This house is perfect for a trip to Castleton, not only is it close to the 7 pubs, has parking and an outdoor area in case of sudden summer, it is really cosy. We've just come back from 4 nights and were very comfortable. The house has a good sized fridge and freezer, loads of glassware, crockery, pans etc and lots of nice extra touches like Prosecco, scones, cream and jam as a welcome pack. It's very likely we'll be back.

Third time I have been to Talbot house, lovely house for a family or friends. Large kitchen and dining table. Stayed in all the pubs and most B&Bs in Castleton over the years, but Talbot house is great for location and size.... Will be back again in the future...

Very well equipped, clean, tidy, owner very accommodating - lovely welcome pack. Lots of fans provided as temperatures rose into mid 30s. Everything as per description - kitchen excellent, bedrooms very comfortable. Very short walks to all amenities and attractions in Castleton.

Bit loath to leave this review as would like to keep this lovely place a secret for only us! Everything about the property, location and helpful owners was just perfect. House was exactly as described, very clean, beautifully decorated with comfortable beds and living areas and close to everything in Castleton. Cass and Alan met us on our arrival and checked in that we were settling in ok without being intrusive. The lovely welcome pack they left was greatly appreciated. Highly recommended and we cannot wait to return.

Perfect location within walking distance to all Castleton has to offer.. Lovely walks from your doorstep. Talbot House is a wonderful, very spacious & comfortable property & we enjoyed the fresh bread & Prosecco left by Alan who was very welcoming. Barney, our black Labrador also had an amazing holiday as the majority of pubs, restaurants & cafes are dog friendly and it’s fair to say he got most of the attention. We will definitely return to Talbot House.

We eased lockdown with a stay in this wonderful property which was ideal for our group of six (plus midweek visitors!). As well as being ideally situated to wander into Castleton with its 7 pubs, brilliant bakery and coffee shops, there was a terrace at the back for alfresco meals and off road parking. Alan the owner welcomed us with warm homemade bread, fresh flowers, butter, posh biscuits, milk and Prosecco - and was full of advice on where to go and what to do, we really appreciated him living next door especially when we locked ourselves out by accident! It's a perfect base for a stay in the Peaks, whether you intend to climb Mam Tor, cycle round Ladybower or just wander through the fields to Hope and enjoy the scenery. All of which we did! Highly recommended.

It’s a beautiful house, amazing location & it has parking.. It wasn’t show on the listing do we weren’t sure but the parking was just at the back of the house so perfect for us with kids.

Lovely week away with family.. House spotlessly clean and comfortable. Owners who live next door and run a book a room service could not have been more helpful. situated in the beautiful village of Castleton, with all the local amenities at hand. Welcome pack with home made bread a lovely touch. Only down side we took our dog away with us, advertised as a garden but more of a small sitting out area. Not directly accessible from the house. This meant putting the dogs on a lead in order to get them outside to patio area. Having said that beautiful walks right on your doorstep. Home from home feel. Despite garden would book again.

Alan, the owner, was great! He went the extra mile to make our stay as good as it could be and the welcome pack (including fresh home baked bread) was much appreciated. The location on the edge of the village was easy to find and parking sufficient for at least three cars, which we need for our party. Talbot house is large, comfortable and nicely positioned with lovely views from the back patio garden. Castleton is an excellent centre for exploring the Peak District and there are several walks and places of interest nearby without the need for a car.

Booked for long weekend with friends to walk Jacobs Ladder, great experience.. We had three nights in Talbot house and was very impressed by this beautiful property. The standard of decoration and comfort was fabulous, super comfy beds...essential after a long day hiking! The welcome pack when we arrived was very generous and the owner who was most welcoming, allowed us to unload the cars even though we were 2 hours too early. Good sized kitchen with plenty of crockery & cutlery & glasses and a double oven made catering for 8 people much easier. If we needed to be critical, we felt more 'dishes' generally would have been useful, we used the cereal bowls for everything but generally it fitted the bill and everything worked! We were genuinely Impressed with Talbot house but this is feedback so the only critisism we felt was a bath would have been nice and the shower rooms were a bit 'bijou'. Castleton was fabulous and we experienced the delights of most pubs and enjoyed a lovely meal at the George. We definitely want to return to this beautiful place and wouldn't hesitate to stay at Talbot house again.

