Rather unusual cottage, inasmuch that the accommodation is "upside down". The first floor open plan living area is light and spacious, with comfortable seating, a large screen smart TV and an area in the bay window for dining, which has a pleasant view towards the golf course and beach. The adjoining kitchen area is well equipped, although the cooker and microwave took a couple of days and lots of knob turning and button pressing to understand. The instruction manual merely confused us. Downstairs are the two en suite bedrooms, the front room having a double bed and built in storage ,but a limited amount of free space. The rear bedroom is larger, with a double and a single bed BUT no window! Not only does this mean the room is very dark on even the brightest days, but, more importantly, it has no means of ventilation, other than leaving a side door open, onto a narrow alley. Not something one wants to do at night. This meant the room got stuffy at night and wouldn't be acceptable to us during warm weather. Although the beds in this room were very comfortable, the wooden frames project beyond the mattresses at the foot of the beds and the pointed corners caused bruised legs on more than one occasion. The on street parking wasn't too much of a problem, although this might change in the high season. The area is well worth visiting for its beautiful beaches and wealth of historical sites.

My friend and I stayed in Jackson's Cottage for a week. The cottage is VERY well equipped and was spotlessly clean. The layout of the cottage means that you have a wonderful view of the sea from the Bay window upstairs. The parking wasn't a problem as you could park in the bus stop parking bay to unload and then find a place to park the car. We found no problem parking in the street each evening. The pub shown as next door to the cottage is closed and looks as if it has been for a while. We found the cottage quiet throughout our stay. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a great place to stay, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously and hope to return another time. The location is great, so many lovely places to visit nearby, incredible beaches and the people are very friendly. On our first Sunday (we arrived Saturday evening) we were looking for Sunday lunch and found a pub Dunstan Hotel where we had an amazing roast lunch (huge portions) for £12.95!!!! We were so full we couldn't manage a pudding! Fish and Chips is a must as the fish is so fresh, lots of place to find this. All in all we had a wonderful stay at this delightful cottage.

Jacksons Cottage provided us with the perfect base for a weekend get away.. The cottage was clean, well equipped and extremely comfortable. The view to the sea from the bay window is beautiful and provides a great place to sit and watch the world go by. Alnmouth has a good mix of pubs and restaurants, and also good public transport links, we took a bus out to Warkworth and walked back along the coast path , stunning! Wish we had been able to stay longer, we really hope to return!

October 2018
Jackson Cottage is a rather quaint "upside down' house with 2 bedrooms on the ground floor and an open plan kitchen-lounge on the first floor.. The cottage is surprisingly roomy, very comfortable and is well appointed with all the bits and pieces required for a home from home. From the seating in the bay-window one has great views of the street below and to Alnmouth beach beyond. Perhaps trivial to mention but it could be important to those with mobility issues; parking or more accurately the lack of a dedicated parking space could be a problem rather than a mere irritation for some people. This apart, we had a marvellous week at Jackson Cottage and it is a wonderful base for exploring the Northumbrian coast. Well recommended.

October 2018
A comfortable, warm cottage right in the heart of the village, which is what we wanted, it was clean and provided most of what we required.. Liked the upside down effect as lovely view from living room, although bedrooms were on the dark side. A little disappointed that there was no welcome pack, after a long journey a cup of tea is paramount, milk in the fridge but that was all, we also didn't find the hairdryer til the last day! But overall we had a great week and you get what you pay for!!

Very well-equipped cottage in central location.. Close to the beach and on the high street with a lovely view of the sea from the lounge windows.

This cottage is one of the best self catering cottages we have ever stayed in.. It has everything that one needs when on holiday. The attention to detail is second to none. We have stayed here before and I hope we will stay here again. The surrounding area is great for walking but also well served by local transport. The bus stops right outside the door and serves both North and South coastal towns. We visited Boulmer, Warkworth and Alnwick by foot and Craster and Amble by bus. Pubs in the village are welcoming and serve great food. Also they put on quiz nights. A great venue.

We love visiting Alnmouth, and try and plan a short break at least once a year.. We have previously stayed in local B&B's and this is our first time self catering here. Jackson's Cottage is in a perfect location, with its sea views from the upstairs lounge, and its close proximity to local pubs and restaurants. The property is very well equipped, very clean and extremely comfortable - a true home from home (once you get used to going downstairs to bed!!)
Mr Hirons
January 2018
The location of the cottage provides good access to Alnmouth beach, which is enjoyable, scenic, to walk and take in the sea air.. Being close to Alnwick and other tourists sites meant we could have a fun and variable holiday.

