Lavender Cottage

Nice location and a lovely village. Couple of small issues. Outside light would be useful as path is very dark with restricted access to church yard path. Cottage without the open fire would be fairly cold, this fire takes a lot of fuel(non provided). Wood burning stove would be far more efficient, warmer and cheaper to run

Cottage cold, and kitchen floor an absolute eye sore, open fire is if no use whatsoever as only provided us with one small bag of coal,and about 8 sticks of kindling.We stayed for 4 nights ,so only had a fire for one night.Wasnt explained to us just how difficult cottage is to find, have to negotiate through a very thin stile with bags ,and a large dog, grass at front of cottage a public walkway so muddy, and dirty. No parking ..Worst thing for us though was building work going on next door constantly, loud banging, workman's radio blaring, and we were not notified of this,scaffolding up at front and back of building. Was meant to be a much needed, quiet break , Complete waste of money, and time off work. Contacted owner, and Sykes, but no help whatsoever,told us to record the noise from workmen, joke)

There are three items about this cottage that should be made explicit in the published details, as these surprised us when we encountered them: 1.. It is essential to be able to park close to the church to gain access to the cottage, but in the week that we were there, there were times when there weren't any parking spaces available. This would be extremely awkward for anyone who was elderly or disabled. 2. Everything that has to be transported from the parked car to the cottage has to be carried down the path across the churchyard, at the end of which is a very narrow gap in the stone wall which has to be negotiated. This would be impossible for most people with physical disabilities. 3. The narrow grassed area outside the front door of the cottage is not just a 'shared' area, it's actually a public right of way, which is used regularly by walkers who pass by immediately by the front door. This can make it difficult to enjoy sitting outside in this area if the weather is fine and it is restrictive if you have a dog which you want to be outside with you.

Maybe wood supply for cottage .. Even in summer you sometimes need a fire . There were only a few sticks in shes not enough for a long fire . Maybe china cups for tea and coffee mug for coffee ( that’s just my preference)

A beautiful cottage in a perfect location..

Lovely cottage, with fantastic views, the week we stayed was during storm Dennis so extremely windy, so chilly as windows let in a lot of draft took a long time to heat, as others said would prefer a shower, but would definitely stay again.. Lovely village to stay in.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here with lovely walks for my wife and I to take the dog on and a well equipped cottage. The owner was helpful and friendly when we asked if we could have a barbeque with friends given the social distancing issues at the moment. I am fit and able and taking bags to and from the car about 150 yards away and through a narrow stone gate was not an issue but it could be for some. If there was a hook for the hand held shower attachment to allow you to stand up with a shower curtain it would be good. Would I book this again now I have stayed here, YES, I would.

Great location.. Lovely cottage with great open fire. Askrigg is a great location with good pubs, great walking and close to both Hawes and Leyburn. We loved our stay.

Quaint cottage and everything you need.. Comfortable Bed after a days walking and a nice fire to sit by(fire starter and coal provided).3 Pubs nearby within mins and a village store and deli/coffee shop(kings arms welcoming! And village store and deli).Only downside! But didn't spoil for us, is the walk from church to tiny gap to cottage with all shopping/belongings and the drop down the other side.We visited many places and really enjoyed the break away with the sleet and snow.Some places couldnt get because of the terrible floods.Nearest big shopping store is Leyburn.Nice and quiet to recharge and enjoy the scenery! Hopefully we will return in the future. One of the best holidays we've had is here

Lovely cottage situated in a quiet location surrounded by stunning views and scenery..

A really cosy cottage with views and walks on your doorstop.. The village housed some great places to eat, just need to watch the intake of homemade cake from the charming bakery 'Humble Pie'. It was a delightful village, we will definitely be visiting again. Sykes once again provided us with a 'home from home' experience.

This is our second visit to this wonderful little cottage and Sykes always ensures our arrival and stay are smooth and problem-less!

No we had a quiet an peaceful stay ten out of ten..

In the listing, probably worth making point that there is no private garden and the footpath goes through what would otherwise be a front garden - relevant if you have a dog perhaps? But a lovely cottage in a lovely position. Askrigg great centre for walking and an excellent pub!

No mention on the cottage information that you overlooked a graveyard, which is not best ever.. Very difficult parking. Especially on arrival when you had to unload car and walk through church with your belongings (4 trips) Your description of a shared south facing garden was in fact a public footpath so we had countless people walking past the cottage. Bed was extremely uncomfortable, mattress needs replacing. Good location within the Dales. Askrig is a nice town with three very good pubs especially the Kings arms. Cottage very clean and tidy.

A Warm friendly comfortable cottage situated ideally for exploring the area

Access to the cottage was a lot more difficult than advertised.. Stair carpet not the best we've seen. Scatter cushions on settee have seen better days. A net curtain would be nice as passers-by can't resist looking in (the 2 derilect properties next door don't help with this).

