  • "We (3 adults + 1 teenager + 2 dogs) had a really lovely time staying at Woodgate - the cottage was charming, warm, cosy and comfortable, and very well kitted out with everything we could possibly want - thanks to host Caroline for making it all so welcoming."

It’s in an excellent location with Buxton and Bakewell nearby, and a beautiful setting in a lovely, unspoilt, quiet village. The tiny garden at the back is safe for medium/large dogs, and there's a footpath right opposite for short walks, and longer walks just a few minutes' drive away. We would definitely recommend it! The only thing I would point out to future visitors is that the cottage is right on the street; the pavement runs alongside the windows, so passers-by can see straight in. And the cottage is also directly overlooked by the one across the lane too, so it's a bit of a goldfish bowl if the curtains are open (luckily for us, the property opposite was under renovation, so it was empty).

Thank you for the lovely feedback. I am so pleased that you had a great holiday and were comfortable and well catered for. I look forward to welcoming you back to Woodgate to continue your Peak District adventures. Property Owner

  • "Great property and lovely location - lots of walking trails from the village which the family enjoyed."

A heads up that there are two key boxes on the rear of the property - the correct one to use is the one on the left (immediately around the corner from the back door).

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am so glad you enjoyed our family cottage and all the walking possibilities. I hope to welcome you back to Woodgate in the future Property Owner

  • "The owner has thought of everything in the beautifully renovated cottage."

The wood burner kept the whole house toasty and warm easily. Excellent family bathroom with instant hot water. Everyone we met were so friendly and helpful. We absolutely loved our stay at woodgate. We will definately be back. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to write lovely feedback. I am so pleased that you were cosy in the cottage and enjoyed the woodburner. I find all the neighbours so kind and welcoming with lots of activities going on in the village from Pilates to Film Nights, so I am very pleased that you had the same experience. It would be wonderful if you chose to return to explore further as there is so much to see. Christmas at Chatsworth and the Chatsworth Christmas fair start next month, a real treat to visit. • "We had a great stay in this beautiful cottage."

The cottage is clean, nicely decorated and well-equipped with everything you might need and had plenty of space for our family of five. Taddington is a very pretty village with lots of walks and a good local pub. It is conveniently located, a short drive from Buxton and Bakewell, and close to many tourist attractions although that means there is some traffic noise from a nearby road. I would certainly recommend the cottage to friends and family.

Thank you for taking the time to write some lovely feedback. I am so pleased you had an enjoyable holiday at our family cottage. The walks are so plentiful and varied, I am glad you enjoyed them. I am pleased that the location and accessibility to the attractions worked well for your family. We hope you are able to return to the Peak District soon to further explore all that the area has to offer. Property Owner

  • "Whilst the property itself was well presented and tastefully furnished, there are some issues to feedback."

Firstly the grass had not been cut, it was at least 12” high, we therefore had to cut it before we could use the garden. The garden was not enclosed, as our 2 small dogs were able to get through the ornate fencing, we therefore had to create a barrier with bin bags, not ideal and not very relaxing. One bathroom, especially 1 toilet, for 2 families was a push; no shower mat and no bath mat provided; no proper bin; no recycling instructions - had to go on line to look these up; no stair gate to prevent dogs going upstairs; bike store locked so unable to be used; ‘on leaving’ cleaning instructions were unbelievable! Really do you expect guests to do that, yes leave it clean and tidy but not go to that extreme.

Thank you for your feedback and highlighting areas to improve upon. I am so sorry that the grass had not been cut for your arrival. This is not the standard I expect from the housekeeping company and I will be contacting them today to ensure this does not happen again. Apologies you had to cut the grass yourself, had I been aware of the issue I would have arranged immediate grass cutting for you. I shall be visiting the cottage myself to look in the welcome pack at the cleaning instructions. It should only require bins to be put out, dog faeces cleared from the garden and left over food removed from the fridge and cupboards. The cleaning company take care of the rest. Apologies if the pack says anything different, I will remedy this and ensure the recycling instructions are still contained within and clearly visible in the pack. Thank you for drawing these issues to my attention. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful 5 days at Woodgate."

The house is comfortable, well equipped and spotless. The location is great--there are a lot of nice hikes you can take right from the doorstep, and there is a friendly pub down the street to relax in afterwards. It's an easy drive to stately homes like Haddon Hall or Chatsworth House. Our hostess could not have been more welcoming and accommodating, even delivering a synthetic duvet to our door when I let her know that one of our party was allergic to feathers. We have great memories of this place, and we hope to go back again.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your time in the Peak District, there is so much to see and do, plus so many wonderful walks both long and short from the doorstep. I am so sorry that I wasn’t aware of the allergy, however it was a pleasure to meet you and I hope you will be able to return to continue your Peak District adventures in the near future. • "We had such a lovely week at Woodgate, Taddington."

An incredibly well furnished cottage with so many lovely finishing touches. The owner made such a kind gesture, because of the severe weather, we could stay over , rather than worry about rushing off in heavy snow. A lovely friendly pub just a couple of minutes walk away, also made the escape perfect. Lovely walks from the doorstep and stunning views. Thank you to both Sykes and the cottage owner for making our stay an absolute pleasure.

Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your time at Woodgate and that you were able to return home safely despite the weather. Property Owner

About the location

MILLER’S DALE

Buxton 5 miles.

This delightful little settlement is squeezed into the valley of the River Wye, amidst glorious walking country in the heart of the Peak District National Park. There is a village pub serving food. The village takes its name from the best known of the many beautiful dales accessible to walkers along this stretch of the Wye - others include Chee Dale, Water-cum-Jolly Dale and Monsal Dale. But Miller’s Dale itself is widely regarded as the most impressive and complete dale to visit with a barrage of natural obstacles such as side stepping hills, gaps, gorges and rock faces. A wonderful peaceful base in the heart of the Peak District National Park.
