Area
The Industrial Revolution was ushered in at Ironbridge Gorge, which is well-known on a global scale. Today, the region is hardly industrial, and the majority of the former industrial sites have been reclaimed by nature, leaving a distinctive and lovely wooded valley. The gorge is now a network of footpaths, bridleways, and rural lanes, and the charming settlement is well-known for being the location of the first iron-built bridge in the world, constructed between 1777 and 1779. The Ironbridge Museums Trust, which includes the fascinating Blists Hill Victorian Village, is a group of eleven museums with industrial and Victorian themes that are spread across the village. Popular historic towns like Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock, and Ludlow, as well as the Wroxeter Roman City, the Severn Valley Railway, the RAF Cosford Museum, and other National Trust properties, are all easily accessible by car. The picturesque county of Shropshire may be explored from a great starting point at Ironbridge.

Region
A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