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage.. The setting is beautiful with the passage through from the churchyard and the views of the hills in the distance. We had no problems with people passing along the footpath outside the house at all. You can easily access some beautiful meadows (in May-June) around the back of the property and long walks into the Dales. It is an incredible place. The only possibly negative feedback about the house was that the photos of the living room furniture when we stayed did not match what was there when we arrived. Askrigg is a beautiful village and it was a wonderful place to stay.

Third visit to Lavender Cottage, another great week in Askrigg and the surrounding area.. Booking with Sykes cottages was simple with no hassle. The cottage was just what we expected with all the facilities required being available plus great views.

Stated here for a week recently. The cottage has been refurbished nicely and sympathetically with its age. It is well equiped. However as a previous review has stated it does have negative points too. The distance from parking (whilst not vast) and the tricky access with luggage and belongings is a pain. Definitely not one for anyone with mobility issues. The path directly outside the cottages has become covered in grass would be difficult to avoid taking in wet/mud in bad weather. Would benefit from a new outside door mat as it is very worn. There is no carpet or rugs downstairs. From photos there obviously used to be, presume it was removed as damaged, but stone floor is cold and would be slippy if gets wet. Does need at least a rug. Coal fire is nice and needed as cottage gets quite chilly due to no double glazing and there are gaps in the door panels that the wind whistles through. I think it would get cold in winter. Be aware there is a bath with a hand held shower only. Makes hair washing difficult and again no good for mobility problems. Lots of hot water though. Cottage very small so make sure you don't want lots of personal space! Stairs are very steep. Also missed not having a bit of garden to sit out in for a cuppa. Amazing views from windows at the front though.

The service we received from Sykes was excellent.. Very smooth booking and money transfer. Also appreciated the good information about the key safe and contact details of the owner which we had well before departure. We had a lovely holiday at Lavender cottage and the location was outstanding. Fantastic views and the village was a great base for touring around. Also had a great pub, the Crown, deli, general store and tea shop. Our only criticism was that the bare stone floor downstairs would have been so much nicer with a rug. We were lucky while we were there as the weather was warm, but if it was cold it would have been very chilly on the feet. The open fire was lovely, there was no coal left for us but we did find some. Overall a great holiday in a beautiful location. Thank you.

The cottage was ideal for the two of us, the village was the perfect place to relax, three real ale pubs within easy walking distance.. Good walking from the door step with the Yorkshire three peaks a 45 min drive away. Would highly recommend.

The cottage is in a beautiful spot, but I feel there should be a warning for disabled/elderly people as access not easy, and parking some distance away and not always available.. P.S. There was no coal or wood left for me !

The cottage although more than adaquate in terms of equipment has certain down sides. It is reached via a very narrow ginnel over the churchyard and it is quite a feat to get luggage in. You can go the long way via the road and back entrance but there is no parking at this point and you are not told this entrance exists until you work it out after you have struggled. The stairs are very narrow and steep so not for anyone with any mobility issues. There is a very narrow bathroom with on shower. The biggest issue with this cottage is lack of parking. We found church parking full most days whatever time we returned, likewise when we arrived. Nearest car park is half a mile uphill at the other end of the village. Village centre crammed with cars especially on weekends.

Lavender cottage is compact and cosy.. Beautiful views of the Dales out of the front. The cottage is well maintained and cleaned well. You park by the church wall and walk through the church yard to find the cottages. It has superfast broadband which is better than I have at home. We took our Jack Russell, there were plenty of footpaths around the area. My only personal issue is I wish it had a proper shower rather than the mixer shower in the bath. Our trip was very peaceful and relaxing I would definitely be happy to stay at the cottage again.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Askrigg staying at Lavender cottage. The cottage is well maintained to a high standard with everything you need with stunning views over the Dales. The fire is a great feature with a complimentary bag of coal and kindle provided. The bed is comfortable which after a day of walking is just what you need. The only thing I would have liked is a shower rather than bath but it was not a major issue. I would highly recommend this cottage.

The village pubs(3 in total) all served excellent food and good drinks(wine and beer)

We had a fantastic one week stay at the Lavender cottage, the location was perfect for a relaxing get away with stunning views across the Dales.. The cottage had all we needed.

Lavender Cottage is very clean and the abundance of hot water is great! A genuine Dale's cottage in a quiet location - exactly what we wanted.

The location of Lavender Cottage is excellent for exploring this part of Yorkshire.To experience village life in this wonderful setting was a privilege. We loved Lavender cottage.

