Area Buxton is home to many magnificent buildings and gardens, thanks to the patronage of the successive Dukes of Devonshire. The splendour that characterizes the buildings of the town was created in the 18th and 19th centuries including the semi-circular Crescent, Hall Bank, The Pavilion Gardens, The Square, The Great Stable and The Opera House. The history of the town goes back much further, to when the Romans came to Buxton, drawn by the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs. Every year, Buxton hosts the Festival of Music and Arts, and the Opera House offers a full programme of performances. The ruggedly beautiful peaks and gentle hills of the Peak District make this area a wonderful location for lovers of the great outdoors.
