  • "The property is very cold and the week we stayed the weather was single figures."

The heating kept going off it felt like we didn’t have control of the heating as it never got to the temperature we set it at. There is a fire but no fuel is provided for you to use it. The front door has a gap in the bottom of it so it let the cold in and the cupboard under the window near the sofa lets a draft in so it’s cold when sat on the sofa. The sofa could do with updating as it’s really uncomfortable and there are lots of dirty marks on it. The cottage is very dark during the day. The bed is comfortable but the pillows are too soft and we didn’t sleep well all week. There’s no option for an extra pillow which would have been nice. The bedding had stains on it like black mascara marks. The bathroom was clean but had lots of little black hairs in the sink and on the window sill. The towels provided were hard like they had been dried outside or on an airer and didn’t smell fresh they could do with being put in a tumble dryer to make them soft. The shower mat in the bathroom should be grey but it had all pink stains on like bleach stains and could do with updating. If you have mobility issues this isn’t a cottage for you as the stairs are very steep and are dangerous. The location of the cottage itself is great and it’s in a quite area of the village. There’s a nice view of the peaks from the bedroom window and when you open the front door. The location has everything you need and we didn’t some nice walks. It was nice not to have to use the car for a week and the car park is a minutes walk from the cottage. Unfortunately we wouldn’t stay at the cottage again as it needs a lot of updating. Castleton itself is a beautiful location and we will be back, just at a different property.

Thanks for sharing your feedback, it is disappointing you choose not to contact us or Sykes when you were at the cottage as we would have endeavoured to resolve your concerns. Be assured there is no remote control of the heating system it is controlled only by the guests, we have had it checked and found to be working fine. Whist your comments are opposite to our previous guests experiences we will review them and resolve any genuine issues. Property Owner
