Area The former quarry and lead mining village of Middleton is set on a prominent hillside above the nearby towns of Wirksworth and Cromford, just eight miles from the popular destination of Matlock. The village layout is composed of a long main street leading into nearby Wirksworth, which is home to a village shop and a good local pub. The surrounding countryside offers wonderful walking and cycling routes throughout the region, with the disused High Peak Railway line close by recently converted into a path known as the High Peak Cycle Trail. The nearby town of Matlock provides a good range of shops and pubs, whilst the many National Trust properties and museums throughout the area are not to be missed.
Region The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

The cottage was beautiful and had everything you could ask for.. The owner is so relaxed, friendly and helpful and was especially welcoming of our dogs. The pub next door is very friendly and worth a visit. Lovely area with some stunning walks. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely break at Pickle Cottage, it was cosy and warm.. Well equipped kitchen and nice spacious living space. It is in a great location if you want peace and quiet. The locals are very friendly and we were invited out on the village walk as we emerged from the cottage one Sunday morning, we had an instant new set of friends! The bus service is excellent for a remote location and good valley for money if you are still of a fare paying age! We would love to return to the area some time, it’s taken a piece of my heart!

Excellent cosy cottage that suited all our needs.. Walks from the doorstep and all the facilities we needed at the cottage.
It was fantastic that our dog was warmly welcomed by our host which allowed us to relax and enjoy the space.
There’s a pub next door with lovely ales but does not do food so we needed to drive out or cook in for eats.

Absolutely lovely cottage; we felt very comfortable here.. The main living area was small and cosy but still fit all 8 of us in. The bedrooms were a good size and everywhere was spotless. We would definitely stay again.

Once we had got used to the (very), noisy stairs, it was a very comfortable cottage - well placed for exploring.. The only two slight issues were the lack of suitable cooking equipment for the microwave, and the dim mirror lighting in the bathrooms (difficult to shave in your own shadow).

We could not fault the inside of the cottage or the helpfulness of the owner, However there was no reason why vehicles, especially the owner's huge van, were parked up against the cottage, taking over the frontage.. Also our bedrooms overlooked the pub courtyard, so we were aware of chatter ( and dog barking ! ) well into the night.........
The saving grace was the nearby public garden where we could sit and enjoy the sunshine and beautiful countryside views.

The only problem was parking.. Sometimes the parking area of the pub was packed and it was difficult to unload baggage and pushchairs.

The location was perfect for our needs, cycling, walking and socialising in lovely pubs! The locals were so friendly and helpful and we were made to feel welcome by the cottage owners and all the people we met in the village. The cottage kitchen is more than adequate to facilitate cooking on an evening of which we did and if that is too much trouble then many eating establishments are not too far away .
We had a brilliant time.

A lovely cottage and great location. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay! The real bonus was in the little touches, friendliness and the quality of the accommodation that, for us, made the difference. A great area for walking, sightseeing and just relaxing. The pub was excellent and was particularly enjoyed by the real ale drinkers of our family! Many, many thanks.

A comfortable cottage finished to high standard and very well equipped, especially the kitchen. We were given a great welcome by the owners who run the adjacent pub which must rate as one of the friendliest in the country! Extremely dog friendly they even provided dog towels! Well located in attractive village with lots of great local walks for all levels, bike hire and trails, water sports in next valley and easy access to rest of the Dales.