December 2017
I stayed here with two friends over Christmas and we had a magical time.. We were greeted by two pleasant surprises: first, that the cottage is more spacious and the decor less dated than the photos suggest (the sofas are plain beige now), and second, a Christmas tree. The village was a great place to spend Christmas: pretty (with great Christmas lights) and peaceful, but with some life to it: the beach was thronged with Boxing Day dog walkers and the shop and deli were open Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. We didn't have a car, so this was particularly welcome, as were the coastal walks on the doorstep and the good bus service along the coast and to Alnwick. I had a couple of niggles with Sykes but none with the cottage: we loved it, and hope to come back.

We stayed for a week at Jacksons Cottage and couldn't fault it. We stayed at the cottage with my son and his family and had two cars. We didn't find parking a problem we always found a parking space. The cottage has a lovely view of the golf course and sea through the upstairs lounge window, it was a lovely place to sit with a brew and watch the world go by. The kitchen is fitted with everything you need including a washer/dryer which my daughter in law made good use of. The beach is a couple of minutes walk away as is the Red Lion pub which serves lovely food and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We are looking to book again for the new year.

Amazing location .. So easy to get around by foot and public transport as we did not take the car. Beautiful village and friendly locals. We did a lot of walking and reached some wonderful destinations. Will definitely go back again.

June 2017
Cottage description stated - in centre of Alynmouth. Should have read in centre of main street in Alynmouth. Bus stop really close - very frequent service from early morning to late evening so engine running etc. Also 3 parking spaces right in front of cottage, again constant coming and going but practically impossible to use for the cottage renters unless very lucky. SO NOISY. Rear bedroom has very little natural light, opaque glass door to rear alley, so no fresh air, ditto for front bedroom as this window opened onto the pavement/street. People stood waiting for buses, talking, on mobiles etc and smoking so smoke would drift upstairs into lounge if windows open there. Operating the electric hob was a nightmare due to safety lock and no brochure to give instructions on how to clear this. Clean, good beds etc. Owner was very helpful when we arrived to find that the key did not appear to be available from the pub. Fortunately she advised where we could locate one. We are a mature couple and had just spent a lovely week in a Sykes cottage in the Yorkshire Dales so we found our experience at Jackson's very disappointing to say the least. We would not want to return to this property. I agree with another persons comments on the lack of access to many of the coastal towns ,many have signs saying - no vehicles past this point. Not helpful if person has mobility problem. There is a lovely fish restaurant in Amble.

A delightful cottage, spotlessly clean with everything we needed, the cottage was very comfortable and cosy, amazing view and a fab shower. Located in a lovely little village, with local shops and pubs, and neighbouring places within easy reach. I would highly recommend this cottage, and would certainly book it again if I was to return to the area. A most enjoyable stay.

The position of the cottage is excellent for a site-seeing holiday in this area. There are plenty of good places to eat or take coffee within walking distance of the cottage. The first floor sitting/dining room is light and airy with good views towards the sea. It is a very pleasant room in which to relax.

April 2015
We fell in love with the cottage and the area in general. The owner was kind enough to provide us with towels because we were travelling by train and packing minimally. The cottage is clean, inviting and warm with great views from the bay window. It is located on a friendly yet peaceful street. I so enjoyed waking up to the sound of birdsong and spending time people - watching from the bay window. A stone's throw from sandy beach and spectacular views. Also cottage is 50yards from a bus stop, which was so handy for us. Would recommend any of the local eateries, but we particularly enjoyed great food from Bistro 23, who were kind enough to let us have 'takeaway' food even though they don't usually serve it. A great holiday.

October 2014
What a nice place to stay, very clean, warm and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped, with everything we used working well..The bedrooms are a good size and the shower is brilliant. The locals are very welcoming. We have tried almost all the eateries and they were all good. The best by far is the Italian- they even do a happy hour early in the evening.Overall, a lovely holiday experience, Thank you Mrs Jackson and Sykes Cottages.

May 2014
We stayed here for the February half-term week with my daughter, her husband and our grand-daughter. As an ' upside down' house it worked extremely well. The bedrooms on the ground floor were clean, with lovely white bed linen and both rooms had an en-suite bathroom/ shower room. We were provided with a cot and a high chair(although the high chair did not have a tray) free of charge. Upstairs the rooms were open plan so the sitting room extended into a lovely modern kitchen. The dining table was positioned near the bay window which allowed us to view the sea. Although there is no allocated parking we did not have a parking outside or very near the house( and we had two cars). Alnmouth is a lovely seaside town with many places offering evening meals.
Mrs Scott
April 2014

February 2014
The cottage was centrally situated in Alnmouth and the bay window had lovely views of the sea. Condition of the cottage was very good and we felt the sitting room and kitchen were roomy and comfortable. We would certainly recommend this place to family and friends.

