Sustonica, the first global sustainability standard for holiday lets.
Our aim is to create lasting holiday memories and we intend to do so both responsibly and sustainably.
To deliver on this we've set out a number of environmental and social pledges which help to focus our efforts;
you can read more about them in our Impact Report.
This is why we've partnered with Sustonica, the first global certification for holiday lets,
to support our owners to be more sustainable.
The Sustonica certification focuses on four key areas: energy conservation, water conservation,
waste reduction and promoting inclusiveness. They are on a mission to become the most widely
recognised sustainability standard for holiday rentals and a catalyst to reduce emissions of holiday
lets and influence guests to reduce their own household consumption too.
Properties that display the Sustonica badge have successfully passed the criteria,
which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards,
and their owner has made a commitment to look after our planet as well as you.
"Shelves in kitchen cupboards too high for us to access."
No steps provided.
No dish for use in microwave, just 2 lids.
Thankyou for your feedback, we are sorry that you experienced some difficulties during your stay.
There is a small fold up step in the property to reach the higher shelves in the kitchen cupboards, it is normally in the kitchen beside the fridge freezer but had been placed in the under stairs cupboard. This step is now back in the kitchen, there are also some higher steps in the under stairs cupboard if needed. We will update the welcome pack to highlight this.
All of the dishes and bowls are microwave safe, we have added some glass dishes with lids in the kitchen now as well.
Thanks for your comments.

"The mermaid was a lovely place to stay to visit Weymouth."
Everything was great both inside and out, the garden was fab when the sun was up to relax in. The mattress was a bit soft for me and the sofas could have had a higher back due to my dodgy back, but otherwise great. The welcome pack and milk was a really nice touch, thank you.
No need to drive as so much is close by and walkable or 'busable'.
The Greedy Seagull restaurant has great food, definitely worth a visit.

It was a shame the freezer hadn't been mended, we had to throw away some stuff that had thawed, came home to read a review from August saying there had been a problem with the freezer, which I assume hadn't been fixed.
Thank you for your feedback, we are very sorry that you experienced a problem with the freezer during your stay, as it is important to us that the guests staying at Mermaid House have the best experience and holiday break.
The property is managed by Dream Cottages/Sykes and their team is there to help/assist guests. You can raise any issues during your stay directly with them and they aim to resolve any issues swiftly. Their number is in the welcome pack and Dream Cottages' office is only 5 minutes walk away, at Brewers Quay.
We have requested that Dream Cottages investigate and to take action to resolve the issue.
Jan 2025 update - as part of our maintenance of the property we have now replaced the fridge freezer with a new appliance.

Very close to local amenities and a 2 minute walk to Newton’s cove which is great for a swim, only a short walk to the famous Sandy beach. The relaxing garden includes deck chairs and comfortable seating space while the attention to detail throughout the house is amazing - we loved the mermaid theme! "Mermaid house was absolutely stunning."
The facilities in the house were fantastic and met our needs. We were a party of 3 adults and 2 children, it never felt that we were on top of each other, the kitchen is simply amazing and has lots of equipment and utensils should you need them. The garden was an added bonus to the house, a fab little sun trap where we enjoyed our breakfasts and rested after days on the beach. Location was perfect for us, a short walk to Brewers Quay and a gentle stroll to the beach. Definitely a 10/10.

"The house was exactly as advertised and expected."
It was extremely clean and a great location with our 5 year old having no difficulty walking to the harbour and beach from here. No complaints but do be aware that (1) there's a washing machine but no drier, there is a washing line and pegs so no problem in the summer at least (2) the parking is not immediately outside and could be a bit tricky with a large car like our XC90 if the car park was full. As it was there were only ever 2 cars in the car park so it was no problem for us.

I dont have a bad word to say about this lovely house - it was just perfect, it was all brand new and so clean and beautifully decorated etc - on top of this the location was amazing, it was literally a 3 min walk to the harbour and then about 10 to the beach, there was also an amazing coastal walk just minutes from the house and in the evenings groups of people tended to swim in the rocky cove near the house - the boys were impressed by the TV which was a Smart TV btw with Netflix etc which was a nice surprise as we just like to watch movies in the evenings after having been out all day exploring - Durdle Dor was by far our favourite day out which was about 30mins from the house - it was just a perfect house, and we all slept so well - far better than at home as much quieter - Thank You

Brewers Quay is the old Victorian brewery situated at the heart of the harbour, in Weymouth, Dorset. Much of the grade II listed complex and surrounding brewery buildings date from the late 1800 early 1900’s and many have stones inlaid commemorating their construction year. This area is now a popular destination with many restaurants, café and bars, creating a vibrant culture, where you can relax with a drink and watch the world go by. Tucked away down the harbourside streets, you will find original Tudor harbour buildings, estimated to have been built in 1600 and well worth a visit, with a very interesting history to share. You will also find the Weymouth Museum, with some incredible exhibitions, and the harbour is also home to the lifting bridge, where you can watch the luxury yachts head out to sea, and then walk over the bridge to the town's winding streets of boutique shops and the seafront esplanade and beach. There is more to this seaside town than meets the eye; Brewers Quay is a much-loved holiday destination in Weymouth!
