  Everywhere was really clean, thank you for the scones and wine. The hot tub was really nice. There was everything we needed. The only thing I could report on was the toilet seat upstairs it bangs when you sit on it. Just loud in the night. Great place and location, safe garden for the dog. Thank you

• "Super property."

  Comfortable with all the necessary home from home bits. Well maintained hot tub and added extras to make a really memorable stay. Good location. Buxton has some fabulous restaurants - Lucianos and Santiago are extremely good. Only small area of improvement would be to secondary glaze the front bedroom as the traffic noise is a bit annoying (very early wake ups) but appreciate it was advertised.

• "The cottage is really lovely and comfortable."

  The place is one of the best equipped I have been to, the owners have thought of everything you could need - from the hairdryers in both rooms, extra light on the dressing table mirror to the shelf by the hot tub to put your drinks on! We enjoyed our stay. I did find the road noise a bit problematic in the mornings waking me up but this is highlighted in the cottage listing so I was expecting it. The walls are thin and neighbours can be heard too. Well located for going into Buxton and exploring the Peak District but if a quiet stay is what you seek it might not be for you. The only thing I would recommend to improve the facilities as such is to have some sockets put into (or moved so they’re accessible) in the second room upstairs. My friends had to plug their phones and devices in to charge on the landing as they couldn’t access sockets in that room which is not ideal. We would go back and have already recommended the cottage to family member we think would enjoy a stay there. Thanks for a lovely long weekend.

• "Fabulous stay at the cottage brilliant walks surrounding the area."

  Beautifully delicious scones on arrival and a bottle of wine so impressed! Hot tub was brilliant! The only thing I’d say but it’s personal preference that the mattress on the bed in master room is slightly uncomfortable and didn’t sleep well at times. Our doggies Teddy and shadow enjoyed their stay as well and loved their biscuits!

• "A beautifully decorated cottage with a lovely kitchen dining room and comfortable lounge."

  Plenty of room for myself and two children to relax. Two lovely bathrooms, the shower room was particularly nice. The hot tub in the garden was clean and a really lovely treat to enjoy on the chilly evenings. The owners were very accommodating, even allowing us to check out slightly later. A great little place, I highly recommend!

• "Excellent cottage and lovely stay."

  We were a bit snowed in but that didn't stop us enjoying Buxton and the local scenery. Our hosts were lovely and very generous. They provided us with a laid fire, wine and scones on our arrival which was a lovely touch. They even provided us with additional logs for the fire given the extreme weather we were experiencing. Any issues we had they were very attentive and helpful. The house itself was cosy nicely furnished with everything you'd need. It was well placed to travel into Buxton and the surrounding areas. The garden and hot tub also had everything you might need (albeit the garden was under a blanket of 6 inch snow so we can't comment too much on that!). The house was very warm and the log burner was brilliant at kicking out some heat to warm us up. We did find the living room TV to be a touch slow but it worked adequately. We did feel there needed to be a few more soft furnishings around, such as on the sofa, and some new pillows provided as they weren't the comfiest (we have been told by the owner that they plan to replace these asap so that was reassuring and good to know for future stays). All in all we had a fabulous stay and would absolutely recommend Shenton Cottage to others. The owners were lovely and helpful, the local area very beautiful and the cottage a nice, cosy place to stay. We definitely plan to return again.

  Super cozy and comfortable. A home away from home. Lovely log burner in living room and fabulous hot tub too, both great for relaxing. A nice walk to local town. Hosts were super helpful and there to answer any questions and had a nice welcome of fresh scones. Highly recommend and would go again.

• "We stayed for three nights as part of our honeymoon and didn't want to leave."

  We would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet home from home with the added bonus of a hot tub. The cottage has everything you need and the pub is a couple of doors away. We would also recommend day trip's to Blackwell and Matlock.

  Everything there you could possibly need, including games and things for the children to do. Never stayed in a holiday rental that had so many things thought of and provided - excellent. Hot tub was wonderful. Very peaceful and restful. Communication with owners was excellent too. And the cream tea was lovely on arrival!

• "Upon arriving, there is a ‘home’ feeling and the cottage doesn’t disappoint us."

