Area The village of Hamstreet lies 6 miles south of Ashford on the A road between Ashford and Hastings. Until the coming of the railway in 1853, Hamstreet was just a hamlet known as ‘Ham’ based around the village centre which contains many buildings in the traditional Kentish weatherboard style. Today, the village is known for offering a selection of independent shops, cafés, a convenience store, a pub and an Indian restaurant. Surrounding the village are two large areas of public woodland, namely Ham Street Woods and Orlestone Forest, which are both regarded as Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Nearby, the villages of Appledore, Ivychurch and Kingsnorth offers a wealth of history and culture, along with some fascinating attractions.
Region Kent is affectionately known as the Garden of England. Its history and heritage provide the region with a rich array of sightseeing possibilities, while the stunning choice of Blue Flag beaches offer the chance to enjoy the beautiful coastline.
