We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Alwent Mill.. The cottage was very comfortable and clean, the owner Libby was very friendly and although the cottage was next to her home she was not intrusive. The location was ideal with plenty of places to visit and see. The gardens of the property are lovely with a stream at the bottom of the garden. We would definitely recommend staying at Alwent Mill and would love to stop here again when visiting the area.

Our 2nd visit to this cosy, peaceful cottage in a wonderful, interesting setting.. We had everything we needed. Even in January there are so many places to visit, over the moors to Alston or Reeth, Bowes Museum or the Royal Navy Museum at Hartlepool.

The cottage patio had lovely views of the garden and the beds where very comfortable.. The shower was very small with a high step in, there was a small ice box in very, very tiny fridge. Unusual having a wardrobe in the living room as a cleaning storage unit. Not sure why I picked this cottage as normally we like modern cottages!!!

The three nights that we recently spent in the cottage at Alwent Mill were a joy.. The cottage was really clean, tastefully furnished and thoughtfully equipped - but it was the spacious, rural setting of the cottage that we particularly enjoyed. Our visits in the area included the stunning Raby Castle nearby, Durham and Newcastle. The owners of the cottage, who lived next door, we're welcoming but unobtrusive. Thank you to them and to you, Sykes Cottages, for having such a cottage on your books. We hope very much to stay there again.

It is a super cottage set in glorious suroundings.. If peace, quiet and tranquility are what you need, then this is the perfect place. There are many places of interest to visit as well as good food to eat........... if you do not wish to cook. We ate out every day. It is a perfect place to stay whatever your age and the owners were so helpful and kind...... and we are in our seventies. Sue and Harold

We spent a week in this lovely cottage. Libby (the owner) was on hand to recommend local places to visit and good eateries and generally ensure that we enjoyed our holiday. The cottage is clean and homely and is in most beautiful surroundings. We would thoroughly recommend and look forward to making a return visit next year.

We were looking for property for our week long break and decided on Co Durham where we found this cottage, near enough shops and places to visit but quiet and peaceful enough for a rest. This is it! We found the cottage had everything we needed including wifi and an honesty box for the use of the telephone in the cottage if we required to contact the outside world.. The area did not have great mobile coverage but when you want peace, then mobiles don't matter. There is a well looked after, 4 acre garden to enjoy in this peaceful area.
