Get the bubbly chilling in the dedicated wine fridge and heat up the private hot tub for a blissful escape to the country. Part of a complex of lodges and cabins, this place is a few footsteps from shimmering Roadford Lake where an activity centre across the water means you can spend days sailing and canoeing to your heart’s content. Breathe in the fresh country air on nearby woodland walks and jaunts through the wildflower meadow. Returning to the warm glow of your lodge, settle into the plush sofas with a faux fire “crackling” in the centre. There are some nice touches in the full kitchen like the handful of cookbooks and (yes, it deserves a second mention) the wine cooler. Bask in the sunshine on the patio with meals outdoors before ending the day with a luxurious soak in the sunken hot tub overlooking the woodland and pond.