  The living room is very comfortable with reclining sofa, big kitchen with skylight window and everything you need too. There is downstairs bathroom and a shower room upstairs. Two big bedroom and hot tub is a bonus. We had a wonderful stay and thank you very much for such a lovely time.

• "Fabulous cottage We keep returning to Shenton Cottage because it earns its 5 stars."

  It is always very clean, has comfortable beds, a cosy lounge with lovely log fire and a large, well-equipped kitchen. The owners have thought of everything you might need with lots of personal touches. The hot tub is very clean and well maintained. Shenton's location is also ideal for Buxton town and lots of walks in the surrounding Peak District. We have parked our car outside Shenton on every visit with no problem. Finally, the welcome scones, cream, jam and tea all laid out on arrival with complimentary bottle of vino is a great welcome.

• "We simply couldn't have asked for any more from this amazing stay at Shenton cottage!"

  Messaged before we arrived and owners got in touch with a speedy reply. Everything was spot on for us and the cottage was very family friendly. There was plastic plates, bowls and cups as well as a selection of adults and children's books, games and colouring books and pencils too. The cream tea, wine, water and sweets for the kids on arrival was a lovely touch. Everything that was provided was carefully thought about to provide guests with all that they needed for the week. Managed to get parked out the front of the cottage and it isn't too far from main Buxton. Lots of lovely shops and a fantastic park in Buxton. There's an Aldi and Morrisons not too far away for shopping. Well placed for lots of days out in Derbyshire. We did venture to Manchester and Bury too as we needed rainy day options for our stay. Would definitely recommend as it's the best cottage we've stayed in.

• "Absolutely stunning interior and spotlessly clean."

  Located high above Buxton, it has great views of countryside (back) and golf course (front). Lovely information about the history to the property in the Guest Book. Delicious tea-cream awaits you on arrival, all beautifully presented in a bone china tea-set. (We naughtily had ours for breakfast the following morning, and why not?!) A welcome bottle of wine too (we didn't have that for breakfast though!!!) The decor and furnishings are perfect, are the bathrooms. Icing on the cake, a well-maintianed hot-tub, set at a perfect temperature. We only stayed 3-nights but could've easily moved in!!! Jane was great too at communicating information as well as scone-baker. Highly recommend a stay at Shenton Cottage *****

• "Yet another wonderful week in Shenton Cottage."

  The weather was against us but because of the excellent location of Shenton we still had a lovely week which included trips to Bakewell, Chartwell House and the Monsal Trail. We also took the short walk into Buxton town centre for some lovely meals (Pizza Express, Simply Thai and St Moritz are our favourites). Back at the cottage, we had the relaxing hot-tub (all ready for you on arrival and for the duration of our stay) and the log-burner fire (again, already laid with more wood available) to help us relax outside or inside the cottage. We also agree that the beds are wonderful, very large with warm duvets. There are also lots of lovely little touches which makes this cottage so well equipped.   Jane and Steve are the perfect hosts; they have thought of everything that might contribute to a memorable and restful stay. Nothing is overlooked. You can take advantage of the hot tub the minute you arrive as it is already heated up for you. Similarly, if you fancy settling down in front of a snug fire courtesy of the wood-burning stove, it is already laid for your convenience; you simply need to light it. • "Great place to stay ."

  . everything we needed and more .. lovely scones and wine upon arrival .. only suggestion would be if more than one car stating next door that they didn’t park outside number 15 where we were staying as we ended up parking in lay-by down the road and the rain was quiet bad so when leaving / loading car to go out we got wetter than would have done if parked outside .. I know if it was me and had two cars I would respect the neighbours and one would have parked down the road

Beds were comfortable, and the layout of the house was excellent.We have two small dogs, who settled in well with a secure garden, and decent size kitchen. • "Another very relaxing week at Shenton."

  The cottage is well equipped and very clean. It has large, comfortable beds with very comfortable duvets; a great log fire (already laid for your arrival) in the lounge; a nice outside sitting area with a peaceful water feature which can be turned on or off as you choose; an excellent and very well maintained private hot tub with trees, screens and a large canopy-style roof. We had no problem parking outside the cottage all week and last but not least the extra little touches provided by Jane and Steve, like beginning our holiday with a wonderful cream tea on arrival, are what make Shenton so special for us. We cannot recommend Shenton Cottage and its hosts highly enough and look forward to returning in the near future.

