Old School House at Bishop’s Castle.

February 2018
The old school house and cottage isn't posh but it was perfect.. The old house had everything we needed for a fun fiftieth birthday party for we and my friends. The hot tub sat 8 of us very comfortably. The kitchen was so very well stocked with crockery, pot and pans and cosy Aga. The bedrooms were spacious and nicely decorated. Three settees in the lounge and the log burner too. I'd definitely recommend this house to friends and family and would like to visit again. The town of Bishops Castle is a lovely to with beautiful walks on the door step and a few really nice shops and pubs.

This comfortable well-equipped and spacious cottage had everything we needed to celebrate a big family birthday.. The hot tub was a great hit with everyone and there were plenty of bathrooms to make sure no-one had to wait. The owner was anxious to make sure we had all we needed, without being intrusive. Thank you so much for a weekend to remember.

Booked to celebrate Ukrainian Christmas for my 91 year old grandmother and jointly celebrate my mum's birthday. Had 13 of us comfortably entertained. Great array of twin, double and king sized bedrooms. Well equipped bathrooms and showers to cater for all of us. Loved the hot tub and cosy lounge. Dining was easy with the superbly stocked kitchen, plenty cutlery and crockery with electric range stove and 2 dishwashers made life easy to cater for us all. Lovely log burner with a good supply of extra logs in the lounge and separate dining room to host everyone at meal times. Great walks to be had but the town itself was lovely to walk round and sample the food and drink in the local pubs. The owner of the property was very welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. If the weather had been better we would have loved to use the tennis courts too. Great place, highly recommend a visit here.

My friends booked this for a total of 10 people as part of a year of celebrations. The house is enormous and is extremely comfortable. I was lucky to have one of the twin rooms at the top. There are 4 double rooms on the first level, so plenty of choice. There are dishwashers aplenty, a hot tub after a day of walking, and an Aga which took a little getting used to. The garden is well maintained and there are fresh herbs for cooking. My only concern is the tiny shower room on the first level, but there are 3 others to choose from. Everyone loved this house, the cottage adjacent to it is compact and the 10 of us chose to stick together in the larger property.

The owner made our stay both easy comfortable and everyone we came into contact with made us feel very welcome. The property was just perfect for our requirements and felt very much like a home. The gardens were stunning and very well kept, a haven for peace and tranquillity. The village was an ideal base to be able to go out in the evening and find somewhere to eat.

A group of 17 came to The Old Schoolhouse for a long weekend to celebrate the retirement of one on us. The house and gardens were amazing! We made excellent use of the hot tub and the wood fire, and catering for 17 was made easier by the abundance of cutlery, glasses etc. Everybody had a brilliant time and without exception said they would recommend it to their friends. The local area, town and pub were all lovely. A thoroughly thoroughly enjoyable time was had any all. Thank you.

The owner could not have been more welcoming and helpful, and we all felt really relaxed and at home in the propert(ies). This property ticked all our boxes with disabled access and restaurants nearby. We received a warm welcome from the owner who lives on site. Our stay included three generations who all were impressed and enjoyed the property. The property was very well appointed with more than ample crockery and cutlery and two dishwashers to wash them all up in. The hot tub was a big hit with some. The property is situated at the top of the town which boasts two breweries, including the oldest licensed one on the UK and four other pubs, with ridge views on three sides. There is plenty of spaces for several cars, we had five between us and there was room for more.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable long weekend with our combined family and the property suited us perfectly. There was plenty of space for the children to enjoy themselves and for the adults to sit chatting knowing that the children were entertaining themselves. We plan to return to the property in February with a group of old friends and would thoroughly recommend to others.

October 2014
We are a group of school friends who meet up every year. This was a fantastic place with the perfect space. We loved being able to set the dining room up for mealtimes and found the buffet sideboard a brilliant addition. It is a character property with a few quirky corners but the furnishings and all beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed the garden and hot tub. It is a great property if you have less mobile people with you as there is a ground floor bedroom and full wet room opposite.
Dr Jones
September 2014
Flexible sleeping arrangements and lots of bathrooms. As there were two properties it was very handy to have two kitchens and plenty of room for eating. The owner was great and was around to answer any questions. The weather was fantastic so we made great use of the hot tub and garden. Overall I'd recommend it to any groups as there's something for everyone here. Great location, within walking distance of some lovely pubs and a lovely village/walks etc. Once you've arrived you don't need a car.
