This detached property is accessible via a footpath leading up from the roadside, and is composed of a kitchen/diner on the ground floor, a dual aspect lounge on the first floor with balcony access, a shower room and a beautiful picture window on the mezzanine floor, and a double bedroom with river and sea views and a twin bedroom and bathroom on the second floor.
Lorna Doone Cottage features a wood-burner in the living room, making it a cozy place to relax and unwind. The property is in an elevated position with access to nearby footpaths including the South West Coastal Path, the Coleridge Way, and the Two Moors Way. It is within easy walking distance of Lynmouth's restaurants, pubs, and shops, and also features a first-floor balcony with outdoor seating where guests can enjoy the view.
Parking is available with a permit for the car park located just 100 meters from the property. Towels, bed linen, and travel cot are provided, and electricity, heating, and wifi are included. Guests are welcome to arrive from 4 pm and are requested to depart by 9.30 am.
The area surrounding Lynmouth is a popular destination for ramblers and walkers with many scenic walking trails and footpaths to explore. There is a riverside walk along the wooded valley to Watersmeet, and other routes up to Lynton and the famous Valley of Rocks, and beyond, and onto the famous South West Coast Path. The nearby Exmoor National Park is another popular destination for walking and hiking. Guests can also enjoy sandy beaches at Ilfracombe and visit pretty Devon villages or tourist attractions. Please note that pets are not allowed, and smoking is strictly prohibited at the property.
Facilities Shallow steps to the entrance door. The ground floor comprises the kitchen with dining area. The kitchen is well-equipped with electric cooker and hob, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer. A variety of cookware, crockery, cutlery and glassware is provided.
Steep stairs lead up to the first floor where the living room is located, complete with wood-burner for cosy evenings in (initial supply of logs will be provided in the cooler months). The TV has Freeview, NowTv with a film option and there is also a DVD player and CD/iPod dock. Wi-fi is also available (fibre internet, speed is around 60 Mbps). The balcony off the living area is a delight, a wonderful spot for relaxing and soaking up the view. Outside seating is provided.
There is a shower room with toilet and hand basin on the mezzanine level.
Upstairs again to the second floor is where the two bedrooms are located, one double bed and one twin. There is also a bathroom with shower over the bath plus toilet and hand basin.
A hair dryer is provided for your convenience. A travel cot is available on request.
Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. Lorna Doone Cottage is fitted with central heating throughout which can be adjusted to suit your preferences. A basket of logs will be provided for you in the cooler months for the wood-burner, further logs can easily be purchased locally.
Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips.
A small amount of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits/cake are provided to ensure you can have a hot drink as soon as you arrive.
Cleaning materials such as washing up liquid will be present in the property. One or two toilet rolls will be provided.
Location Lynmouth is a very special place to visit; the spectacular coastline and deeply cut river valleys in this unique area provide wonderful opportunities for walking; the South West Coast Path, the Two Moors Way and the Coleridge Way are good examples. The famous Watersmeet House is not far up the valley road, a beautiful National Trust tea garden situated at the meeting of the East Lyn River and Hoar Oak Water. The famous Valley of Rocks is a short walk out of Lynton. If this isn't enough, sandy beaches can be found within a delightful scenic drive.
Lynmouth has a good choice of gift and art shops etc, pubs and restaurants all within a few minutes' walk. The twin village of Lynton is perched on the hill above Lynmouth, and is accessed via road, footpath or the famous funicular railway for food shopping. Lynton also has a range of tea shops, restaurants, a small cinema, as well as tennis and bowls facilities. The larger towns of Minehead and Barnstaple are approximately 17 and 20 miles away respectively, where you will find the larger supermarkets, high street banks, etc.
There are plenty of attractions nearby, such as the steam railway at Woody Bay, the National Trust's Arlington Court and Dunster Castle, Exmoor Zoological Park, Watermouth Castle and The Big Sheep. There are a number of riding stables if you choose to explore Exmoor on horseback, or wildlife safaris in a 4x4 to view and learn about this beautiful area. Boat trips are available in season to see the coastal seabirds and mammals or to visit the stunning Lundy Island.