• "Waited for 2 years for this cottage holiday, due to covid unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait or the money."

  The cottage was very clean and fairly well presented and well equipped, a little dated in areas but generally good. The owners left a cream tea for us on arrival and treats for my dogs which was lovely. However, that is where the good points end sadly. The 'enclosed ' garden was a very low wall around a tiny courtyard, so low at the bottom, even our Pomeranians could jump out! The hotub was overlooked by all the neighbouring gardens and not private at all, we didn't even attempt to use it, the owner says it's private once you are in but you still have to get in and out! The cottage is located next to a busy road which was very noisy all day and night, it kept us awake at night and was not mentioned in the property description which we feel is misleading. The beds were unbearably hard and uncomfortable but I appreciate this is a personal preference thing, just thought something in the middle would suit more people. The owners dog unfortunately barked and howled everytime they went out, the owner said they were moving soon, so might be ok for the future but didn't help my stay. The owners kept walking past the kitchen window to use the shed in the garden, move bins and collect a ball, we found this an unacceptable level of privacy and quite intrusive. Overall we were very disappointed and found the property nothing like it's description and quite misleading, we left and went home 3 days early as we found it not to be the relaxing, stress free holiday we were hoping for. I did complain to the owner who was very sorry but had an answer to everything I complained about, no offer of compensation for the 3 days. The most annoying part is having had the holiday cancelled twice due to covid, we were then charged an extra £91 for the same holiday as prices had gone up! I appreciate this is not anyone's fault, no one saw the pandemic coming but quite rude to expect guests to pay more for the same week, overall unhappy and out of pocket!

We have discussed your points at length with the owner, who has advised had they have known of your upset during your stay, they would have done all they could to assist. Beds are incredibly subjective, and one unfortunately doesn't always fit all. We advise that all dogs are supervised during a stay, however we will review the wording to ensure it's correct. As for going to the shed, the owner has confirmed that this is to get cleaning chemicals for checking the hot tub daily which you were informed of. We feel that the photographs and description show a full representation of the property, however we will of course take your comments on board. Lastly, the price increase following your change of dates would have been explained to you at the time of making the change, as this is what our Covid-19 policy offered at the time. • "We loved the cottage and it had everything you could need."

  We used the hot tub a couple of times which was a real treat. There were a few things that spoilt it for us but overall a fab place to stay. There was building work going on next door which started at 8am each morning so we weren't able to have a lie in. (Obviously not owner's fault) Pillows were very soft. I think they may have been feather pillows but they didn't give much support. Having said that the mattress itself was very firm and comfortable. Cottage is very well located for travelling in to the Peak District and we would recommend Bakewell if you're looking for somewhere to go.

  We have just spent a wonderful walking holiday in the Peak District and Shenton Cottage was ideal as our base. We highly recommend it. The cottage is very clean, comfortable and extremely well equipped. On arrival, there was a lovely cream tea awaiting us, the log burner was already laid in the very comfortable lounge and the hot tub was up and running. The beds are large and very comfortable. The hosts live next door and while they were very friendly and available if we needed local advice, we hardly saw them. The cottage garden has a very nice water feature and at the end of the day it is lovely looking across the fields and listening to the birdsong. The cottage is in a quiet road opposite Buxton golf course and it’s just a 15-minute walk to the centre of Buxton. We highly recommend the Simply Thai and St Moritz (Italian) restaurants but it’s advisable to book in advance for both. The No. 6 Café (opposite the Opera House) serves a delicious full English breakfast. The cottage is also about 15 minutes by car from some amazing scenic walks. We especially like the walks around the Fernilee and Errwood reservoirs in the Goyt Valley off the road to Whaley Bridge and the Monsal Trail to the east of Buxton. We enjoyed our stay so much that we booked our return holiday for next year on the same day we came home; we are really looking forward to rediscovering the delights of Shenton Cottage.

