Description

Situated in the picturesque seaside village of St Margaret's Bay, Rockmount has stunning views, from its first floor, over the treetops to the sea and beyond, and is only a 2 minute drive to the beach.  The star attraction is the lookout, situated between the two bedrooms: cosy and perfect for sea- or star-gazing depending on the time of day.  On a clear day you can see all the way across the English Channel! This holiday home is perfect for family holidays with two large bedrooms - one of them a family room with a double and a single bed - and there is also a z-bed available for an additional child.  There is a family bathroom and a ground floor shower room; utility room for sandy beach bits; a large, comfortable sitting room; and a separate dining room and kitchen.  There is a garden to the rear and a terraced area with ratan furniture to the front, with great views - perfect for soaking up the sun or for alfresco dining.  There is local shopping under a mile away in St Margaret's at Cliffe and there are two cafes within walking distance at the end of the road.  There is a meandering road down to the shingle beach, with cups of tea and ice cream to be had from the kiosk, beautiful views, water-sports and plenty of rock pools to explore.  Don't forget The Coastguard, a seaside pub and restaurant, famed for being Britain's nearest pub to France!  Shop: 0.9 miles  Pub: 0.9 miles  Coast: 0.9 miles

Out and About:

Set on the 160 mile Saxon Shore Way, St Margaret’s Bay’s shingle beach offers a bit of peace and quiet in the heart of White Cliffs Country.  Interesting fact: St Margaret's is often the starting point for cross-channel swimmers. A quick stroll up onto the cliff-top may just tempt you on to the 4.7 mile St Margaret's Bay walk with glorious views and an excuse to visit the historic South Foreland Lighthouse. The Victorian lighthouse is conserved by the National Trust and its concrete cross-channel gun positions are still visible in the undergrowth. There are several marked circular footpaths to explore all with panoramic views.  Stand atop the iconic White Cliffs and then pop down to Dover Castle - a great day out, with its secret wartime tunnels.  Just along the coast road you will find Walmer Castle and Gardens and the seaside town of Deal.  Canterbury is only a 30 minute drive and has lots of shops and restaurants and it famous Cathedral to explore.

Reviews

Very well appointed One or two impending maintenance issues - the porch roof, some tiles missing on main roof, lawn needed mowing Great location The drive to the front door is very steep

Mr W,

Lovely property very clean and well equipped. Watching the sun rise from the viewing room was beautiful. So I would imagine in the summer the sunset would be amazing.

Mrs M,

We were lucky enough to spend two wonderful weeks at Rockmount. It is a beautiful and homely, comfortable house. The views are stunning and walking the dogs was very easy. Would gladly recommend anyone to stay here
