  • "Very well equipped cottage and comfortable beds."

For rainy days there was a stock of board games and dvds and given we came with children that was a good idea. We went out exploring a lot there is so much to do on the doorstep and Lyme Regis and west bay are just beautiful areas. it would be helpful to those coming on long drive for possible takeaways to be listed although this wasn’t an issue really we just goggled and perhaps a welcome pack would be an added bonus. We did spot a couple of cobwebs but the general cleanliness was good and we would stay again. Lovely stay.

  • "Very well equipped and spacious."

Only one be toilet and it’s in the bathroom. The low door frame on is marked on entry but not on exit and my husband walked his head badly several times. It’s a real hazard that could be padded a little to avoid accidents.

Thank you for your comments. We do make it clear on the website that due to the age and style of the property the ceilings are uneven, and the owner does try to make guests aware with some signage within the property. We hope you enjoyed your stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "The house was very unclean and whilst it was a dog friendly place to stay, it felt as though it was a dog kennel."

There was dog hair everywhere and the house was extremely dusty and dirty, particularly the ground floor areas. The rugs and sofa throw/blankets/curtains on the sofas were not nice to walk on or sit on and the furniture has seen much better days. The kitchen did not feel clean and the worktops were very sticky. We bought various cleaning products after we had arrived to try and freshen up the house, but it was just a very short term measure. There was old random furniture and items that felt dirty, such as a dirty old footstool under a desk/table randomly in the corner. There were missing light fittings in the lounge area and the interior was very mismatching. The dust on the top of the lounge area fire was very thick and under the fire was extremely dirty and has clearly not been touched for a very long time. Under the large foot stool to the floor was filthy. The bathroom was the cleanest of the rooms, albeit the shower was dirty and dusty along the bottom skirt on the outside. The glass had also not been cleaned. The rim of the bath was also not clean. There was a dishwasher but with no dishwasher tablets. There were no bin liners to replace the one that was there. The ground floor was impacted by lots of damp and staining to the walls. I understand it is an older property however, this led to a damp smell in the house and also LOTS and LOTS of flies inside. The windows were dirty and have not been cleaned, and the whole condition of the property created an unwelcome feeling and poor experience.

We are sorry to hear that the property didn't meet with your expectations. In general, the photos represent the property accurately, and reflect the style of a country property, so we were surprised that the furnishings were described as shabby. However, we do recognise that some items are not to everybody’s taste. It was useful feedback on the throws, and also the cleaning. This was not as expected and we have spoken to our cleaner to ensure future standards are as high as they have been in the past. Thankyou for advising on the dishwasher tablets and bin liners - these should always be available, and we have made the housekeeper aware of this. As we are a local agency in Lyme we would always encourage guests in residence to contact us during their stay if they are unhappy or require our assistance. We would rather have the opportunity to put things right at the time so that guests can enjoy their holiday. We hope that you enjoyed exploring the local area, countryside and beaches. • "The property is well situated in a quiet location in a lovely village close to Bridport and West Bay."

However, I feel that there should be a clear warning on the property description of the low beams throughout the property. In particular there is a very low roof support at the top of the stairs that is painted black. I walked into it without noticing it which could be potentially dangerous in my opinion.

  • "Really spacious and well equipped house in a fabulous location."

The enclosed yard was great for us as we have a dog. We also had plenty of room for our large crate which was a bonus. Unfortunately parts of the house weren’t very clean on arrival, but Lyme Bay holidays did offer to send cleaners round (we didn’t accept the offer as didn’t want the intrusion) Beds were really comfortable although the double bed frame is very creaky. The local area is a lovely place for a holiday and I would highly recommend the Ilchester arms, especially the Sunday roast (very popular so you’d need to book!) Would definitely stay again.

It is more spacious than I anticipated, tastefully furnished, well appointed, in a very good state of repair & clean. Thick fluffy Christy towels & sonos speaker were a pleasant surprise.

  • "The Barn was delightful and provided everything for a great stay."

The only reason I haven’t given the top smiley face is due to the shower screen on the right hand side being broken which made it very difficult to get in it!,however the bath was fantastic. Also I didn’t sleep very well as the bed linen in the master bedroom was very itchy, maybe due to washing detergent which doesn’t agree with me?.This being said still had a great break and would recommend:

Thank you for your feedback and my sincere apologies for the shower screen. This has now been fixed! Any problems like this, please feel free to contact the agent and maintenance should be able to resolve quickly for you. I'm glad you found The Barn delightful and we hope to see you again!
