In the south Devon section of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site with outstanding natural beauty, is Sidmouth, a posh coastal town. Here, the River Sid slashes through the Devon hills to meet the sea at Lyme Bay, producing a spotless pebbly beach that, at low tide, gives way to golden sands framed by striking red cliffs, making it a safe family beach with rockpools and safe swimming. Sidmouth's exquisite Esplanade, which may be strolled along while admiring the view of Beer Head, is flanked with chic Regency cream-and-white buildings. The Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth, which includes a planetarium, is one of the few observatories with open access. The Seaton tramway, Pecorama, with its award-winning miniature train and gardens, the Otter Estuary Nature Reserve, and other attractions may be found close to Sidmouth. Beaches are great for families, walkers will like the South West Coastal Path, and there are many of tea shops, cafés, and warm rural inns to unwind and refresh you at the end of the day.
