Situated on the owner's working sheep and cattle farm, close to the village of Winster, is this charming semi-detached barn conversion. Skilfully renovated, this property offers many period features such as beautiful old cruck beams, and combines them with modern facilities to create a holiday home of real character and style. The property is well situated to take advantage of local amenities such as those within the towns of Bakewell, Matlock and Ashbourne.

Accomodation Details

Area
Situated within the Peak District National Park is the conservation village of Winster - an extremely pretty place with a charming 17th Century market house at its centre. With a variety of other imposing 18th Century houses within the settlement - nearly all of which are three-storeys high - this is an incredibly elegant town. Just off this stylish main street, however, are a number of endearing little alleyways known locally as 'ginnels', which provide the village with a very charming atmosphere. Most famous for its Morris dancers, June Wakes festivities and its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, this is a fascinating place to visit to enjoy a number of past traditions. There is a well-stocked grocers within the village as well as a post office and gift shop and two good pubs which serve food and local beers.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Don't be fooled by the outside garden area that overlooks the fields. This area can only be accessed from the inside of the cottage via the single bedroom through a patio door so you have to go upstairs to it or it can be accessed via the dodgy stone steps at the outside side of the cottage so if you are fancying a BBQ or eating outside you have to lug everything upstairs to patio area. Bit of a pain if you forget something and have to go back downstairs to get it !!! Also because of the patio door the single bedroom does not have an opening window so no ventilation at all. OK you could leave the patio door open but I wouldn't think this was safe for a child to be in it. None of this is mentioned in the write up of the cottage. Extremely remote and roads are not passable for 2 cars in many places so have to reverse so can pass.

We spent the weekend at Aunt Jane's for a family wedding. To start with, the location and views are beautiful. The cottage was lovely and clean, and so well equipped - even tea, coffee and biscuits were waiting for us in the kitchen. The owner stopped in and we had a nice chat, and she was on hand for any questions we had. My son was thrilled with the toys and games provided. Great wifi service as there is no phone service - however I liked having time away from my phone. We hope to return when the animals are there and I will definitely recommend

For quiet relaxation the cottage was sited perfectly on a working farm .... For quiet relaxation the cottage was sited perfectly on a working farm Jill and Mick were always on hand if there were any problems but generally left us to enjoy the area The cottage is sited where you can travel quite easily to various destinations within the Peak District so Matlock Ashbourne were easily reached within half an hour Ideal if you are a National Trust enthusiast or just want to chill out

The cottage was very clean and well equipped in a beautiful part of the Peak District.. It was in a very rural setting, but only a few minutes away by car to lots of places of interest. The owners were friendly and welcoming and I would not hesitate in recommending this cottage to those seeking a peaceful and comfortable getaway. The welcome gift was much appreciated too, thank you Jill.

I stayed at Aunt Janes over the Christmas period last year so I knew what to expect, the only thing that would help is a new mattress in the main bedroom, the present one is on its last legs, and you can't get a good nights sleep because of that.. Every thing else was fine.

Aldwark near Cromford in the Peak District. Found cottage easily followed the instructions from the owners. Converted barn, clean, comfortable, and very well equipped. Jill and Mike friendly and helpful and the welcome tea, coffee and biscuits were very much appreciated. No Mobile phone signal for EE but my friend had signal for he company. Very good WiFi signal. Cottage situated within easy reach of of Chatsworth House, Abraham Heights, Cromford Canal, Crichton tram Village, Bakewell (very busy on Monday market Day) several Shopping outlets and some lovely tea rooms and craft Centres. Lots to do and see, we will be back to see more. Great place to stay.

An excellent base to visit many of the attractions of this part of the peak District.. We visited Bolsover Castle, lots of heritage industrial sites in and around Cromford and Matlock - Lumsdale Valley, Cromford Canal; Tissington, Monsal Trail and High Top, the fantastic High Peak Bookshop and cafe, Fenny Bentley Coach and Horses, Hurdlow Royal Oak, Wirksworth "Mistral", Buxton and the Museum plus the shops at Ashbourne. All a bit cultural and with some costs involved but walking along the many tracks and lanes to find the various archaeological sites was free, the weather fantastic, and the countryside looked pristine - great for anyone with interests in drawing, painting or photography - I was very happy on these outings! The cottage was not too easy to find at Aldwark but was comfortable, and had everything we needed including wifi (better than at home), and the little terrace at the back was a good place to eat!

Fabulous cottage, the best equipped I have ever rented. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Located in a very quiet hamlet, but only ten minutes from Matlock Bath, great for all the local attractions. Would recommend totally. Be prepared, though, very poor phone signal and intermittent wifi if you can't live without that sort of thing!

Liked the owners, the view, the place, just everything. We had the best holiday ever, which the owners made even more special by letting our four year old help feed the cattle. I cannot tell you how happy this made her. What super lovely people.

I almost don't want to say how good 'Aunt Jane's' was in case it gets booked out and we can't stay there again when we want to! We stay at two or three (reasonably priced) cottages a year on our travels, and this was up there with the best. A lovely welcome by the hosts, Jill and Mike, set the tone, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The cottage was very clean and neat, the kitchen well supplied, and a 'welcome pack' of coffee, tea and biscuits was a nice touch. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of storage for our clothes. The bathroom had a very efficient shower over a nice deep bath. Whilst there we visit both the Ecclesbourne Valley and Peak Rail heritage railways and can recommend them too. Well placed to visit the wonderful Derbyshire Dales I have no hesitation recommending this cottage. We will certainly be back!

We had a very warm reception from Jill, the owner, on the day we arrived. She also gave us a welcome pack of tea, coffee and biscuits. The kitchen was well-equiped and clean. The standard of cleanliness in the whole house was very good. The decor of the house was very pleasing and the beds were comfortable. The house is set in a peaceful location but is not too remote. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and an enjoyable holiday in this part of the country.

My Sister & I have just returned from 'Aunt Janes' Cottage. We had a 3 night stay, the snow fell heavily on the day we arrived but the cottage was so warm and cosy, the weather really didn't bother us. The cottage is in a perfect location for visiting nearby attractions and beautiful walking countryside. We were very pleasantly surprised at how clean, comfortable, cosy & well equipped the cottage is. We returned home very relaxed and would love to return again and reserve both properties for the rest of the family to join us.

The cottage was perfect. The location was 'off the beaten track' in a quiet hamlet yet not too far to drive to attractions such as Dovedale and Carsington Water. It was lovely to sit in the back garden with a wonderful view of the countryside. The owners were welcoming yet didn'tt intrude. Inside it was modern yet cosy, we didn't want to leave! Great value for money.

I found the property to be absolutely stunning and far and away exceeded my expectations in all ways. Everything was there including cafetiere and vegetable steamer - things that other landlords would not consider. The patio area was superb and the views stunning. Overall the property gets a ten out of ten. The owner of the property was extremely helpful but unobtrusive as well and nothing was too much trouble. I will without a doubt use this property again. It was a complete home from home (except for the cows!!).
