September 2020
Very homey cottage with lovely comfy lounge area and welcoming feel.. Had thought it was open plan and was not - just a heads up for people if that is what you want. Great location near local pub and walks, plus the meadow right by for a quick walk at night with the dog. Plenty of easy parking.

Had a lovely time, ate in the local pub "Church Inn", great value menu and price, also allowed the dog in.. The mews was lovely and warm and cosy, the walks through the fields was ideal for me and the dog, neighbours where all very friendly and we all would revisit, of which many had been coming for years. Ideal location for touring around the lovely dales. My weather was lovely all week, so saw the dales through sunglasses. Great time, would go again.

Great showers.. Loved recliner chairs as we're both arthritic and needed to put out feet up at the end of the day! A dishwasher or a kitchen sink with drainer is my only suggestion for improvement

Really pleased with the whole experience and would definitely book again.. The listing was accurate, lots of information in the welcome pack, and a great amount of thought and care in Covid-19 management The cottage is lovely, the private meadows at the back ideal for dog walking and the village is full of really friendly people. Ideally located to visit Buxton, Bakewell and Chatsworth too

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage in a lovely part of the country.. It has been really well furnished with everything you need and the two ensuites are a particular perk when trying to get a family ready to go out in the morning. The owner was very kind with her pre-arrival information and quick to respond to some questions.

House was lovely, very clean and nice extras like bread, milk and biscuits.. Bedrooms were spacious and both en suite which was great. Small secure garden for the dog, and enclosed private paddock was perfect for training! Village was lovely and quiet. Would definitely stay again.

2 Primitive Mews was a comfortable, clean and well appointed cottage, with very comfortable beds and good showers there was nothing we could fault.. The welcome pack was a nice touch. The meadow to walk the dog in the morning was a real bonus especially as the weather was very changeable during our week. The church inn was a complete bonus with great food and friendly staff and locals. Just one tip take slippers the ground floor stone floors look lovely but are a bit chilly on the feet

Ideally located for quiet country style yet close to tourist spots and outdoor activity, including a great walk through Deep Dale straight from the cottage.. Just as described and the pub was a great, friendly bonus.

Discussion with Tracy about time of entry - despite being advertised as 3pm, initially told 5pm until I objected and advised would be ready at 3pm.. Well equipped, but tired looking and very disappointed with the garden area. Obviously not been touched since winter - piles of leaves under/around dirty children’s climbing frame, broken slab stones, dandelions along building and in pots containing dead shrubs, and less than clean artificial grass (particularly as it had obviously been used by dogs! Garden furniture needed some TLC. One of the bedroom windows had opaque glass and very difficult to open. Certainly not the best/best value cottage I have stayed in, but access to field for the dog very useful. I don’t want these comments published, but believe they should be fed back to owner.

Lovely cottage, well appointed with good outdoor space for my dog.. The paddock is brilliant, amd is a great spot to see the sunset. The property owner Tracey called before we arrived which was a lovely touch. Would defiantely recommend.

Each year we book a weekend/short break for our totally spoilt border collie. Ideally we look for something in a rural location, with a pub within walking distance and somewhere to give the dog a walk before heading out to the hills. Pleased to say this fir the bill perfectly. Not much to do in Chelmorton, but some great views of the surrounding countryside and a good pub. The cottage is clean, warm and comfortable and had the added bonus of having a separate paddock area where the dog could run to her hearts content. Good sized TV and selection of DVD's, although we weren't too bothered about watching TV as shattered from days out walking. The only suggestions i would make to the owners - get the website photos updated. Your double bedroom is sooo much nicer now and ditch the picture of the half empty cupboard showing the tea/coffee/bics add more pics of the paddock area much better selling point. Thoroughly enjoyed our break away, excellent value for money and would definitely return.

Had a great time in this comfy, cosy cottage.. The welcome pack is a lovely touch. We have stayed in No 1 previously, and must admit in both properties a few things could be upgraded. The oven is a bit hit and miss. But we did enjoy our stay and Chelmorton is a pretty Village with an excellent Pub serving really good good at reasonable prices and they have a quiz night and all are welcome.

Very good stay.. Be aware there is effectively no mobile phone signal here. Also the tv reception is limited to about 20 freeview channels however there is a large library of dvds. We eat twice at the local pub. Recommended really good food but do book. The pub is very small. There is good walking from the door. You can download some walks from the pub web site. Buxton is a short drive away. Pretty run down town. Not much there except the opera house. Bakewell and Castleton are reasonable close and good bases for walking

September 2018
We visited with our dog in September, we always try to find somewhere peaceful and with a pub in walking distance and this was perfect.. The cottage was warm cosy and very comfortable. Quirky blend of old and new furnishings but all clean and tidy which was more important. One of the major advantages was the huge paddock area where we could let the dog off to run free as for some reason she didn't like the astro turf!!!! Like a similar reviewer we had problems with cooker but nothing we couldn't get round. Bumped into the owner who was very helpful and made us very welcome. The only point I would make is to get the photos on the website updated, the main bedroom looks so much better now and the picture of a cupboard showing the welcome goodies was not really a selling point. I would have rather seen more pictures of the paddock area - a much better selling point. Overall a great time away, good value for money and would come back.

The cottage was in a very lovely position and the meadow was much appreciated for walking the dog .. Unfortunately the sofa was not very clean and neither was the cottage and a tea towel would of been useful .Such a shame as this let the cottage down .

Downstairs furniture old and worn not as good as primitive Croft cottages.. The location is good. Plenty of care parking and it’s very private. Dog walking facilities are excellent. Garden needs to be tidied lots of dead leaves and twigs over lawn area. The B/Q was rusty and a bit of a wreck. I don’t think the cottage deserve 4 ticks. We rented primative Croft last year which was a much better standard. ************************** Owner response ********************** We spoke with the guests at the time and no issues were raised during their stay which we would have endeavoured to resolve if had known. 2 Primitive Mews is country cottage like. Croft is angular modern leather sofas and are of different style. They are not old and run down. The first time a BBQ is used and it is second hand. The rear garden is laid in synthetic grass to give a long term smart appearance. We are sorry that you experienced these issues and take onboard your comments.

April 2018
We stayed at Primitive Mews for a long weekend as a family of four.. The location was perfect as a base for visiting both Buxton and Bakewell and there's loads to do within a short drive. The cottage itself is lovely. Well furnished and homely. Comfy beds and warm! Lots of nice touches like a welcome pack, information file about the local area and lots of DVDs for unwinding at night. We went to the local pub for a meal on the Saturday night. It was ok but nothing special. It's within an easy 10 minutes walk of the cottage though, otherwise it would be a drive into Buxton for alternatives. Would definitely recommend staying here and we would book again if returning to the area.

We like everything about this holiday. The cottage was located in a nice quite village with a very good pub 5 minutes walk away and serving excellent food. A welcome drink with the owners of the cottage on the Friday evening was very nice. And the welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee, bread and biscuits were nice also.

March 2014
We stayed at 2 and 3 Primitive Mews, these cottages are really well located, a short drive from Bakewell and Chatsworth. The off road parking, right by the door, was really handy. The interior is really comfortable in both properties, with great amenities, the huge TV was really handy in the evenings when only a DVD would do. Plus the showers were outstanding!
