Rye itself offers restaurants, art galleries and many independent shops perfect for an afternoon stroll and keen walkers can enjoy following the canal path all the way to the pretty coastal town of Hythe, or use it to join up with other local footpaths that criss cross the Kent and Sussex countryside. For the perfect summer s day, head 4.5 miles to the sandy beach at Camber Sands. The front door of this cottage opens into a spacious hallway with room for dropping off shoes and buckets and spades.
