Hillary & Rodger are a lovely friendly couple who will do everything that they can to ensure that you enjoy a stay in their property.. The cottage is wonderfully cosy and very well equipped. We do a lot of self catering holidays and this is the best equipped place we have stayed. The views are lovely and there is plenty of good walking from the property.
You do not have to travel far if you want a bit more hustle and bustle - Leyburn is 4-5 minutes in the car if you want a larger selection of food and drinks from what is available in the local stores at Middleham.
When you read the visitor book, there are lots of repeat holiday makers and it is easy to see why. The cottage is lovely, there was a pile of logs ready from the log burner and Hillary and Rodger can give you lots of local knowledge and advice.

Accommodation lived up to its billing and it's not hard to see why it's so well reviewed.. Great location in Middleham - local amenities to hand yet quiet and relaxing. The owners are a lovely couple; never intrusive but always on hand for advice and recommendations. We will no doubt return to take in more of the wonderful local walks and villages. Can't think of a better place to unwind and recharge the batteries.

This is our second visit to The Summer Palace and we hope it won't be our last.. It is a lovely, cosy cottage right in the middle of Middleham. The cottage is extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly want or need. Middleham is a good base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales but is also a great place to wander around and enjoy the local area and pubs which serve excellent meals. The owners, Rodger and Hilary are brilliant hosts and are a mine of information of what is available to do/see locally.
I cannot recommend this property and Middleham highly enough.

This cottage has become our holiday default destination! We have been holidaying in the dales for a number of years and the Summer Palace has been the best cottage to date. Small in size but beautifully appointed with everything needed for a restful holiday. Roger and Hilary are perfect hosts, knowledgeable about the area, most importantly where is good for food and there are many choices. To look out of the bedroom window and see swallows swooping over the vegetable garden in the morning is a sight not to be forgotten.

The Summer Palace in Middleham is a very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a peaceful location with scenic views.. Would thoroughly recommend for anybody looking for a relaxing break and within such a very short stroll to the village for essentials and a meal and a drink in one of the 4 pubs! Top marks!

A very pleasant experience staying at The Summer Palace.. The owners are a delight and very helpful for any questions we had. Parking was easy and available with one allocated space. We really enjoyed this quiet location and enjoyed the views of the garden "field" and vegetable garden. We enjoyed seeing pheasants in the garden and the tranquility of the grounds. Middleham has a wonderful choice of pubs and around the town within a mile, and an easy drive to Leyburn. However, there is a general shop within walking distance from the cottage. Middleham is a great place to walk around and explore by foot. Internet is fast and reliable in the cottage, so you can explore on line or use one of the many helpful guide books/maps in the cottage itself, and there are books in the cottage if you left yours at home! Thank you again to our wonderful hosts for making our stay a delight.

Stayed at this lovely cottage in march 2016. Superb cottage set in lovely grounds. The owners are very helpful & informative ( Thanks for the help with our luggage Roger ) A great base to tour the national park areas and a lovely town to stay in. The castle ( home to a Richard the third as a boy) is a 5 minute walk from the cottage as are local pubs and eateries. Enjoyed lunch at the Richard the third hotel. Leyburn ( slightly larger town) is 2 miles away where theres more restaurants and shops. Aysgarth falls is worth a visit. Unfortunately 'The forbidden corner' was closed as it was out of season. The cottage has full amenities ( wi-fi, tv x2 microwave, electric heaters for colder days) and a fantastic log burner fire ( doesnt take long to get toastie with this crackling away). Loved our visit here and will definately go back as our time in the dales was too short.
Thanks again to Roger & Hilary

A superb location. The cottage was very good and the owners were brilliant. We would recommend the cottage to anyone. There were dozens of lovely walks and lovely small villages all within easy distance. If you love horses, Middleham is the place to stay, with 100's of racehorses stabled around the village.

This is an excellent cottage with a grand view over open countryside. Middleham is an interesting village; the early morning sound of race horse hooves adds to the especial charm of the place. Add to that a great castle and a variety of good eating places and you have the recipe for an enjoyable time in the Yorkshire Dales. The owners of the property are very helpful.
