Appledore is a real gem and once visited you will want to return, watch the boats come and go, sample the locally landed seafood, or perhaps take a trip across to the neighbouring village of Instow either by car, or in season a small passenger ferry can be found on the quayside.

The Little White Town of Bideford, with its narrow streets, antique shops, and choice of eateries is worth a look. For those who really want to get away from day-to-day life, it is possible to take The Oldenburg from Bideford across to Lundy, a three-mile long island in the Bristol Channel, which is a haven for wildlife, including puffins and grey seals.
