Stayed here with family of 3 adults, 2 children and 3 dogs for a week. It is an absolute stunning place to stay and had more than enough room for us all, the cottage is spacious, well appointed and I had the best nights sleep I’ve had in years, the beds are that good. Whilst you could easily spend your time here never leaving the front door, the walks just around the farm area are amazing and you see different things every time, there’s plenty to do around the area with trips to High Force and Hamsterley Forest highly recommended. The hosts at the cottage are so friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the sights in it. The children were thrilled to see the sheep being brought onto the farm. Added bonuses are the large field for the dogs to play in and the playground for the children. Honestly, do yourselves a huge favour and recharge your batteries here!!

It was brilliant the cottage was just what we expected and very cosy.. The owners were lovely and very friendly. The beds were very comfy and the rooms were lovely and clean. Having a few bathrooms was very convenient since there was a few of us. The cottage is spacious which we needed for our dog luna who runs around quite alot with her being a very lively young dog. She loved the field across from the cottage which we could use for her exercise and toilet duties. We would definitely rebook next year but stay for a whole week this time cannot wait until we go again it was well worth the money we paid.

The host was extremely attentive and helpful throughout the week and his family were really nice to talk to.. We couldn’t have asked for a better first little holiday for our 9 month old baby boy. He absolutely loved meeting all the animals on the farm and playing in the playground. Thank you so much, John and the family.

The Cote is a lovely cottage in a great location, situated in easy reach of some great places to visit.. The cottage is warm and comfortable and well equipped. The farm owners are friendly and helpful, and being in a working farm didn’t create any issues for us staying with our three dogs - the nearby secure exercise field was much appreciated! We had a lovely week and would happily return to the cottage.

This’ cottage is an idyllic get away, the views are exceptional.. The cottage itself was spotless and has everything you need. The beds are comfortable, showers hot with great pressure. John and his father Ken are genial hosts. The spring water supply is not suitable for drinking and there is a bottle of water supplied, but it may be an idea to take a supply if you don’t want to go shopping! The field for exercising your pets is just across the farm track so is convenient. This cottage is somewhere I would highly recommend.

We thought The Cote was an ideal holiday cottage in a great location.. The owners were very friendly and on hand to help if needed. Our two dogs enjoyed the field and the countryside walks. We will definitely return at some time as we would like to visit more of the local attractions.
Mr Briggs, September 2019
August 2019
As the details explain this is a working farm so control has to be exercised over any dogs taken.. The exercise field is a great place for dogs to run in but if we are to clear up after them then the grass needs to be kept shorter. Also there is no secure ground attached to the house, to get access to the field you have to cross a narrow lane on a sharp corner into the farmyard.
Mr Bilbie, August 2019
August 2019
The Cote is a beautiful cottage.. The pictures dont do it justice. This is a very spacious cottage. A dedicated field and play park right out side the cottage provides a safe place to play. Mark and Sarah are wonderful hosts. There is plenty to see and so much to do in and around Staindrop. From an Ancient woodland which had so much to offer to walks along the yorkshire moors, There were castles to see and a beautiful museum. There is something to suite everyone budget. We will gback to The Cote

This is a lovely cottage set in a beautiful location.. Very well equipped. Plenty to see and do around the area. Co.Durham is a stunning county and Durham city itself is also beautiful. I would return to this holiday cottage, no question.

Fantastic cottage located in a beautiful location.. The owners go above and beyond to ensure your stay is home from home providing everything you can think of. The cottage is furnished to a high standard offering off road parking and even a large, secure field which our dog absolutely loved. The location itself is perfect for exploring the local attractions (Barnard Castle, Raby Castle and Hamsterley Forest to name a few). We are a mature couple and adored this cottage but it would equally lend itself to families (large fantastic play area in field in front of the cottage). We would definitely recommend this cottage!

