Lovely holiday 'cottage'.. Large inside and out with excellent facilities. Nicely positioned in rural area off fairly busy road, which isn't a problem. The kitchen could do with more storage cabinets and a new hob, existing one works ok but it's difficult to understand the controls! If I was being picky, the double bed in the downstairs bedroom could do with a new mattress - not the most comfortable. Would highly recommend this property.

We had a lovely week at Owl Cottage.. It is very spacious and comfortable with a very large garden which my 2 year old grandson loved. He also loved the huge windows which gave him great views of the tractors going by. We are nature lovers who enjoy walking and found lots of good places to walk close by. Spurn Point is definitely worth a visit with a lovey beach and great views. There were swallows nesting in the open garage which we really enjoyed watching flying in and out whilst sat outside. Sadly didn't see any owls though. The cottage had most things we needed apart from a bread knife and the only large cutting knife had the tip missing but theses are only minor niggles. We would definitely visit again and recommend to family and friends.

Owl cottage was lovely exceeded our expectations it was relaxing and was set in a beautiful location, ideal for sitting outside with a cuppa or beer/wine! !,at dusk one night also saw the owl!!, due to Covid was unable to do all we planned but the cottage was great for just chilling reading and Mrs B's knitting, managed to go to Withernsea for a day trip also a day in Hull shopping and an evening walk in Scarborough with a fish supper, will be booking again next year, can't wait to return!!...

I think the posting should stipulate that the cottage is near a main road so there is some traffic noise.. Lack of toilet roll holders in both bathrooms. The mattress downstairs was not very comfy and resulted in a lack of sleep for my wife for the first few nights. Perhaps they need changing in both bedrooms? playing musical beds was fun!

This was the best cottage we have ever rented.. It is modern, extremely clean and very well equipped. Was also very easy to find and had lots of extra things we didn't expect. Lots of information on local attractions and places to eat. Would definitely go there again if in that area.

The location for us was ideal, as we have family in Hedon.. It gives easy access to Beverly, (market days Wednesday and Saturday), and Hull, (check out The Deep and the museums). We were able to have an extended family bbq afternoon with 11 people because of the ample space, lots of crockery etc. an excellent kitchen, a big bbq and outside furniture for all of us. It has space for the children to run around and play football, although there was fun retrieving the ball from the ditch several times! Owl cottage is off the road; I read a comment about the traffic, but we found no problem with noise. Yes, when you are sat outside you can hear everything, but other than short commuter times, this was the occasional tractor and empty buses. The accommodation is disabled friendly but not built for the disabled, (it doesn’t claim to be either), but if you make the owners aware they will provide a seat for the downstairs wet room shower, (which by the way, was excellent), and they provide a movable suction grip, which can be used to help the infirm in the bathroom. There are one or two minor things able bodied people don’t always see, but I have pointed them out to the owners. If you have anyone partially sighted the three small steps for the area outside the back door can be difficult to distinguish. However, don’t let this put you off. My parents are 88 & 82 and they loved the place and found it very friendly for the unsure on foot. My severely autistic nephew loved the freedom of the paddock to kick his ball around, and the two resident adults and five family members who visited at various times all enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and being able to sit out and watch the buzzards and kites.

This is the first time we have booked with Sykes Cottages, this was a last minute booking in an area we have visited many times before (most recently May 18) the accommodation was very clean and well presented.. We booked the accommodation for the Mother in Laws 73rd Birthday. There was those little extras that the owner had provided that were really appreciated, the welcome pack, the greetings card welcoming the group, a selection of reusable bags for life to do any shopping with and the local paper, which we have never had anywhere else before. We even had a visit from an owl trust volunteer to check the owl box in the barn,(which we did not mind) an owl was spotted several times throughout our stay flying around the property. We can't wait to get back to the area.

Unfortunately due to us both contracting a Virus, we were unable to get to the Owl Cottage for our arranged holiday.. We have however spent a holiday at Owl Cottage before, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Perhaps we will try again next year.

