I’m back and so another fabulous holiday with the delightful Peter and Jackie.. After our previous holiday was cut short by the lockdown we were really looking forward to spending a week in Devon. Peter had obviously been busy during the lockdown with updates to the bathroom and the internet connectivity, and new furniture in the living room and bedroom. Scrupulously clean as always with a welcoming cream tea it was just what we needed to unwind and relax. The hot tub is a great plus point with glorious views over the valley. I can recommend sitting watch both sunrise and sunset from the tub. . Roll on next year when we will be back for another restful week.

We had an amazing stay at Barley Meadow with our dog.. The cottage was stunning and had everything we needed for a weeks stay. The hot tub is a lovey feature and a great way to unwind after a day out exploring the countryside! Peter and Jackie couldn’t have been more friendly and were excellent with their recommendations, especially for local pubs! This stay was our only holiday for this year which is a little different for us as we normally go abroad several times, however, this more than made up for it and we felt truly relaxed!

If you want an idyllic, rural setting then Barley Meadow ticks all the boxes.. Excellent location in the middle of Devon which can be used as a base for exploring the whole county. Wonderful, spacious cottage with a hot tub providing excellent views. The best bit is that the owners are just two doors away and are on hand as much or as little as you require. They are so welcoming and genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. We spent two weeks there and we could easily have spent another two there!

We had a lovely, relaxing stay at Barley Meadow.. Peter and Jackie were so welcoming and kept in touch with us during the stay so any requests were dealt with really quickly. The cottage is very well appointed and comfortable - truly a home-from-home. The hot tub was a real hit with the children (aged 13 and 10), the location is beautiful and very peaceful, ideally placed for exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding area. I can thoroughly recommend Barley Meadow and would like to return.

The accommodation is very spacious with a homely feel about the place that allows you to relax in style immediately.. Great location with easy access to Bude and Looe and Devon beaches. The view of the Valley from the Jacuzzi hot tub is just superb. The owners put us at ease straight away and the place was well stocked with provisions (bread, milk, eggs, and cream tea) for our arrival. I am certain we will be back again soon.

Just returned from an excellent birthday weekend with my dog and sister.. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. Everything was perfect, cream tea waiting for us on arrival, milk, full loaf of bread, butter, jams, cereals, biscuits, orange juice etc etc. Bed were extremely comfortable, with high quality bed linen and towels. Dog enjoyed the garden, we enjoyed the hot tub. Owners very friendly and welcoming. We will return for another holiday soon. Great location lots of walks and interesting places to visit. Very good wifi included in price. cannot fault a single thing!!

Beautiful spacious barn conversion on the edge of Dartmoor.. Comfortable, cozy and fully equipped for great home-from-home holiday, and great escape for a weekend break. Great communication and wonderful welcome from owners, Pete and Jackie, and the essential food supplies and cream tea waiting for us on arrival we’re appreciated. Highlight was the hot-tub outside, overlooking serene countryside, even in the wind and rain of February’s Storm Dennis. Thank you

Amazing cottage and amazing hosts.. .... such a beautiful setting and nothing was too much trouble for Jackie and peter!! The goodies and cream tea were a lovely touch, as were the robes for the spa (including an extra one left out for our visitor). Already planning on booking another week next year!

Everything about our holiday was great.. Communication with Peter was a pleasure. The cream tea on arrival was most welcoming along with the milk, eggs, bread, cereal, tea, coffee, biscuits....... The beds were very comfortable, nice selection of DVDs to use and good range of games to play. We made great use of the full dining room when friends visited us. And of course the hot tub was the greatest luxury of our stay. Always ready to use and so relaxing after a day trip to sink into the hot bubbles in the peaceful countryside. I would recommend this cottage without hesitation and we will be back for a second visit for sure!

You really need to give us a three fold smile icon to :~))) to let me do justice to Barley Meadow.. It was so much more than we ever expected and just like staying at a dear friends home.

September 2019
This cottage was in a fabulous location for exploring the area.. It is very well looked after and very clean. Everything we needed was supplied. Our dog absolutely loved the garden for playing in, while we had a relaxing soak in the hot tub taking in the beautiful scenery. Peter & Jackie are both very friendly and excellent hosts, nothing is too much trouble. We enjoyed it that much we have booked for next year.

The serene, peaceful, beautiful location was spectacular.. We could see ponies, sheep, rabbits, a weasel and birds, including a couple of Spotted Flycatchers from the hot tub, garden and kitchen window. Plenty of downstairs space, a downstairs loo, and comfortable sofas, spacious sitting room, separate dining room, kitchen table to eat at. All facilities one would want. Very welcoming hosts, including a welcome basket of comestibles and a cream tea on arrival! Within a hour of the coast and about 5 National Trust places, wildlife reserves, 15 mins from Okehampton and bit longer to Tavistock. Can see Dartmoor from the cottage too.

