Great location - easy access onto Dartmoor, secluded location and lovely place to stay..

Beautiful location, road can be a bit scary if you are not used to country lanes ( we are), could do with a deep clean, cobwebs and dust.. ... however this did not put us off, it is in the middle of nowhere deep in the country so cobwebs are to be expected.if you want a quiet holiday away from civilisation break, then this is ideal. Fab star gazing at night.
Mrs Wakefield, July 2020

Stunning property in a fantastic location with easy access to moors.. The owners were attentive but not intrusive and we had everything we needed for a great weekend. We will definitely be returning to this little gem!

The lodge was perfect for our needs and for our two dogs.. Jeff and Ellen couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating and made us very welcome. They were on hand but not intrusive. It is a wonderful location for a peaceful break.

This is a lovely barn on a remote farm.. The track up to the farm is quite narrow, but is fine. The barn is nicely heated and both bathrooms are kept very clean. The sofas are nice but not very firm. Overall a very nice property, that I would recommend if you want a peaceful holiday.

We really enjoyed our stay at White Tor Farm despite the rain! It is beautifully furnished and very comfortable with everything provided for a comfortable stay. Mrs Thomas is lovely and she made us feel very welcome. Our dogs had a great time too and enjoyed exercising in one of the farm’s paddocks. We hope to return soon and definitely recommend it.

Our Autumn break was a huge success.. WhiteTor Farm is a wonderful place to stay situated on a hill off the beaten track, steeped in history with lots of animals within and on the outskirts. The accommodation was perfect for us with comfy beds, lots of hot water, light and airy. The owners were delightful, leaving us some organic milk, eggs from the farm and some homemade chocolate cookies. Our two small dogs had a good time too and settled quickly. The location was perfect for visiting the local area during the day - we went to Tavistock, Okehampton, Plymouth, Saltash over the Tamar and of course we ventured deep into the moors where we saw an abundance of cows, sheep and beautiful ponies and visited three delightful villages. Make sure that you take some provisions with you for day/night one as it is a 1.5hr round trip walking into Peter Tavy where there isn't a local store but there is a pub with great food. A perfect getaway treat for great relaxation.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location.. Everything was perfect and the welcome chocolate treats and duck eggs where an added bonus The owners were around but rarely saw them. The scenery the peaceful views all added to a fantastic break away. All amenities are available locally , we ended up going back to the cottage for the log fire , and chilling

This was our third visit to this property and again we were impressed with the high quality of the facilities and the hospitality of the owners.. Despite the almost relentless rain we had a great time walking on the moors with our dogs. We would definitely re-book.

This is a real get away from it all cottage.. It was completely quiet and relaxing - no traffic, no planes. Lovely. However, it is high up so when it's windy, it's windy!
Rev Ashton, June 2019
June 2019
The lodge is situated perfectly for walks from the house directly onto the moor, a dog walkers paradise.. It is situated in a quiet and remote location which we loved. Saying that Peter Tavy was a good walk away, in parts by the river. Tavistock has all the amenities you could wish for and just a short drive away. The lodge was clean and tidy, adequately equipped. The pub at Peter Tavy is a must! Jeff and Ellen were perfect hosts, not at all intrusive but there if needed. Please try their free range eggs and home produced sausages, outstanding. We’ve fallen in love with Dartmoor and would definitely return. Thank you.

We loved coming back after a day on the moors with the dogs and settling in on the sofa's in front of the wood burner.. Everything was so relaxing, the owners could not have been more helpful but also left us to ourselves. The beds were amazingly comfortable , the stars at night , the view of the moors that looked different every day, the peace and quiet . Fresh eggs, pigs and piglet, cows and horses . We all had such a good holiday. Thank you.

Absolutely immaculate cottage in a very isolated and quite location.. The cottage is worth every bump in the road. We couldn't have been more relaxed and our cocker spaniels also felt at home. The views are stunning and change with the weather. You can see the storms come in across the Moor. Worth a stay any time of year. Will be booking again for next year. Only one thing would be a dishwasher. Being on a septic tank this would also reduce water usage! This by no means takes anything away from the cottage. 5 stars any day, I'd give 10 if I could.
Miss Whatmough

Immaculate cottage in a stunning location, extremely dog friendly with enclosed garden too, walking immediately up onto the moors with two great pubs within easy walking distance too..

November 2018
From the second we walked into this wonderful cottage, we felt completely at home.. Warm cosy and welcoming. The ability to walk out of the cottage and straight onto Dartmoor was fantastic. And the local pubs at Peter Tavy, Mary Tavy and on the road into Tavistock were all dog friendly and served great food. Great holiday and we will be back again.
Mr Berridge
November 2018
Great escape.. Everything you could ask for. Shame we didn’t have time to explore more but will definitely want to revisit. Left alone to do what we wanted. Did meet Geoff who was very approachable and if there were any problems at any time to contact. This was a lovely cottage/barn convertion. Out the way from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Would recommend. Great for dog owners and people who love the peace and quiet.