This was a lovely house - beautifully decorated with everything we needed .. The three bathrooms really helped as we were 8 adults sharing . Alan, the owner, greeted us and explained everything but then left us alone . So helpful and friendly!

We were a family of 6 adults and 2 toddlers, the younger sleeping in a cot provided.. The house was plenty large enough for us, well-equipped and perfectly located for touring and walking in this part of the Peak district. Parking 3 cars behind the house was slightly onerous but soon got used to it. The owner Alan was very approachable and helpful, the welcome pack was much appreciated. Castleton and nearby Hope are lovely small towns with ample pubs and restaurants as well as local shops for daily needs. We are happy to recommend the property.

Talbot House served us well for a week walking in the lovely Peak District.. The house was spacious, clean and well set up. Couple of upper floor windows would not open - probably due to fresh paint or H&S ? Overall we enjoyed the week and were satisfied with the friendly service & good property

Talbot House was very well equipped to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.. The kitchen equipment was extensive for occasions when we catered for ourselves, yet handily located for meals out in the village. The local bakery across the road was an added bonus, providing fresh bread, croissants and delicious pork pies. Our two dogs were well provided for and soon settled in.
Mr Cooke, June 2019
June 2019
Lovely comfortable spacious house, very well equipped.. Owner lives next door and is available if required albeit we found everything fine and didn’t need to seek him out. On arrival we found a tray comprising a loaf of bread, salty butter, cookies and Prosecco - a very welcoming gift. Thoughtfully they had also left a bottle of milk in the fridge and tea and coffee had been provided - everything you could need before a trip to the shops to stock up. There were lots of touches like that - an OS map on the wall to get acquainted with the area, board games in the cupboard, bowls and treats for the dog, blankets for the dog to lie on - to name but a few. Our dog is old and doesn’t take too kindly to change but he was made so welcome he settled quickly. Castleton is a lovely village with lots of nice eating places. We can recommend The Peak Hotel, The George, and Tilly’s TeaRoom, all of which are dog friendly (as are, apparently a number of others, but as we were out and about in other areas these were the ones we tried in Castleton). For provisions Pevrils Store & Bakery is a MUST. Their bread is delicious - we bought varying different loaves of bread every day (sometimes twice it was so delicious) and cakes, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Talbot House is a lovely base from which to explore the Peak District

Talbot House is a lovely place in the centre of the village, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay as well as a few very welcome goodies on arrival! Wouldn't hesistate to recommend

April 2019
This was a fabulous base for exploring the Peak District and offered us everything for which we could want.. Mr Baskerville was as accommodating as he possibly could be (especially considering our unexpected feline needs, and a blind husband when it came to looking for an iron!). The house was spotlessly clean, and the space caters for lounging, dining and after-dinner games. We all slept soundly ... so be sure to bring an alarm clock!

The Talbot House is an excellent holiday home.. It is perfectly situated in Castleton, near all the amenities. The house is spacious, very comfortable and has everything needed for a great stay. I highly recommend the property. This was our second visit and have already booked for next year.

There were 4 couples, and a young child, in our party, spanning 3 generations.. Plus our well behaved dogs. And we all had a fabulous time! The owners were extremely animal friendly. A bowl of water was already set down in the kitchen waiting for its first thirsty customer and there was a full jar of doggie treats provided! The rooms for the adults were so clean, cosy and attractive that we all slept well and enjoyed the lovely bathroom facilities. The downstairs loo was a bonus. The kitchen/diner was huge enough for us all to congregate in as meals were prepared. All the equipment we needed was there. We sat at the lovely big table, taking in the wonderful view. We didn't watch much tv, but it was in a wonderful, cosy lounge, big enough for us all. The situation is fabulous for a base to explore the town and surrounding countryside and has plenty of parking space. We met the owmer, Mr. Baskerville, who was so nice and helpful. We do hope the dogs didn't disturb him as they were a bit unsettled the first night, so we do apologise for any inconvenience. We definitely hope we get chance to visit again sometime. Thank you Sykes and Talbot House!

