  • "Lovely warm quiet flat and liked the welcome hamper and dog friendly approach (throw provided to protect the furniture)."

Close to everything although some things closed (the castle except on weekends) as we visited out of season. The only thing I’d change at the flat would be a bedside table not a chair for a more even surface and a freezer compartment in the fridge.

The property

This characterful stone cottage is tucked away into the village of Barnard Castle, not far from the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham, and close to the town's high street.

Quirky and inspiring, The Little Flat is a unique place to visit, designed to offer couples comfort and relaxation from morning through to evening.

Situated on the first floor via internal steps, arrive at the super king-size bedroom, a stylish set up overlooked by an A-frame beam, with the addition of a TV to compliment the formation.

There are some lovely finishing touches to the room, including matching cushions, a wardrobe and windows with a glimpse of fine detail.

The shower room is wonderfully tiled, vibrantly decorated in a blue overtone, creating a unique place to get ready ahead of your days out.

Return home to the soothing lounge after a fun-filled adventure, a calming snug, with two arm chairs, and a woodburner effect fire, to create a night away from it all.

There is a dining table perfect for you and your loved one, backed by a contemporary kitchen which houses light units, and everything you need to feel right at home.

Make the most of the books, games, and Amazon Firestick available, courtesy of the owners.

Outside, lies a shared patio area with furniture, and some more hidden gems are yet to be uncovered.

The Bowes Museum is well worth a visit, spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions.

Walking country is right on the doorstep, with woodland walks and cycle routes in the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways.

Also, safe dog walking area is only a 5 minute walk away.

The Witham arts centre, with an events programme of music, theatre, film and comedy is at the heart of the town’s wide range of cultural events.

12 miles away is Kynren the UK's most spectacular open air show, an epic tale of 2000 years of English history.

From events in the many village halls, to concerts in churches and an annual outdoor Shakespeare production by The Castle Players there’s lots of entertainment to enjoy.

A holiday experience not to be missed.