We think this is our 5th visit and it is still great.. Only criticism is size of freezer, still too small for a property that sleeps 6. Have already booked for September.

The cottage was spotlessly clean warm and comfortable.. It catered for 6 people ranging in age from 8 months to 65 years. The owners were very welcoming with a welcome card and a selection of teas, coffees, cookies etc. waiting for us on arrival. We would definitely go back to Owl Cottage again.

There was an unexpected pleasure in finding owls and swallows nesting in the barn.. The one downside was the noise from the adjacent minor road from about 5am, we were surprised at the volume of traffic using the road.

Beautiful cottage which was a delight to return to each evening.. Made extra special by the barn owls nesting in the open sided garage at the rear of the property.

We had a wonderful time exploring the East Riding of Yorkshire. The property was beautiful and we were sad to leave. It was so relaxing being in such a beautiful quiet spot with no internet to bother us. I would definitely stay there again if I was in the area. The floor to ceiling windows at the front of the house gave a great view and created a lovely open feeling with lots of light.

Absolutely wonderful cottage and loved the fact that it is on its own in a field! Beautiful surroundings but still close to the village for amenities. The cottage is very well thought out and has everything you need or want!

We loved the spaciousness and setting of the property allowing privacy, while being close to various places of interest. The cottage had every amenity necessary to our comfort and enjoyment. The owners helpful as needed. This was our third stay at Owl cottage and we were not disappointed.

The cottage is a super base from which to explore the area. It is very well presented, spacious, homely and well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay there again if we were visiting that beautiful area of Yorkshire again.

March 2014
The cottage was very spacious and well appointed. The location was great for us, being convenient for local towns but secluded in open countryside. The kids loved to see the bunnies running around the lawns at night, unfortunately we didn't encounter the owls. Would highly recommend Owl Cottage and we will certainly be back.

October 2013
Myself, husband and 3 children stayed at the property for Xmas and New Year week 2012. We chose the property as we are originally from the area and we were spending Xmas with family and friends, so it was in a great location. The overall property is spacious and great for family gatherings however it was the attention to detail which we were disappointed with. The kitchen was poorly equipped, with not enough fridge/freezer space and the general kitchen equipment was of a poor standard. The bed in the downstairs bedroom was extremely uncomfortable. Items such as bath towels and bath mats were of a poor quality with no extras for changes during the time we were there. The cleaners came in at the end of the first week but no bedding was changed. Living abroad and therefore having used many rental properties in the area, we found this was disappointing compared to the lively places we have stayed previously. With a bit of money invested in the smaller details this property could be an excellent place to stay.

The isolation of the cottage suited us. The quality of the building and its furnishings were great.
Mrs Brown
August 2013
Owl Cottage was spacious and clean and welcoming. It was good having 2 bathrooms for 4 adults. There was continuous hot water for bathing/showering and the dishwasher was efficient. The TV was a good size and there was a thoughtful supply of games to play. The garden was trim and well cared for and will be lovely when it has matured in a few years time. We particularly liked the remoteness of the cottage as we had no near neighbours to worry about.

This was a second stay at Owl Cottage and we enjoyed it tremendously. The owner's thoughtfulness in supplying a welcome pack and card was greatly appreciated. We were delighted with our stay.

Excellent service, nice touch with the biscuits and provisions left for us. The home is beautifully presented and very spacious. The grounds gave lots of space for the kids to run around. We were able to spend a great weekend going out to the stunning spurn point, and 'The Deep' in Hull.

The cottage and the setting were all that was promised. The downstairs en suite particularly good owing to lack of mobility. The welcome card and pack both unexpected and heart-warming. We would certainly go there again.

Comfortable property with nothing lacking. Surrounded by fields and good sunsets. Key in a keysafe meant the freedom to arrive late if required. Owners on hand in nearby farm but unobtrusive.

This cottage was ideal for myself and my party because there is ample parking, lots of seating and it as got nothing surrounding it so we were able to laught and talk till the small hours without distubing anyone. Its also close to Hull for those who enjoy shopping. The cottage is of a high standard and very welcoming.