This cottage is ideally placed for exploring Wensleydale and the surrounding areas either by car or on foot. It is just off the centre of the village of Askrigg which is a typical Dales village. To get to the cottage, you have to walk through the church yard and go through a rather narrow gap in a wall. The cottage is the second in a block of six terraced ones. It is small - just right for a couple and a small dog. The front door opens straight into the living room with a small kitchen/dining area at the back. Upstairs is a double bedroom and a small bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped and the sofa is really comfortable. The views from both the living room and bedroom are good. However, a couple of things to be aware of. Firstly, the front is described as being a south facing communal garden. It is more like a public footpath. There is a smallish children's play park at the end of the terrace so children are continually running to and from this area right past all the cottages. Also, visitors continually walk past having walked through the church yard, wanting to see where the gap in the wall leads to. Most also liked to look through the window to see what's inside. Additionally, there is no dedicated parking space and as Askrigg is a popular place, parking is very much a problem. What we were very surprised to read on reading the information file left at this cottage was that the electric meter was read before arrival and after departure. If more than £10 had been used, you would be charged. Never come across this before. The wall lights behind the sofa didn't work - something the previous couple had noticed. Lighting had to come from the TV and the lights under the kitchen units. It would be nice if a shower curtain could be put up to save getting water everywhere when using the hand held shower. We never found the picnic hamper and couldn't use the patio set as they were on the wall in the coal outhouse which was dirty as you can imagine. Also, although the living room window has shutters instead of curtain, whilst a nice touch, left the window open to passers by to look in. A net halfway up would stop that yet still affording the view of the hills opposite. There is a mobile chippy on a Wednesday evening about 6ish which is highly popular and one which can be recommended. Fish is a really good size which is a bonus. The deli opposite the church does a divine home made quiche which is served in a good sized serving - again, thoroughly recommended. We have explored the North Yorkshire Dales over many years. It is one of the most beautiful parts of England. Askrigg is a lovely little village which is very popular as there are many holiday lets there. We would stay at Lavendar Cottage again, especially as you can take your dog, but not during school holidays.

This cottage had everything needed for our week in Wensleydale. With it not being on the roadside, it certainly provided a very quiet night's sleep with no traffic noise. A few villagers using the footpath past the door during the evening also no problem. There is no dedicated car parking but we soon got used to finding a space at the right time outside the church. So a perfectly adequate accommodation with no complaints from us. Thanks.

The cottage was ideally situated in a very peaceful location adjacent to the church in the centre of the village of Askrigg. There were numerous short walks (3-4 miles) on the doorstep, most including an opportunity for a Labrador to have a paddle. There were three pubs in the village offering local beers and lovely meals with a shop and deli across the road for provisions.

It was a home from home, everything was perfect. There was lots of hot water for bathing and a very comfortable bed. Village amenities were great and very friendly locals. A big plus was the sun shone every day!

A wonderful little cottage, very clean, well equipped with a lovely comfortable bed.The village has 3 pubs a village shop and a deli which sells home made take a way meals. The locals make you feel very welcome. Askrigg is a gateway to many scenic walks and drives and within easy reach of the Lakes.

It was an ideal cottage to use as a base to do walks from the front door and also explore the Yorkshire Dales by car . Will use the cottage again.

We found Lavender Cottage the ideal base for our relaxing week. Its location is just right for exploring the area. The village itself has plenty of amenities with three nice pubs and a great bakery and deli. Overall great.

The cottage was beautiful with lots of lovely finishing touches and wonderful views The village itself was charming with all 3 pubs offering quality home cooked food and the added bonus of being dog friendly. All in all we had a wonderful weeks holiday and visited lots of places by car. We fell in love with Yorkshire and will definitely be back!

The owner had put Christmas touches to the cottage, which was particulaurly lovely and added to the cosy atmosphere of the cottage. The location of the cottage is excellent for local amenities and central for touring the North Yorkshire area.

Excellent location for good walks. The White Hart in Hawes sells the finest pint of Theakstons in Yorkshire does very good food.

A good quality cottage. Humble Pie was an outstanding source of cooked meals to eat at home.

Askridge is a very relaxing friendly place in an excellent location. Makes a really good holiday. Will definitely recommend it to others.

Having such a beautiful cottage in such a wonderful location to come home to at the end of each day really made the holiday so special. We managed do many superb walks straight from the cottage too.

Lovely cottage area.

The cosy feel of the place, and the fire. The view. The comfortable bed. A good base for walking. Kings Arms is a good pub, character-wise and for food and drink - including veggie food. Local shops very good.

The village location of the cottage is very attractive and its central position means that most places of interest were within 1 hours drive. The cottage had a file of information on the Dalesand was an excellent way of allowing guests to see where other vistors had enjoyed going.

The holiday was excellent and the cottage is in a good location.

Ability to access local walks directly from the cottage appreciated. Good selection of eating places in Askrigg. Not using the car is always a bonus to us. Particularly good is The Rowan Tree. Excellent service, food and value. We had awful weather initially but it did mean that the waterfalls were particularly impressive.

Good location - in heart of village but with good outlook at front of house. Excellent for walking.