Lovely warm cottage for a very cold and snowy weekend.. Owners rang beforehand to check that we had suitable vehicles for getting down the icy car track. Left a toboggan out for us too. Great fun playing on Sunday morning. Stayed before and would stay again

We had booked a cottage through a different company and this became unavailable at late notice.. After little panic and some searching we found The Cote advertised through Sykes, but were worried that it wasn't going to be a nice as the one previously booked. How wrong we were!! It was just superb! The photos on the website really do not do it any justice at all! The cottage was clean, very comfortable and had everything in it to make it feel like home from home. The kitchen/diner was well-equipped, bright and spacious. The lounge was comfortable and still had Christmas decorations in place which was an added surprise (as we had cleared ours away early at home to go on holiday). There were lovely views from the windows. The bed was very comfortable. There was an added benefit of a separate shower room and bathroom. There was a laundry area and downstairs toilet too. The thing that we noticed more than anything was how quiet it was inside. There was a violent storm outside on one night of our stay but we hardly heard anything from inside the cottage. We heard on the local news the next morning that most properties in the area had lost power, but that didn't affect the cottage so it must have been on a different supply. The cottage is lovely and warm which was great to go into as the weather was cold (expected in December/January). In fact we had to turn the thermostats down as it was a little too warm. With regards to the surrounding area, we absolutely fell in love with Staindrop, especially with the beautiful Christmas decorations through the village. We had a walk through the nearby Hamsterley Forest which is highly recommended (the tea room served delicious Turkey broth which was very welcome after getting rather wet and cold). We visited the coast (Whitby/Sandsend) which was about 1.5 hours away, but a favourite place. We also were able to spend time with both our children who are at University in Newcastle (about an hour away). The farm itself was lovely, and the owners so helpful and friendly. We will definitely be booking again!

We had a lovely stay at The Cote while attending a wedding at the nearby Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle.. We were travelling with a baby and the cottage was well equipped with a high hair, playpen/travel cot, stair gates and a microwave. Our little one enjoyed visiting the sheep and cows in the morning and saying hello to the farm cats. The welcome parcel of milk, tea, bottled water (tap water requires boiling before use) was very thoughtful. We also had a nice chat each morning with the farmer - so all in all a great experience.

We booked through Sykes Cottages, whose properties we've used very successfully before. The Cote did not disappoint, the property was clean, cosy and well appointed: two great bathrooms with plenty of hot water plus a cloakroom/utility room, a spacious sitting room with three sofas - one each for me and my two girlfriends to crash out on at the end of a strenuous day out! The beds were very comfy - I slept in the room with adult sized bunks and got a really great night's rest every night. Good wifi service which we used extensively. Well equipped kitchen with lovely views. We enjoyed meeting the owners and chatting to them - thanks to them for showing us their own lovely garden :-) I would recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable and modern home-from-home in the area - there's plenty to see and do there.

The Cote is a lovely property, spacious, well equipped and comfortable - the owners were very welcoming and the house was a great home from home for myself and my two friends.. Great to have two bathrooms and a cloakroom when you're with friends sharing and all trying to get out in the morning! The location was good and easy to find.

We stayed in the Côte for 3 weks whilst we searched for a property to purchase. The accommodation was excellent with 3 bathroom a laundry room. We made use of the extra bedrooms when oursons came for a weekend. Having lived in the area some 15 years ago we knew local attractions etc. One new attraction at Shildon the National Railway Museum is free and we'll worth a visit. The owners were helpful without being intrusive. We would recommend this Cottage to anybody looking for a excellent well equipped Cottage in wonderful surroundings.

The Cote is an attractive stone building set on a farm with great views out of all windows. The facilities are of high standard with the water from all taps being extremely hot, the underfloor heating also provides you with nice warm feet after a day out in the country, especially during the winter! The kitchen is well proportioned with ample cutlery and crockery. The wooden beams give it a nice "oldy" feel whilst still appearing quite modern. Beds are very comfortable and warm.
