The town is home to a number of historic landmarks, including a bridge built by Thomas Telford in the 18th century, the magnificent Pump Rooms, which once served as baths serving local mineral water, and many other listed buildings from the 17th century. The Applefest in October and Holly & Mistletoe in the winter are just two of the many festivals that bring thousands of people to this thriving town every year. It has a renovated Art Deco theatre that regularly hosts concerts, films, and other events, and it also hosts weekly farmer's markets and marketplaces selling handmade goods.
