  • "The White House is full of character and suited our large group perfectly - 8 of us including a child, who had the room at the top with the bath."

It was great to have en-suites for all bedrooms and a downstairs toilet. There is a useful utility room and the garden is lovely - we had good weather and so were able to make good use of it. We only had 3 cars, so parking was easy, though navigating the lane is quite tight! The property is slightly quirky - the taps in the kitchen go backwards, windows don't quite fit in some rooms, the oven was a bit temperamental and one of us got stuck in the downstairs toilet! The double beds were a little small and overall the beds were a bit hard. The house is well placed, between Bridport and West Bay. We did the market on the Saturday and had a lovely Sunday lunch at the West Bay hotel, both of which can be reached by walking. It is a lovely area and well worth a visit. We only did a weekend and wish we could have stayed a bit longer.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes it is a quirky house and we have ongoing refurbishments planned ! Whoops….. we will get that loo door sorted Property Owner

  • "Excellent facilities in a well equipped house."

Everything was clean and tidy. Very good position to walk into town or down to beach. Parking behind house was easy. The only slight downside was the toilets in some of the en suites which have a noisy composter type mechanism which could go off in the middle of the night!

Glad you enjoyed your stay. So sorry the Saniflo system was triggered spontaneously! We will get them looked at as they are not long ago ,newly installed. We hope this didn’t spoil your stay .B W . The owners Property Owner

  • "I organised an extended family gathering at the White House in West Bay, we were all delighted with the property, which was perfect for our needs."

The property is well located, has ample off-street parking and is very comfortable and well appointed. The 'suite' of social spaces on the ground floor (sitting room, kitchen, dining room) work really well in ensuring an inclusive atmosphere. The kitchen is really well equipped and acts as a great hub within the social space. The bedrooms (and the beds) are all equally comfortable and the garden also provides a great social space if the weather is good. In short, I cannot fault the White House and would certainly book it again for a similar occasion.

So glad you enjoyed your stay and managed to make the most of your family gathering despite the weather. BW, Chris and Katie Moore Property Owner

Only thing you need to be aware of ,and my friend left a note - heavy rain on last night and damp patch appeared in bedroom with flat roof ! Oh and a small niggle couldn't open bedroom windows . However this was a tiny inconvenience in a wonderfully equipped and beautiful house.

So glad you enjoyed your stay.. we have had the builders out and hopefully will be sorted. Also we will be looking at the windows as the are supposed to partly open. B W, Katie Property Owner

There was only a couple of minor things 1) The en-suite door in the bedroom at the top of the stairs doesn’t shut properly . 2) For health and safety it would be helpful to have keys at the front door and the back door .

Thank you for your comments. We will take a look at the en-suite door. We hope you enjoyed your stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

It was perfect for our group of friends/family! Our only suggestion was that it needs a new toaster, current one old and does not work properly (lots of burnt toast!).And it would have been lovely to have had a bbq although we appreciate cleaning them is quite a chore!

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

  • "What a brilliant space each bedroom en-suite which enabled our multi generational family to have some privacy, comfortable beds and plentiful pillows."

Fabulous kitchen with everything we needed to cook meals and a great dishwasher, the utility room has a washer and dryer which we used a couple of times. The dining space with large table and chairs plus two armchairs is light and airy and we spent most of our time in here in the evenings playing Cluedo and cards . which we loved !! The lounge area has lots of leather seating where we watched a couple of films . It only has a tiny window so a bit dark during the day but fine at night . Outside is a large and lovely garden with furniture which we made use of on warm evenings and our dog had open access as its secure which he loved. Parking was easy and we never encountered another car on the lane for the two weeks so no reversing required. I think some new bigger towels would enhance the bedrooms but they were perfectly serviceable. The house is equidistant from Bridport and West Bay about a 20 minute walk in either direction lots of independent shops in town a great market and cafes to choose from , everywhere is dog friendly. West Bay has the charm of an old fashioned sea side with the addition of some dramatic rocks this is the Jurassic coast after all ! There are some great little restaurants we particularly liked Rachel’s mussels and fish and chips great food & service. There is a Morrisons and a Lidl within a few minutes. Our hosts left us a welcome pack full of local treats, tea, coffee, biscuits, milk in the fridge which was appreciated after our long drive down from Lancashire . We had a great holiday in the White House .