The cottage is fantastically situated with wonderful views and close proximity to the shops, public houses, fabulous walks and the most wonderful bakery which became a regular haunt.. In fact this holiday break became all about the cake! We did have one mishap whilst at the cottage but this was sorted efficiently and without any fuss which is a credit to both Sykes Cottages and to the owners of Talbot House, we couldn’t have asked for more, and for that we would just like to say “thank you!” The cottage itself was comfortable and well equipped, which contributed to feeling homely in a very short space of time and adding to the enjoyment of staying. We didn’t make use of the patio area due to the inclement weather but please be mindful that there is no direct access from the house - you need to go out the back/side door and then into the gated patio area - This won’t be a problem for most people but may be a consideration for families with small children or pets. Overall we had a lovely stay, with a wonderfully generous welcome pack, in a cottage that was well placed to meet the different needs and interests of all who were staying. Thank you!

This house was a lovely house to stop in. Very close to amenities and some lovely walks on your doorstep. We stayed with family for our 40th wedding anniversary. Its clean and well fitted out. Lovely views from most rooms. The owners were very helpful and couldnt do enough for us. We had fresh bread waiting for us and a bottle of fizz. The only thing i can critisize is if you have young children its not an ideal outside area for them them to run around in but this didnt affect us as our grandchildren were older. Would stop again without a doubt.

House perfect location in Castleton. Short walk into village and shops and Ye Olde Cheddar Cheese pub almost opposite where we had Sunday lunch with so much meat!. Lovely walk over fields and into Hope. Plenty of outdoor clothing shops and some lovely jewellery shops. Peak Caverns well worth a visit. The house itself is really nice. 4 good sized bedrooms and the shared 'Jack and Jill' didn't present a problem. We'll equipped kitchen / diner and good sized lounge. Nice views from kitchen. Only reason 4 stars is because there was a cold draft through skylight window in top floor bedroom.

I couldn't recommend this holiday home highly enough.. It is comfortable and spacious and the owner, Alan, could not do enough for us. He made us feel extremely welcome. And it is in a perfect location in Castleton, close to all the pubs and shops. We will be returning.

Talbot house is run by a very nice and helpful couple. A special thank you for the tip about the"secret", narrow road up and down the valley! Castleton itself has got many great attractions that kept our family with five children in the age 8-24 occupied a whole week. Walks in the mountains, a roadtrip around the valleys, a trip to Manchester, the castle, the caves and 6 genuine pubs with good selections of real ales!

My wife, Clumber Sam, Mongrel Meg and I stayed at Talbot House for 2 weeks in March 2017 and the property was as described, it was both welcoming and cosy. Alan the owner lives next door and he made us very welcome with his friendly manner, he called once to make sure we were settled in and that if we required anything we just had to let him know. Other than occasionally seeing him in passing we were left alone but knowing he was close at hand should anything have gone wrong was a bonus. We would highly recommend a stay at Talbot House. The house is ideally situated in the village and all amenities are within walking distance, these include six bar/ restaurants, cafes and shops. You can also walk to Speedwell Cavern, Peak Cavern and Peveril Castle which Clumber Sam has also reviewed. Thank You Alan for a wonderful stay.

Had a great week in Talbot House, helped by fantastic weather.. The house is very comfortable and warm. Alan, the host was next door and very friendly and helpful. The location is superb - right in the middle of Castleton so no need to use the car as you can do lots of walks from the front door. Including to several pubs! Lovely comfy sitting room and nice big kitchen with a large table for group meals. Excellent dishwasher but the house could probable benefit from a few more mugs. Not a criticism, just a suggestion. Lovely clean, soft white bedding and large towels. When we did use the car we went up to Ladybower reservoir which is about 6 miles away and there are several fantastic walks from the visitor centre. Great rental property. We will certainly book again.

Talbot house is modern and well equipped. It is in a good location in Castleton. It is within walking distance of the whole village which includes about one pub for every 20 people that live there, a small store, tea room, blue John gift shops and a fantastic bakery. The nearest supermarket is Morrissons in Chapel en le Frith, about 6 miles away. There is also a lovely Indian takeaway called the curry cabin about 1.5 miles away that delivers. We were greeted shortly after arriving by the owner Alan. He is extremely friendly and put himself at our disposal straight away. The house is over three floors as per the information write up with a fantastic kitchen, a cosy front room with large screen TV and wifi. There is parking front and back on a first come first served basis. Overall we found Talbot House excellent value for money, very clean, modern, decorated and furnished to a high standard and would consider returning if we Holidayed in the area again.
