Area
This historic, picturesque village lies in the heart of the beautiful South Shropshire countryside and is set amidst renowned scenic walking and cycling country. The village's outstanding landmark is Caynham Camp, a huge Bronze Age/Iron Age earthwork which covers a site of eight acres at the summit, from which wonderful views can be enjoyed. Only 3 miles away is Ludlow, whose medieval street pattern remains almost intact, and provides a fascinating backdrop for the town's regular street markets, held in the shadow of the castle. Ludlow is renowned for its shopping, and has several Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as numerous tea-shops, pubs and inns.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

So relaxing, the peaceful location was delightful.. The view from the cottage was superb, and the helpful owners next door told us how to walk to the hill fort nearby. Could not have enjoyed our week more.

The cottage was really lovely a home from home.. It was clean and tidy and everything we needed for our stay. Beautiful countryside views and very peaceful. The sign for the cottage was a little hard to see from the road but that was the only thing. Not far from Ludlow and other places of interest. A co/op store was only a short drive away. Wish we could have stayed longer.

This is the second time we have stayed at this cottage, and won’t be the last.. It’s a pleasant area of Shropshire and it’s location makes it easy to move around to surrounding area, up to at least 50 miles.

This is a place which I would readily recommend.. I think that an individual would need to be particularly pedantic to find fault with the "Old Brye". It's location is ideal for exploring Shropshire and adjoining counties. Shopping facilities, petrol station and the "Squirrel" pub are only two and a half miles away and nearby is the Ludlow Park and Ride, which I would recommend the use of for visits into Ludlow town. The owners, Ray and Jill, were both friendly and helpful and not intrusive. My wife and myself really enjoyed our stay.

Superb 5 star cottage very high standard of furniture and fittings.. Very good view from cottage .owners extremely helpful Nice walks. cottage within three miles of Ludlow This is a working farm with animals about but not a problem as in a large barn close by.

This is a beautiful cottage with everything you could possibly need for a quiet relaxing holiday in peaceful surroundings.. the twin bedroom was a bit small for two adults but as you don't spend much time in it, it doesn't matter. the only other gripe was that the towels were smaller than we are used to but we managed. would definitely go back as everything else is so good including the friendly hosts.

We chose The Old Byre because of its location and because it had 2 bedrooms, both of which were en suite. We were not expecting such a stunning cottage. Everything was perfect; from the underfloor heating to the magnificent gas fire in the living area. The owner of the cottage was most welcoming and informative. The Old Byre is thoroughly recommended for all occasions.

We have been in many five star cottages in England and many Swiss and Austrian Hotels that have been five star. This cottage is beautiful and the standard of the cottage is definitely five star as well as being in a delightful area. Caynham village is only three miles from historic Ludlow. We arrived on Friday to a warm welcome from the owner Ray who with his wife Jill were very friendly and helpful. The cottage is open plan but thoughtfully designed so that it was extremely cosy as well as being thoroughly modern and up to date. All the appliances and furniture were lovely. There were two bedrooms both en suite and very comfortable. The lounge had two reclining sofas with floor to ceiling duplex windows which looked out onto a beautiful vista of fields and trees. There was a dining room and all the furniture was of light oak - it all fitted perfectly with the beamed byre. We found it great being only three miles from Ludlow but right in the countryside. We even heard barn owls at night which sounded as though they were sat on our roof. We would absolutely recommend this cottage for a really relaxing and comforable break. Would return in a heartbeat.

Stayed at this delightful cottage for one week, wish it could have been longer. It's a very well appointed cottage, with both bedrooms having an ensuite each, comfortable beds, TV's in each bedroom, large comfortable lounge with decent size TV, gas fire (didn't need) nice dining room, large kitchen with everything you need. Downstairs toilet, underfloor heating throughout the cottage and lovely patio. The owners of the farm Ray & Jill are a delightful couple, very hospitable and a wealth of knowledge of the area. The cottage is only a short drive into Ludlow, if you're there Friday or Saturday they have a great market, great places to eat and the Ludlow Castle is worth a visit. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone visiting the Shropshire District
