Though the village's wooded areas and the River Hart give it a lot of charm, the village's main claim to fame is the abundance of antique shops that line its main street. The Waggon and Horses and The Cricketers, two nearby pubs, are great options for those nights when you don't feel like cooking. Basing House, a magnificent Tudor castle turned museum, is located in Basingstoke, and it regularly hosts community events. The nearby city of Reading  is home to the sweeping mediaeval ruins of Reading Abbey and the Museum of English Rural Life; the village's close proximity makes it a convenient base of operations for festivalgoers heading to the annual Reading Music Festival.