The owners live next door and were so helpful and went the extra mile to make our stay a memorable one, I can’t recommend them too highly. We had planned to do some walking in the Peak District during our stay but the weather put paid to most that, it was too hot !! The only complaint I have it that the week went over too quickly. Even Johnny our dog didn’t want to leave on the Friday morning and went into hiding, he’d enjoyed his stay so much. So I’d suggest anyone reading this books up as soon as they can, you won’t regret it.

• "A very warm welcome from the owners (just next door) including homemade scones on arrival."

  The property was immaculately clean including the outdoor area and hot tub. The owners were very friendly and helpful (we even had fresh strawberries from their allotment), advising of where to go and eat. We had our 2 year old daughter with us to which the owners put up stair gates for our arrival. I have to say that the cottage of perfect for our little one, offering a cot, highchair and the blinds in the bedrooms are black out which is vital for our daughter to sleep at the moment. Personal highlights were relaxing each evening in the hot tub and a glass of wine, log burner and mechanical reclining sofa in the living room for a nice film (smart TV so easy access to Netflix, Amazon prime etc). All rooms are very generous in size and comfort (all seems brand new) and the upstairs shower is very luxurious. The area is very peaceful as it overlooks a golf course and farm fields at the rear (our daughter loved seeing the cows in the field behind the garden). Easy walking distance to Buxton town centre (we did it with a pram in about 15 mins) and could always park directly outside the property. Thanks to the owners for a lovely stay. Would definitely recommend a stay for a relaxing trip to the Peaks.

  It had everything needed for a comfortable home from home experience. In a good location for walking in to the town centre or for driving to the surrounding villages, national park or pubs for lunches. Lots of lovely places to try for dog walks.

• "The cottage is lovely, located on a quiet street on the edge of town."

  Only a short walk will get you to the centre of town where there are a number of shops, restaurants and bars. There is a pub a few doors down and there are plenty of places to walk the dog nearby. cottage is very well equipped and furnished to a very high standard. Would definitely return.

• "Shenton cottage is a lovely home-from-home, beautifully furnished and with all mod cons."

  It was spotlessly clean and with a lovely welcome surprise. There were lots of thoughtful little extra things, which made it special. The kitchen is very well stocked with pots, pans, knives, etc. The girls loved the reclining sofa, seems that maybe on my shopping list now. The house was warm and comfortable, and we all very much enjoyed staying. The hot-tub was definitely a hit too. It was lovely that Jane & Steve are next door, and we enjoyed a little natter across the wall, and of course a fuss with Johnny. I would mention that there is some road noise in the front bedroom at night time, but the view across the golf course is very nice when you open the blinds. We had a great time in the lovely Peak District, made even better by having such a lovely home to go back to and use as our base. Thanks Jane!

• "The cottage was fab!"

  It has everything you need, and it is exceptionally clean, modern and well maintained. Jane and Steve the owners live next door with their family and Johnny the cockerpoi, and are so welcoming, helpful and friendly, seeing to your every need. We were welcomed with a lovely cream tea and as it was a minimoon Jane and Steve had gone to the trouble of welcoming us with gifts, how very thoughtful! There was a large helium balloon, bunting, a bottle of prosecco on ice and a gift bag containing gifts and a card . A really lovely and relaxing stay, we enjoyed the hot tub and made new friends, the dogs played happily, what's not to like!

• "We enjoyed a really enjoyable time at the cottage."

  After staying in a bunkhouse the previous couple of nights we relished in the luxurious surroundings & were really appreciative of the quaint touches that the hosts had laid on for us. From the lovely soft bath robes to some homemade rocky road snacks & chocolate, it was perfect. xx

• "We spent a fantastic weekend at Shenton cottage."

  the owners live next door and gave us a warm welcome on arrival. The cream tea and the doggy treats for my girls was a lovely suprise. the owners have thought of everything that you may need. shops are local, we went on some fabulous walks, only a 10 minute drive away, and spent nights relaxing in the hot tub. The information booklet was really helpful, had everything in there from nice restaurants to where the local vets are. Have already recommended to friends and will hopefully be going back in the future. thank you for a perfect stay