October 2013
Jackson Cottage offers a very good level of amenity - rooms nicely decorated and furnished, warm and comfortable, all gadgets etc in the kitchen, excellent view to the sea. The house is 'upside down', with the bedrooms on the ground floor so that the sea view can be appreciated from the first floor bay window in the lounge and dining area. Just two of us stayed, and we chose the bedroom at the back because (we suspect) road and street noise might be disturbing in the front bedroom (it depends what you are used to). There are plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes in Alnmouth, and it is a good location for for the coastal sights and walks.
Mrs Rees
September 2013
The cottage was lovely, and the view from the window across the Golf Course and Sea were delightful. Alnmouth is a lovely village, and everyone is friendly, a good base for travelling around.
Mrs Bunce
September 2013
We felt comfortable and at home as soon as we arrived. The beds in particular were the most comfortable we had ever slept in, which is where most rental properties fall down. Overall it was a definite 10 out of 10. Excellent, one to remember.

March 2013
We have just spent a delightful long weekend in Alnmouth and could not have asked for a better place to stay - a delightful cottage situated on a quiet high street with a view of the sea from the first floor living room. The bedrooms both have on-suite bathrooms (one with a small bath and shower and one with a large shower) situated on the ground floor. Very conformable and ideally located for local amenities, local walks (of which there are many - look at the local walking book provided) We got there early and had no problem getting access obtaining the keys from the adjoining pub. Very welcoming local shop within too minutes providing all what you would need and tried two of the local pubs, the Red Lion and the Sun. Both were traditional, open fires and real ale. We did our own cooking in the well presented open plan kitchen but did get a 'take away' fish and chips from the neighboring pub which were good value. The other two pubs also looked nice. If there is any negative it would possibly be that the ground floor rear bedroom (which we did not use) does not have a window but don't let this put you off
Mrs Lewin
October 2012
Alnmouth is a beautiful spot and the view from the sitting room window out over the golf course, beach and sea was wonderful. Walking along the beach on a sunny autumn day was lovely. A brilliant holiday.

October 2011
After a stressful year this was just the sort of relaxing holiday we needed. Great position within the village and plenty of eateries in walking distance (including the Indian takeaway from the pub next door - I recommend the hash-o-bash duck!). Good centre for travelling around Northumberland which we hadn't visited much before. Lots of helpful info in the cottage, too. Whinges were few - it would have been nice to have some outside space but appreciate that's not possible - also the door from the back bedroom was unlocked but led nowhere except to a small muddy area which I shouldn't have trodden in anyway! Re the village itself - we shouldn't have to pay for access to the beach at the end of the day, around 5pm. Surprising how difficult it is to access the beaches (other than alnmouth itself) when your mobility is restricted. Recommended trips - boat from Seahouses to Farne Islands; long round trip Berwick-Jedburgh-Kielder; Rothbury a lovely village despite the memory of the Raoul Moat "shoot-out"; Alnwick; Tynemouth; Bamburgh Castle. There's still more to do so we expect to come again.
Mrs Peel
September 2011
This is the second cottage we have stayed in belonging to Bilton Barns and they are of an exceptional high standard. Jackson Cottage was an ideal base for us to explore the local area and we will certainly be re-booking.

December 2009
We would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage to anyone wishing for comfortable, cosy accommodation with the convenience of shops, post office and local pubs all just a couple of minutes away. Northumberland is one of our favourite parts of the country and this part of the county is stunning. We have stayed in Northumberland many times, returning to one property 7 times which was beautiful but remote and lonely. Alnmouth was somewhere we always wanted to stay and we really enjoyed our holiday there. The only problem we could envisage would be in the Summer with the on-street parking as it was always busy but no problem when we stayed in November.

This holiday cottage is situated in the beautifull vilage of Alnmouth with views acroos the golf course to the sea. It is very well equipped with high quality furnature, crockery, cutlery linnen etc. The two en-suite downstairs bedrooms make it ideal for two couples sharing. The lounge/dinning room on the upper floor has the nice views and a well appointed kitchen. Alnmouth is a delightful holiday destination. It offers a wide range of local attractions, beaches, estuary, bird watchin, golf course resteraunts and many other intersting destinations a short drive away. First class in all respects, we will be back as soon as possible. The trouble is this is a hidden jewel and I want to keep it a secret, but I also want to tell everyone. The cottage was better than the book says, and the beaches in the area are some of the best I have seen.

On arrival we found that the owners had erected a Christmas tree complete with lights and had decorated the property with real holly (it was Xmas). You couldn't really ask for more. It was so good, we've already booked for Xmas in 2006 - 2 weeks this time!