So glad you enjoyed your time despite some rainy weather. We love the area and house and great you made the best of both. Property Owner

  • "This is a perfect house for a family group."

We were 7 adults and a baby. We did need to provide our own travel cot but this was not a problem. The conservatory eating area is ideal and faces the setting sun. The garden is sheltered and safely enclosed by a lovely old wall. Perfect for dogs and children with a suntrap one end for early morning sun and a terrace with a swing hammock at the other end next to the house for an evening meal. We had one plumbing emergency that was dealt with rapidly and efficiently by Lyme Bay Holidays and we were able to carry on unaffected so full marks to the holiday company. The only downside is that the road in front of the property is noisy and narrow. It takes about 20 minutes to walk along the narrow pavement to reach West Bay which has lots of restaurants, pubs and cafes. Likewise there is a 10 minute walk beside noisy traffic before reaching the outskirts of Bridport. This is a lovely Georgian town, full of interesting eclectic pubs, shops and eateries. I'd be very happy to return.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes Lyme bay holidays management are very swift to attend and resolve any problems. Glad you enjoyed your stay and holiday. Property Owner

Perfect travelling directions and unlocking instructions. Despite a couple of plumbing issues that were promptly sorted it didn’t deter from the holiday. Lovely surroundings and everything easily accessible for both walking and driving. We will be back xx

Spotlessly clean and welcoming. A walled garden with a large choice of seating to end your day relaxing. Being a group of ladies (of a certain age) loved having our own en-suite bedroom. The entrance to the rear parking we missed but then realised it is next to property 102, if that helps future holiday visitors. Totally recommend this property .

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the White House which we found to be very comfortable and welcoming."

The minor reasons for giving the property 4 stars instead of 5 are as follows: 1) The television picture is very poor being dark and blue tinted in parts. We were unable to improve the picture using the television's settings and we would suggest that it is due for replacement. Additionally, only free to air and non-HD channels were available. 2) The central heating went on and off at strange times but we were unable to correct this because there was no manual for the boiler. The thermostat is however centrally placed and easily operated. 3) We would suggest that the description of the car parking space is updated to reflect the very narrow nature of access and egress plus suggest a maximum of 3 rather than 4 parking spaces given the nature of the turning space. 4) The refuse and recycling instructions were not clear, especially in relation to what could be recycled and which bin to put this in (both bins were the same colour with a separate box for glass). The above are minor points and we would happily return to the Whitehouse for a future stay.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes it seems the television screen had gone… sorry! Now replaced by a bigger better one! Also someone had altered the timer on the heating. This has now been rectified. Recycling is an issue as it is commercial waste and it is expected that most recycling is done after collection. A nuisance we agree. New neighbors have moved in with bigger cars! I will get this changed. Thanks again for the useful feedback. Property Owner

However, the gutters are clearly blocked above the conservatory roof and it dtipps constantly sounding like people's being thrown. My parents hardly slept the first night due to this. The maintenance man came and put a sheet on the roof which did reduce the noise.

So sorry this was your experience. We needed a cherry picker to clear, this has now been done together with clearing the chimneys of seagull nests. Hopefully all now sorted. Property Owner

It was our second visit having been to the White House in July 2020. The property is generally excellent. We only had three very small niggles: 1) no replacement toilet rolls 2) no replacement bags for rubbish or recycling 3) no towel for the downstairs toilet Generally we would rate the White House very highly and may very well be back in 2024!

Lots of communal space, and a big kitchen and garden for the children. It is more “tired” than the pictures suggest especially the bathrooms and some bedrooms but a very comfortable, well equipped, well located property and we would happily return!

  • "The property is in a position close to all the amenities in the area."

The stair gate and highchair were not present on arrival, but this was rectified very quickly. The property has a quirky layout, which suited us fine and allowed the children to explore. There were one or two little niggles which should really have been sorted pre-season, but didn't detract from our holiday. The one problem that did surprise me was the cleanliness of one of the beds and the highchair. The bed had a collection of hair and other dirt on the side and underneath the mattress (photos can be supplied), which took some time to clean. Overall we had an enjoyable holiday and would recommend Lyme Bay Holidays to friends.