We were in Devon for my son's bile race and needed a place to stay for the weekend.. We chose this cottage based on price and location and really weren't expecting very much. The cottage was so much larger and comfortable than we expected, we really were blown away. An enormous lounge, separate dining room, very comfortable beds - all exceeded our expectations. All the little extras, such as toilet roll, washing up liquid, tea bags, shampoo - I could go on - are so much more than expected from a self catering cottage. and of course the hot-tub, scones on arrival. Room for improvement - the wardrobe in one of the single bedrooms wouldn't open because they hit the bed, and I dearly wanted deeper cereal bowls as they couldn't hold the amount of cereal my two active children eat. But these are minor details that didn't matter very much, and were clearly outweighed by all the positives. We have come home feeling we have been spoilt and I would definitely stay again if we come back to the Devon area.

We had such a lovey time at Barley Meadow.. ...So relaxing and peaceful and away from it all, but close enough to visit areas of interest..Even though the weather was rubbish, we still went out everyday to find a new place to visit and our favourite was driving over Bodmin Moor.

Beautifully furnished spacious cottage, very welcoming owners Peter and Jaquie who live next door.. Comes with own garden which was perfect for our dogs but our dogs are very small and managed to escape under gate. The owners have really thought of everything here - including jam, ketchups, cooking oil, cling film, hand wash, toilet rolls etc. The kitchen is well stocked with every utensil you could need. The washing machine and separate dryer were a great help as was the dishwasher. The beds were soo comfortable- now want new beds at home as these were soo nice. The hot tub was lovely and hot and could be used at any time as it was at a constant 37 degrees and you did not have to wait for it to heat up. The views are truly beautiful and it is so quiet and a real get away from everything location. The owners horses and sheep/chickens are at bottom of garden which my children enjoyed feeding and petting. The welcome pack of milk, bread, orange juice, cream tea and cereals was a great help. The only negative is the location - this is a very rural setting. There are two narrow unlit windy roads to this property. The first road is narrow for one car with lots of passing places, the second lane again approx 2 miles plus ( seems longer) is steep, extremely narrow and ? Any passing places. We would have to leave our day out by 4 pm to get back before dark as it was too stressful driving down these lanes in pitch dark. There are no local shops or pubs you can walk too. There is a garage approx 7 miles away but that is all. I did ring Sykes prior to booking this cottage as previously stayed in Devon at another remote cottage as didn’t want to be in a remote setting with narrow unlit country lanes and was assured this property was short distance from main road. There is a main road a short drive from left of property but this was closed whilst we were staying here and you still have to go down the narrow lane to exit the property. The sat nav will only recognise and bring you in via the long unlit narrow country lanes. I would recommend this property for a romantic getaway weekend/week with hot tub but if you like to explore and like going out in evening and don’t like narrow unlit country lanes this is it the property for you.

We had an excellent week at Barley Meadow.. The location is very rural and peaceful but within easy reach of the places one is likely to visit. The owners are extremely charming and helpful. The cottage itself is very well appointed , warm and very comfortable, and the welcome pack that the owners left ready for our arrival was probably the best we have experienced. The WIFI facilities are excellent returning high speeds which was a welcome surprise considering the rural location and was very helpful in planning outings for the following day(s). My two granddaughters who accompanied us made ample use of the hot tub throughout the week and very quickly made friends with the owners horses and "fat fred" the cat. In summary I would have no hesitation is recommending this cottage to anyone who wants a very enjoyable week. We always have high expectations when we book a cottage and on this occasion our expectations were more than fulfilled. If you plan to visit this part of Devon, book this cottage.

We had a fantastic stay at Barley Meadows.. Peter and Jackie provided us with absolutely everything we could possible need and more. The cottage was really spacious and immaculate. Dogs loved their own garden and great walks on nearby Dartmoor and also a few trips to beach at Bude. We will definitely be back again, it was the best cottage we have ever stayed at. Thanks so much Helen, Gill, Nix & Bobin

I would like firstly like to thank Peter for his navigation knowledge we had got lost trying to find the cottage.. This is the beauty of this cottages location the rest of the world can be left behind seating in the hot tub with that view that is the best wide screen television you wish you had as for the living room in the evening it's so comfy it's like being in your own favourite chair at home .

April 2018
The hosts Peter and Jackie were warm and welcoming and they are there for you as much or as little as you need.. The cottage has everything you need including a food hamper to get you going. The location makes you feel you have left the busy world behind you; which you have but shops, local pubs, historic sites and of course Dartmoor are a short drive away. After a day walking the Moor or Pony Riding across it you can come back to relax in the Jacuzzi which is always ready for you. Recommened if you want a comfortable quiet get away location close to beautiful Dartmoor.

Barley Meadow is in a magnificent setting, picturesque and very quiet! The owners did everything possible to make our stay perfect - they achieved it. The domesticated neighbours, chicken, sheep, horses, dogs,a cat and a turkey were well behaved and friendly! The wildlife made the stay even more enjoyable, we saw bats, owls, rabbits and a variety of garden birds. The place was spotlessly clean, had all we needed and was very comfortable. The views are spectacular and the 'welcome' of a Devon Cream tea was greatly appreciated. Book it!!!

Barley Meadow was one of the best self catering properties we have been to and we have spent many years using them.. The cottage was spacious, extremely well equipped with all the appliances clean and in good condition. The owners are pleasent nice people, unobtrusive but at hand if you want anything. There was a very nice welcome with a cream tea in the fridge and the heating on in case we felt cold. We would recommend Barley Cottage to anybody who likes everything there and quite a bit more on top.
