Loose Hill Lea is ideally located for enjoying the very best area of The Peak District being only a few miles from both Hope and Castleton. The house itself is situated in a very peaceful location at the end of a private road in the delightful hamlet of Shatton. The property is extremely well equipped, in particular, the kitchen where there is everything you need for self catering. Any instructions you need are readily to hand and couldn’t be clearer - in fact the best we have seen when renting other properties. The owner was very helpful when we contacted him. We used the CH first thing in the morning and during some evenings and it is not only efficient but also heats up the house exceptionally quickly. We love this area and will have no hesitation in re-booking Loose Hill Lea on our next visit. Highly recommended!

Nice house in quiet hamlet.. Shatton is a short drive from Castleton, Hope and Sheffield. The house was very clean and thought had been given to ensuring it was Covid safe.

There was a lack of communication on your part.. I tried to contact you several times beforehand via email but no one responded so I had to call in the end. The cottage itself was nice but there were a couple of things I need to mention. There was no cafetiere to make fresh coffee. There was a note to say that several surplus kitchen equipment had been removed due to Covid but I consider a cafetiere an essential piece of kitchen equipment. The condition of the baby cot was quite bad, we were unable to put it up properly as some the bars were bent and there was no mattress to speak of, it was just a thin layer of foam. The kitchen and bathroom were clean but there were quite a few cobwebs all around the cottage.

We had a lovely week at Loose Hill Lea.. Three adults and two children. The house was super clean and tidy. There are walks starting from the door. Plenty of places to go out for breakfast and dinner. Be aware that the curtains are a little thin, so children wake v early. At home we have blackout lining. Otherwise, highly recommended.

This cottage is spacious and has brand new modern bathrooms and kitchen.. It’s immaculately clean and very well equipped. The photos on the website do not do it justice! The setting is ideal. At the end of a small private road so no passing traffic. Lovely walks from the door, great views from these walks. Very quiet yet only a minute away from the main road between Hathersage and Castleton. Highly recommended.

Really lovely cottage with all you need.. Was clean and tidy and they had plenty of advice around about local things. The mattresses needed replacing though and were very uncomfortable, you could feel the springs digging into your side. A better mattress would have made this a perfect property.

Loose Hill Lea is a spacious, comfortable semi-detached house.. It was exceptionally clean when we arrived and it had everything that we needed for a stay of 2.5 weeks while we were moving house. The owner was easy to contact and was very helpful and flexible when we had some difficulties associated with our house move. The house is very well located for a quiet, peaceful holiday. There are some very beautiful walks direct from the house - along the banks of the Derwent, up the old Railway line to Ladybower Dam and Loose Hill, up the track to Bamford Edge and Offerton Moor. The local garage has a mini-mart (10 minute walk) with a reasonable range of food including fresh bread and pastries. There is bike hire from the garden centre (5 minutes walk). All in all an excellent spot for a holiday.

This property was clean and had every thing we needed supplied, the house was in an excellent spot for visiting the area, within a couple of miles from the Peak cavern, Speedwell Cavern, and Castleton with its castle and quaint shops, Lady Bower Dam was close and Chatsworth, Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock were within a short drive all this in some of the most beautiful scenery in the country..

Not having used Sykes Cottages before, and having a bad experience with another agent in the past, we were perhaps a little anxious when we arrived - but we needn't have worried.. The house was very clean and tidy, it had everything that we could need and plenty more besides, it is light and airy and a perfect base in the Peak District. The positioning is ideal for the Hope Valley with so much to see, so close together. Stannage Edge, Mam Tor and Winnats Pass are a must for walkers and there is a very pleasant stroll from the house, alongside the river and over to Hathersage.

Loose Hill Lea was so comfortable, spacious and well-equipped. It was in a beautiful location, very quiet and with some nice walks directly from the cottage. It felt like a real 'home' rather than a holiday cottage which is so important when travelling as a family with small children.

The cottage and everything in it and was very clean and well kept. The beds were very comfortable, again with quality sheets and duvets. The towels supplied were soft and fluffy. The cottage is situated in a very nice quiet private road in a lovely hamlet, but not remote, and in an ideal position to enjoy the northern area of the Peak District.

We booked to stay here for a family weekend at the end of February 2015. There were 6 adults and one small baby (4 months). The cottage was well located, in a hamlet but at the end of the road with plenty of parking and easily accessible from both the East Midlands and Manchester for our whole party. The views from the property are great. The accommodation itself is lovely - three lovely sized rooms (the master in particular was HUGE and plenty of room for a travelcot). We have stayed in lots of cottages in the area and the bedrooms were definately the nicest. Lovely crisp linen and great fluffy pillows. The open plan dining and living area was light and with plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen was well equipt. We had ordered a Tesco delivery which arrived no problems. From the point of view of staying with children...top marks. Everything was spotless and both a highchair and travelcot were provided. There were also some children's books provided in the lounge. The only thing that would have made a difference and would have raised this to the level of something listed on Baby Boltholes or similar (although at a fraction of the cost!) was a baby monitor.

This cottage was wonderful; clean, comfortable, spacious, well equipped, quiet, warm with lots of hot water (important for february). I would return again. We have stayed in numerous cottages in Derbyshire in last 10 years, and in our experience, a great house needs to be coupled with a great location to get the most from your holiday and this fits both criteria very well. It is located in a hamlet, on a private road, with parking for 3 cars on the drive, but is close to a main road, (10 mins walk from convenience. Store) although you wouldn't know it (it is very quiet) so easy access to Bamford, Bradwell, Hope, Hathersage, and Castleton. The wine and biscuits which welcomed us was a nice touch, and the owner was really helpful prior to arrival suggesting some great walks for us to enjoy with our children (age 10 and 7) such as stanage edge for the great Rock climbing and also the lovely walks right from the cottage doorstep. There was nothing I didn't like about it.

We have stayed in a number of cottages in this area and this is the best of all of them. Clean, extremely well equipped (especially the kitchen), very quiet but not far (walking distance) from pubs, cafes and great walks. Decent hikes start from the house as it is right next to a path taking you over to Brough and Castleton. Lovely bathroom, plush towels, heating whenever you want it (a rarity in our experience). Highly recommended, we will stay here again. For those of limited mobility, there is a bathroom on the ground floor and we found the stairs very good, as they were shallow and easy to climb. Bathroom tub was the only challenge, maybe the owners will put in a handle?

Loose Hill Lea is very well presented, and is in an ideal location to explore the area. The house is very clean and has a nice feel to it with a lovely meadow next door. The neighbours are very friendly also, and we will return at some point. I would have no hesitation in recommending to anybody. There is plenty to do and see nearby, as well as further afield. Walkers right through to families with small children will not be disappointed.

A very comfortable property, very well equipped and very suitable for our party of 5 adults. Well placed for walks on Mam Tor, Win Hill and days out to Chatsworth and Eyam. Also, near to a station so handy for those of our party arriving by public transport. I would thoroughly recommend this property. It was our first introduction to the Peak District and we hope to return.