Enclosed garden which isn't big gaps in fence which just needed some more rails. Dog in next cottage crapped on our lawn each morning. Plus not allowed to let dogs out unattended BUT only way to get air into barn is via opening doors or tiny kitchen window. I suppose we had to sit there holding dogs! Ceiling fan on day and night to move air around. Creak creak then creak creak. Place is too big. It echoes you can't hear tv as it bounces noise around. It's also up on a four foot high bookcase some distance from sofas. Not comfortable nor cosy. Very good that owners leave phone numbers BUT there's no signal so that's useful . Plus they never seem to answer door consequently we had no heating as they worked the controls. We're asthmatic and avoid log burners. Overall this place was style over substance. We left after a few days it just wasn't a happy place. Hated the poor hens locked in a stable all the time. We were glad to get home to our free range poultry. Please someone tell the owners that Kune Kune pigs are not a rare breed.

We didn't meet the owners but there were welcome flowers, eggs and cookies for our arrival.. We had their mobile numbers etc so could contact if needed. They have a fabulous smallholding and especially loved the friendly pedigree pigs and one particular fluffy aloof chicken! Barn is superb, well designed and laid out. Large bathrooms and big soft towels.Well equipped and clean. I didn't feel I had to wash crockery etc before using as I have felt I've had to in the past (Not Sykes). Happy to return . The views are beautiful and especially at sunset. Pretty garden to sit out in too.

Such a beautifull and lovely cottage with spectacular vieuws and sunsets.. A nice and warm host on a lovely small farm. Not entirely suitable for our citydogs who were too much focust on the pigs and the loose chickens in and around the garden, but for those who love the farmlive it is an amazing place. The nearest pub is a great place for a lovely dinner or lunch and the nearest town is a beautifull city with everything you might need. Amazing countryside for long walks or trained bikers. One small thing missing, a comfortable seat in the garden, but proberbly we are the only ones who had such beautifull warm and sunny weather.

Just had a wonderfully relaxing week at Meader cottage.. I felt that the cottage was more spacious than the photos suggested. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly. Stunning views from the back overlooking the Tavy valley - showered listening to cuckoos and went to bed with the sound of owls. Less than 15 minutes into Tavistock and from there easy access to other parts of Dartmoor. Very comfortable cottage in a great spot .

Beautiful barn conversion, a long narrow drive up to the cottage but well worth it.. Fantastic to be able to walk onto the moors with the dogs and with 5 easily reached National Trust properties as well.

November 2017
The two couples who stayed at this address were welcomed to the property - flowers, fudge, fruit basket awaited us, the log fire burning brightly.. This was very well received as the journey had been fairly difficult with the amount of traffic and heavy rain all the way. One of our party, elderly, and having a stroke some years ago, collapsed during the morning in the downstairs bathroom. I ran to the property owner, and used his phone for a 999 call for an ambulance, the owner of the property was able to explain exactly how to get to the house, as it was difficult up a long rough lane. He then stayed with the patient talking trying to wake him, taking pulses and listening to breathing. He was superb staying almost 1.5 hrs until ambulance staff arrived taking over. Thankfully our friend was fine again by the afternoon, Mr and Mrs Thomas were friendly, and helpful, allowing us to take our two dogs into a field with less mud after the heavy rain. They adjusted the central heating almost immediately after asking for assistance with this. The property is very nice, beds very comfortable. Good book selection, and paperwork on local amenities. Yes we would consider a summer visit, to be in superb countryside and wonderful views, where our grandsons could help feed the resident pigs, horses and chickens. We know the area well, so for us no difficulty in driving up to the property, We also came home with home killed pork and beef which was on sale from the owners. Yes a very good property, with kindly owners where nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Carole Duckett,

The cottage is very isolated, away from villages and towns which is a perfect getaway. It was well-equipped and very light and airy. It gets all the afternoon and evening sun, with a full view of the sunset over the moors. The owners were really welcoming and friendly. There is a fab paddock to run the dog around before heading out for the day or in case you want to stay close by and just need some space for them. All in all: perfect, we wouldn't change a thing!

I will definitely be going to this cottage again. The position of the farm meant that although you were close to Tavistock, you were in a beautifully peaceful and rural setting. The accommodation would take some beating and was finished to a very high standard. Well done to all.

We very much liked our stay and found the location very good for visiting the North Cornwall and South Devon coasts which was our plan. The lodge is on the edge of Dartmoor and had we not been staying with non walking friends my wife and I would have really enjoyed walking on the moor straight from the door. We thought the lodge was excellent and are very likely to stay again. Both bathrooms are excellent.
