We have just come back from Coles Cottage, a family of 2 adults and 2 young boys (4 & 7).. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful and very quirky cottage. The original part of the cottage has slightly slanting steps and landing, which we got used to quite quickly. The parking is easy and in a large area.
Sheila and David are the housekeepers and are both lovely and are easy to get hold of to help via email/phone or popping round with homemade scones!
There is a new double bed in the room downstairs and 3 sofas in the living room. The cottage is very well equipped, lots of utensils, mirrors, cleaning products etc, especially the kitchen which exceeded our expectations.
The 2 bathrooms/toilets are very useful and the shower is wonderful but if you are quite tall you wouldn't be able to stand up in it as there are many low ceiling areas.
The garden is pretty, large and private, the boys enjoyed an easter egg hunt there and the road was unexpectedly busy including a main bus route although it looks very quiet. We didn't mind the traffic as it drove straight past as it wasn't excessive and didn't distract us when we were enjoying sunny weather in the garden.
There are original windows, no double glazing and lots of old books, maps, games, paper and stationary etc as per the description. Lots to look at whilst relaxing.
The only things that would have made the stay even better would be a blind on the kitchen window as it gets very sunny and hot in there and a larger tv, it is only 21" or 24" and a separate dvd player as the one on the television is temperamental and sometimes doesn't work at all and cuts out the sound.
This is a minor thing though. There are no recyling bins for card/paper/plastic either, which would have been better if there was somewhere to put it but Sheila said to leave it in a bag and she would sort it out.
The cottage instructions are a bit out of date in some areas.
All in all a really beautiful cottage, the pictures don't do it justice and a lovely part of the country, close to Waitrose in Holsworthy and nearby Bude and Bideford., a recommended stay.
