• "Just had 4 lovely days at Black Horse cottage."

  A beautifully decorated cottage , home from home in a charming village. Thoughtful welcome pack left with delicious homemade muffins & applejuice. Extremely comfortable & very relaxing especially with the log fire lit at nighttime. Lovely long walks around Swainby with beautiful villages in easy car distance. We had a delicious meal at the Golden Lion in Osthmotherley and lovely days out in York , Whitby & SaltBurn. Owners Jayne & Gary quickly responded to messages we sent. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this beautiful property.

• "Had a fabulous stay."

  The cottage is really lovely and cosy and great to have the outside space for the dogs. Swainby is a lovely village to visit too. Great walks. Would recommend and would stay again. It is advertised as having a washing machine which it doesn't incase this is an issue for anyone.

• "We have just spent a lovely few days at Black Horse Cottage during February Half Term."

  There was plenty of room for two adults, two teenage girls and our small dog. The kitchen is on the small size but it was well equipped and the welcome pack on arrival, including a home made lemon cake, was a thoughtful touch. The village was very quiet and we had both drinks and a meal at the local pub. Great location for and lots to do in the area - Richmond, Saltburn, Yarm. A very comfortable and relaxing few days away.

• "It was lovely to arrive to find a Christmas wreath on door and the house decorated."

  Lovely cosy lounge and big dining room - very small kitchen but we knew that. Loved the open fire and modern decor. The issue we had was with the heating which was meant to be on a timer but frequently didn't work - not good being cold over Christmas. I felt sorry for the owners too as they did try and sort. If the heating was sorted would happily stay again.

  So sorry for the inconvenience. We did have a few issues with the heating but now resolved. We would love to host you again. Property Owner

  The kitchen area is very small, but that is the only downside.

• "I found the property to be very nice."

  The cottage was generally clean although found cobwebs around the cottage especially in shower cubicle.Did not find any Wine/Beer glasses until day of leaving as were hidden away in a painted wall cupboard in dining room which I did not feel I should open as other cupboards and drawers in that room were full of family items, / linen / Xmas Decs ect. Feel kitchen although advertised as fully equipped sadly lacking . Could do with a small microwave and Freezer . As only has a Fridge And Oven. There is also No dishwasher . Very tight on pots as only had 3 cereal Bowls . Garden and Back Yard would benefit from some TLC Sadly the Wi-Fi was non existent on last 2 days of my stay so TV was also very limited.

  So sorry to hear of your issues, however our numbers are available for any issues and we always aim to put things right where possible (when told at the time). The welcome pack states where to find the glasses, so it is unfortunate that you didn't find them. The cupboards are full of items used in the cottage such as extra bedding and towels. The kitchen is advertised as small and it is just that...there is no space for a dishwasher or microwave or we would have provided one. We do tend to find that most people make adequate use of the kitchen or eat out in the local pubs. The wifi is always working/in use as we need it for work so yours probably just needed to be turned on/off again - sadly you could have text or called and we would have advised you. We will check the pots and glasses and replenish as required. Property Owner

• "What a gem!"

  The owners, Jayne and Gary, have restored this little cottage to the highest imaginable standard. As soon as you walk into the living room through the funny little hallway you get that, 'this is going to be nice' feeling. The cottage was spotlessly clean and almost everything we needed was there. There were a handful of items that would would have enhanced our stay if they had been available and we've advised Jayne and Gary of these but it did not detract our enjoyment of our stay. The living room is exceptionally comfortable and with the fire lit and a G&T in your hand, there's no better place to be on a chilly spring evening. We particularly liked the separate dining room, a rare find these days. The kitchen is small and storage space is limited. The fridge is large but there's no ice box, so keep your bottle of gin in there! The induction hob is excellent and the oven cooks evenly. There's also plenty of cutlery. Upstairs the double bed is incredibly comfortable with a lovely snuggly duvet. The towels provided are lovely and thick and there are plenty of toiletries provided. If, like me, you're over 6ft, watch your head on the beams and the low doors. On the first night having drawn the front bedroom curtains I turned round and found myself on the floor! There are plenty of walks in the area and a particularly good circular walk from the cottage which we've left details of. If you're eating out, we really recommend The Black Horse pub in the village. Everyone is very friendly and the food is excellent. Whoever came up with the idea of a pork and black pudding burger is a genius! Finally, if you look after paint work on your car you might want to consider covering it while parked outside the cottage. Next door have ten bird feeders hanging up and the birds queue up in the trees above and pebbledash your pride and joy!

• "A charming and well equipped cottage, excellent location for visiting the area."

  Slightly chilly until the heating kicked in but a few more logs for the open fire would solve that. The Blacksmiths Arms nearby was really convenient and great for pub food, their 'Parmo' was excellent.

  Nice decor with good standard of furnishings. Kitchen compact but has most things Inc. coffee machine. Freezer compartment would be useful for summer drinks but appreciate space is limited.

• "Black Horse Cottage provided us with a totally perfect break."

  Beautifully presented throughout everything feels new and clean. The cottage is clearly centuries old full of character and original beamed ceilings. The location is in close proximity to picturesque and historic walking routes to suit all capabilities. There were three of us in our party one being our dog Duggie, who enjoyed the open fire as much as we did. We were all made to feel very welcome by the owners who had left us a comprehensive welcome pack in the separate dining room. Plenty of space upstairs with pleasant views across the well stocked cottage garden. But watch your head on the low beams a one off knock is a kind reminder that you are staying in a centuries old cottage and common experience for me. The WiFi is excellent and there is a smart TV so no shortage of entertainment if needed. The rear court yard is large, enclosed and feels safe and secure. Swainby village and the cottage could not be more peaceful and I can confidently recommend it. We look forward to staying there again soon.
