Full Sutton is a quiet village, 2 miles east of the village of Stamford Bridge, which was a fording point over the River Derwent for a Roman settlement, and well known as the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066, which marked the end of the Viking era in Britain.

There are many nearby Wolds market towns, Malton (12 miles), Beverley (25 miles) and Driffield (20 miles) which hold regular street markets, and have a wide variety of shops and restaurants, all providing excellent locally based cuisine, and the cathedral city of York is 10 miles. The unspoilt coastal resort of Filey is 35 miles with open beaches and the nearby RSPB nature reserve at Bempton.
